About genjutsu

Watching the anime/fillers and reading the manga I was wondering something.

About the 3 most used (or claimed to be the most used) ninja arts: taijutsu ninjutsu and genjutsu, genjutsu seems to be the more subtle and deadly. Even if you don't agree with me you have to admit that genjutsu is pretty awesome, no hand seals (at least i never saw hand seals), heavy defenses won't work against genjutsu, if u are trapped in a genjutsu there is nothing much u can do unless you are able to hurt yourself, or use a Kai, i don't remember if there is another way to get free but however if your opponent is fast he can easily kill you while u are starting to get trapped, it seems very versatile too, and if you are somewhat able to free yourself the fight still isn't over. Kurenai showed she can literally disappear from sight,
itachi won but itachi is a better genjutsu user than kurenai.

My question is: why there are only a few genjutsu users in the manga? No one from the rookie nine-team guy-team suna ever uses genjutsu, sakura knows something about it but still she never used it. The only genjutsu users i remember are kurenai, itachi, tayuya and someone during fillers, orochimaru too showed he can use genjutsu but still he uses ninjutsu more.
There is another thing: we know lots of things about taijutsu and ninjutsu but genjutsu seems something hard to understand, i never read databooks, but during the anime/manga not much is explained about genjutsu and genjutsu's techniques. If it is worth to be mentioned in the character's scores why it is almost never used?

Well, that's because it's the most difficult to learn. In order to perform Genjutsu, you must be able to focus on the opponent's five senses to control the chakra that's flowing and connecting their cranial nerves and it's mandatory for the shinobi to have a very high intellect...those are the requirements. You have to remember that most people of Naruto's class and up the year up mainly concentrate on ninjutsu and taijutsu which means that even if they have the requirements,then they would more then likely fight the opponent with the jutsu type that they're most comfortable with and not focus too much on the opponents inner system which would take time.

a possible reason like nexus says maight be becaues its harder. ninjutsu and taijutsu are physical things and easier to learn. also genjutsu is not guaranteed to work since it depends on how mentally and physically strong a ninja is. so maybe cuz its a 50/50 deal, or in itachi's case it'll always work, but thats different.

probably because gentusu is the hardest to use. it requires extreme intelligence as jiraya stated. also it is aparently rare to find a person who is a genjutsu type shinobi only counting manga character itachi, sakura, kabuto (he uses a genjutsu called temple of nirvana to put everyone to sleep during the attack on konoha), the woman from the sound 4, and Kurenai. its also not the most visually apealing form of fighting. lets face it to the masses big explosions and bonecrushing hand to hand combat > mindtricks and being trapped by a tree or Tsukuyomi in terms of entertainment. also genjutsu doesnt really cause physical damage, its more of a keep u busy or inflict pain. in fact if u include the anime fillers the only genjutsu we've scene that can damage a person is Itachi's Tsukuyomi which can break a person's spirit and cause a mental overlode or that special genjustsu clan in konoha during that onefiller arc where Kurenai tried to quit.

You have a good point and don't forget to add Sasuke's name to that list.

it doesn't inflict damage, but if u are trapped you are dead basically cuz your enemy can kill you.
You are right kabuto too used a genjutsu.
However i think you are right the real reasone is because it's less entertaining maybe

oh really tell me a reason why he never does genjutsu nor uses it nor know how to he relis on taijutsu and ninjutsu. so ye sasuke doesnt belong on that list.

i serously cannot think of one single time when sasuke used genjutsu. mabey you thought since he was part of the uchiha clan and since itachi could do it so could sasuke... but even if he did he would suck at it caus he never ever ever uses it.

kurenai can but she can bearly use nin to tai cuz she lacks streth and normal chakra amounts so she needed to learn gen to be a ninja gen is hard but it is the least taxing for the user tai u get tired nin u use too much chakra but in gen u use opponents chakra against them this also uses chakra control so neji and hinata are suted for this but byakugan is for juken so they dont kurenai is weak but her chakra control and intellect have always been high

He used Genjutsu on Sai during their first encounter. Remember, Sai didn't have no feelings at the time, but when he looked into Sasuke eyes, Sasuke performed a Genjutsu that instilled tremendous fear into Sai and then he fell down. My references:

i just remebered that orochimaru used a genjustu agains sasuke and sakura during the 2nd test of the chunnin exam. it was when sasuke and sakura both had a vision of being shot in the head by kunai knives. got the wikipedia article right here

yes i know about sasuke, kabuto and orochimaru, but still they are not genjutsu users and still genjutsu is almost never used

genjustu inflicts damage deidara lost his hand because he trapped in kakashi's genjutsu.Genjustu if the most difficult for sure,some1 that works out like crazy(lee)can became good at taijutsu,ninjutsu on the other hand is difficult too but it has to do with the element nature of the person so some1 is bound from the start to became able to use at least 1 type of element nature ninjutsu.Genjustu is something that requires more than just talent(ninjutsu does),crazy concentration and high intelligence.Itachi's and all other shari. users have the bloodline limit to use the genjutsu.They can work out hard and become(with some talent)able to use.Other genjutsu have to start from zero this is why it is the most hard type,they are also very difficult to understand the way the work.

But genjutso won't work on high level battles. The hokage battle, not one has used genjutso. Two things: Difficult to execute and Wont work on experieced ninja's like the Sannin and Hokage.

It hasn't been used in a Hokage level battle yet! We are not done with Naruto so its not completely out of the question. The user would have to be more powerful than his opponent (in the area of genjutsu) in order for it to work. Remember the filler arc with that genjutsu girl and Kurenai (I keep forgetting that girls name). Kurenai is suppose to be Konoha's best user of genjutsu and that girl overpowered her. That's a fine example of what I am trying to explain.
