Dani the girl, is singing songs to me, beneath the marquee over lord
An obscure thought, buried in the grass. Curiously enough, in he form of a letter.
So many nights he had spent writing it. He, like any write, attempted to fully convey his feeling to his audience. Unfortunately, this was not always a simple task, and for this young man, it was a near impossible objective. Yet, every night, he tried. He tried for the person he loved. He tried to prove he could. He tried to prove he couldn't. It was as if he essence, his heart and his spirit were all trying to prove to his mind that the love he had for her would be returned. Her name was Dani. Maybe his mind was correct. Sure she would talk to him in class, she seemed nice enough, no, she seemed sincere enough. Even though he had talked to her through out the year, he knew they would never be together. Much of the time they spent talking was about her past relationships. Not surprisingly, Dani and her friends all dated the good looking, over achieving jocks. It only made sense, after all, they were nothing short of living angels. Perhaps what he liked most was the fact that, according to the neat and tidy high school stereo types, Dani would never date him. It had neared the end of the school year and he knew full well that he would not see her until the new school year. If he was to ask her out, this was his last chance. Yet, every-time he would see any of the jocks around school, he was reminded of his place. Could a single piece of papper really change any of this? Was it even worth it? He was not the first to attempt to step out side their social status, and he would not be the last. A single letter had not made a difference up to this point, why would his be any different? Still, he strived to complete the letter. Even if he was turned down, even if the whole school heard about it, at least he tried. He at least wanted to be able to say he tried. That was the one thing that would comfort him. As he wrote the word 'You smiling eyes are just a mirror for the...' He lost consciousness. It was understandable, after all, it was 4 am. As he woke up he realised how much time had passed, how much time he had wasted... Today way July 28th, and for this young man, it was the last chance he would have to tell her how he felt. He looked at his letter, wrote down a single word and packed it into his book bag. This would be the day he would prove all the stereo types wrong, this would be the day he proved some one like him could go out with a girl like her. After receiving his report card, he walked down the hall way, spotting Dani. But half way between him and her, he stopped. He loked at her, slowly tuned around and sulked out toward the exit. From there he did not know what to do, so he went where his feet took him. A warm wind blew it was perfect for his vagabond blood. When he eventually did stop it was in a park. It held so many of his memories. It only seemed fair. He bent down, and with his bare hands he dug a whole. As he took out the letter, looked at it, shed a tear, placed it in a the hole and filled it with dirt. As he stood up he had no where to go. The one and only thing that kept him warm at night he had given up. So he just wandered along the streets, he just walked away and in almost a fitting way, collided with 300 punds of rubber, steel and glass. Name a situation where you have had a moral or value, one that you held dear to you, that was wither taken or that you gave up. What is your opinion on the idea of social status and or high school stereo types. Do you believe a nerd could go out with a preppy popular girl? Why?Why not? |

Re: Dani the girl, is singing songs to me, beneath the marquee over lord
There are many kinds of nerds in this world... and I consider myself one of them... I'm really good at science and math... especially calculus. I love the subject. (that's because I'm home-schooled) But I'm popular too. Many teens that go to school thinks I'm not a nerd because I look cool. They know I'm good at calculus but they don't consider me a nerd, and that's because they know me better.
But even though I am home-schooled, I know what's happening inside a school campus. There are many types of groups or clubs or cliques in the student body... and many of them consider the nerds as the worst. That's because they're easy to bully, or they're wimpy... or something else... There are many kinds of nerds. There are nerds that are good in certain subjects. You can even consider an athlete a nerd. That's because he/she is good at his/her own sports. Still, we shouldn't put down these nerds... because they are an important member of the society especially the economy of a country. If there are no nerds in this world, then there would be no new technology that could improve the world. I believe a nerd could go out with a preppy popular girl. It just all depends on the girl if he goes out with him. It just all depends on the nerd trying to impress the girl. If the girl was impressed... she'd go out with him. But if she thinks about what the student body thinks... that she'd go out with a nerd... then, I think she's kind of wimpy after all. She lets others decide for her. Anyhow... that's just my opinion.

