I'm just curious but do genin come up with all their jutsus themselves or do jounin teachers teach them some? From the anime and manga it looks like most of the genin develop thier jutsus on their own or at least in naruto or sakura's case cuz kakashi hasnt taught them jack. What do you guys think?

Well, some jutsu like the Kage Bunshin was learned straight from a scroll.
Others like Chidori, was taught to Sasuke by Kakashi.
Naruto learned Rasengan from Jiraiya, who is a Sannin; and Sakura learns her medical jutsu from Tsunade, who is the current Hokage.
Some are learned by their own self, such as Neji teaching himself Kaiten, and others are learned differently.

Most ninjas come from a clan and that usually determines the jutsu the genin will learn/use so I guess the genin's family (clan) is the one who teaches them the jutsu. It seems the jounin sensei is there for guidance more than anything. Although the sensei doesn't teach their genin most jutsu, they do teach them things like chakra control and how to use their clan jutsu effectively in combat.

yea kakashi has taught them to mold chakra and more importantly learn strategic menuvers when in a team and teach the team to carry out a mission properly and when to retreat. i think they learn basic jitsus in academy school and more in depth jitsus in their families. it would also help if u learn from a private teacher like a sennin or ebisu LOL

in naruto case he could learn jutsu from him or jiraya maybe the kyubbi i suppose and like everyone was saying about the clan thing like sasuke and the sharigan.Didnt guy sensei teach

guy sensei taught primary lotus to rock lee
& kakashi taught sasuke the chidori
but naruto & sakura were taught by sennins
the accademy & kakashi did teach them the basics

but like stated above, jounins teach the genins the basics of real-world ninja-ing, and then get more advanced. for kakashi's team it started like this:

lesson one- intro to taijutsu, ninjutsu, genjutsu
lesson two- teamwork(this one was huge, since it continues throughout the series)
lesson three- chakra control

and basically jounins lead the genins through missions so they can also gain experiance through battle and see how they can be a leader by looking at the jounin role model

i see so jounin teachers just help genin realize thier potential. But like where do the genin learn their jutsus if their not part of a clan? Sorry to go back to the sanin talk but a guy like Jiraiya made all these defensive frog jutsus but did he learn them himself or did he have a teacher aside from sarutobi?

i think there are scrolls/books on various jutsus that students can learn.. and they learn on their own and get direction and help from their senseis.. and senseis if they think a student has the potential or need for a certain jutsu, they'll teach it to them.. afterall, they all belong to the same village and passing on of jutsus is something necessary to keep the ninja strength and knowledge going and keep the village powerful in case of an attack..

yeah jounin teachers teach genin jutsus but they learn others from clans, make them up and other shinobis as well , or if u r a uchiha u just copy them

well kakashi taught sasuke chidor cause sasuke was his favorite and yes jounins do train them and teach them teamwork and shit like that every teacher has a different teaching method and genins do get some help from parents and they train and learn to control their chakra the main purpose of a jounin isnt to teach them as many jutsos as thy can its to teach them wat it means to be a shinobi and teamwork and your suppose to train them so learnig jutsos does come into that

Naruto learned some basics of the ninja from Iruka, then Kakashi taught him how to mold chakra under his feet, then Naruto was taught to stand on water by the closet Pervert(Ebo somthing) and then he learned the Rasengan,Frog summon, etc from Jiraiya.

Hinata made up her own jutsu, the thousand hand thing.

I'm guessin some take lessons from various teachers like Naruto and some make up jutsu's on their own like Hinata.

in academy Chuunin like iruka teaches genins the basic justu like shadow clone and transform and others skills like throwing, chakra control and ninja rules. in order to graduate all genins should be able to perform successfully the basic jutsu.
Additional jutsu might be learned from scratch, their clans, their team jounins and if lucky from sannins.
