why people put on useless posts its just wierd and the title for this post was supposed to be funny so dont get smart with me people this is supposed to be funny since we are gonna only talk about naruto manga it was to make people not wanna come here

on topic: sandaime's death was necessary for the progression of the storyline...otherwise there would be no need for tsunade or jiraiya to pop up

Anyway, if you meant Sandaime, then yes, it was a necessary way to progress the story, like someone before me have already posted...we'd see very little of jiraya and tsunade if Sandaime never died....also, his death affected Orochimaru as well, so in short, yes, it was necessary

If he had retired sooner he would still be alive, and in exchange someone else would be hokage, and had a better chance in beating or making Orochimaru retreat to his hide out like always. The Naruto world is said to have some people even stronger then those of the Legendary Sannin, but I've yet to have seen any who could really and ultimately pwn them. Kakashi said there's some deadly people out there who could really kick some ass at a very young age, so far I'm disappointed. Maybe Akatsukai will soon be promising.