Status quo, and all that stuff that gives everyone their "position" on how popular they are, or whatever... It doesn't really matter to me.
If they really like eachother, then they can go out if they want to. People make it like such a big deal, "oh, cheeleaders and jocks have to go out together" blah blah blah, dis and dat. I really don't like it. But i don't really have to deal with it at my school, so... *shrugs*

Re: Dani the girl, is singing songs to me, beneath the marquee over lord
Where did you get that story? I like it. Anyways, I think stereotypes are one of the things so very wrong with this world. The "cool" kids don't understand that what they do now affects their and others' futures, and most of them will become nothing. Sometimes they drag the "nerds" down with them, because some kids have access to guns. It's stupid, and sadly, ferried through the generations by stupidity. I think that a nerd could go out with a popular girl, but it's highly unlikely. Only a girl who would go out with someone no matter what other people think really deserves to be popular.

I wrote it. I stole the name from a RHCP song and the name Dani is also from the RHCP. They use it to describe any girl who turned them down. |

Well, they have mentioned dani in a few of their songs. Dani california... well, dur 'By the way' has a lyric 'Dani the girl singin' songs to me beneath the marquee.." ' Californication' has a line 'Teenage bride with a baby in side, getting high off information' @shadow wolf) This is actually some what of a personal experience of mine. There is this girl I used to like, we would talk all the time in class, and she was a prep. But she was also amazingly nice, understanding and, believe it or not deep. |

Re: Dani the girl, is singing songs to me, beneath the marquee over lord
Mleh, I have no clue what my stereotype is. I don't hang with the jocks or nerds. (despite the fact that I know the most about computers in my grade---no, school) I mean, I can do tons of things that even the jocks can't do, although I'm geeky and play games/computer all the time. I mean, the preps like me and all, the jocks, mleh, they like me, but if I outdo them at something, they try to make me feel bad.
I believe that it is possible for a prep to go out with a nerd. Who cares? If I liked someone that much, I wouldn't care what my friends thought. Also, my friends wouldn't care, because they're what friends are. They won't judge you like that.

All of your answers are nice and moral. BUt the fact is, there are people who would not go out with a geek. They claim they would not, but as soon as the chance arises, they avoid it like the plague.
Not all people are like this, but I get the impression that you people do not think that people will not go out with some one based on their status in school. |

Re: Dani the girl, is singing songs to me, beneath the marquee over lord
I don't have a set opinion about stereotypes, if you can be friends... be friends. If you can't, don't push it and make yourself look like a fool in front of people you weren't meant to be with. Obviously the people who you think are 'preppy' or 'goth' etc, are just in the crowd even if they have a completely different personality. My friend dresses punky and she doesn't hang out with all the other punky girls in my school, her personality is too good for them. She thinks with her own brain . Think about the good things, for people who aren't sure where they should be in a school.
So yeah, I believe any two people in different "outfits" can clash together, as long as their personalities can. Anyway.... I love the RHCP.That song is going to be in my head forever now XD Last edited by Rath; 05-30-2006 at 03:31 PM. |

Re: Dani the girl, is singing songs to me, beneath the marquee over lord
My own moral value??
hmm...never trust someone too much. Every human being has a bad side. You can never trust a person totally, only you can trust yourself. "Adam was but human- this explains it all. He did not want the apple for the apple's sake. He only wanted because it was forbidden." neways, i think everybody has a bit of nerd, athelete, class clown etc. in them. Its just those few cliques you see at school or even work that decide to call those groups of friends, "nerds" or "game freaks". Usaully those cliques consist of "popular people". BS, popular people... i dont really care how many friends one person has, i pay attention to their personaility. Thats why I dont really believe in the popular group of kids. They're just another group of friends, no better or no worse than others. The guy in the story should of asked Dani out. Especially because summer was starting. If they went out during the school year they probably would've got more remarks. He must of felt intimated that all of her friends were dating jocks and she was going to follow the same routine. But hek, he could've tried. You're better off trying and failing than cowering and failing. Maybe Dani would've gone out with him, its all up to her and the type of personaility she has. But Dani would've never even talked to the guy if she believed Popular people should'nt date nerds. So yea, i think tha guy did have a chance after all. |
