A lot of people seem to be having trouble with the revelation of Tobi's identity because they don't understand how he got so good in such a short period of time to fight Minato. However, I'm having trouble with the idea that he became a top level shinobi in the first place.

Prior to obtaining the battle with Konan, here's every jutsu we've seen him perform:

Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole Technique
Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique
Space–Time Migration
Summoning Technique: Kurama
Tailed Beast Extraction Technique

There is not a single offensive or defensive jutsu in that list which isn't supplementary or ranked above a C. Not even one. By comparison, Itachi had 3 B-rank and 1 A-rank jutsu and Sasuke has 3 B-rank, 4 A-rank, and 1 S-rank jutsu.

In all of his fights, he's not like he's been dragging out an impressive array of jutsu to whoop someone's ass. They've all been centered around the fact that his MS ability makes it impossible for anyone to hit him. It's the ultimate case of the saying, "The best defense makes a good offense." Being granted a such an ability through MS isn't an issue of skill, but luck.

No matter how good you are, any fighter is going to struggle against someone that can shift dimensions at will to avoid attacks. You can't hit what isn't there. The biggest improvement Obito made was bringing his base speed up to Minato's level.

is nothing special to have and that anyone with great defensive abilities can accomplish ?

Not quite. My guess it's that he was instructed by an old Madara directly, or, by Zetsu. Ifi remember, after Itachi's fight with Sasuke, Obito asked Zetsu if he recorded everything, and told him to show what he recorded, later. Maybe it's the same way: Zetsu it'sa creation of Madara, and maybe the bastard on his deathbed or something like that told Zetsu everything he knew. The Aloe Vera found Obito and teached him everything.

The most contradictory evidence for obito being tobi is the vast amount of knowledge that Tobi has of the uchiha, the sage, hashirama, uchiha madara, Mito, itachi, ect ect... And the fact that obito attacking to annihilate the leaf with the kyuubi would annihilate his master (Minato), best friend (kakashi) and love of his life (Rin)... Why would obito do that not even a year after his supposed death...

Although, all the info on the sage, madara, izuna, hashirama, ect ect... Could have been gained from madara himself after he died... Obito could of used his SG to get into madara's mind and learn everything about everything...
and obito could have done the same to itachi which is how he knew so much about him as well...
Or, if that is too much for a regular SG then the use of a Kotoamatsukami-like genjutsu to access memories of the enemy is what could have been used then....

And how come obito can use the special Uzumaki chakra chain jutsu...???

Don't forget that Zetsu can 'record' events. Tobi asked Zetsu if he recorded the Itachi - Sasuke encounter and he said yes. If Zetsu could record things and was in some way in touch with Madara's memories, he could easily educate someone regarding ninja history.
