The problem wiht having so many of "those bands" is that the MDM genre is restricted because the ones that sound like MDM, but aren't MDM are put into Scandinavian Death Metal.

This is kinda hard for me, since I'm a huge fan of TSO. If I had to choose though... mweh. I'd say it's either Old City Bar or Who Is This Child, but damn, it's hard to choose. I pretty much like ALL of the Beethoven's Last Night record and 90% of their Christmas songs.

There is a big difference between being good and being original/having your own style. Of course I like some mainstream bands that sound pretty simplistic and shit, but I tend to only really like a band if I find something original in their music.
I have the most stretching interests in music, compared with other people - at least, according to some friends of mine. So I kinda know what I'm looking for in each genre that I listen to. Being original is one of those priorities.

...and yes, Therion have been on my 'want to see live' list for quite some time. I even have to skip a concert of The Album Leaf to see them perform! Lucky for me that TAL will play more shows here.

Scandinavian Death Metal...? .:big frown:.
What exactly qualifies as Scandinavian Death Metal? Isnt that just plain Death performed by Scandinavian bands? Harr.

A raw, mechanical, electric buzz, which many bands of this genre later tried to reproduce. Nevertheless, this sound was inspired by British deathgrind band Unseen Terror on their debut album Human Error.
that's scandinavian Death Metal, not really clear still

Re: Any Death/Doom Metal Fans

...for real? That sounds like one big joke to me. Entombed and Dismember are Scandinavian Death? Hmmm... I never heard of this genre and if I have to believe the description of Wiki, then I guess I'm better off not acknowledging that kind of style!

...but ok, thanks for the info.

P.S.
lol - "sound was inspired by DeathGrind" - that's just awesome!

Well even if the definition is right or wrong I have heard it in many other places before wiki. I think SD is MDM without Melody.

Same here I look for:

-Originality
-Technicality (I think thats a word lol)
-If they recycle or not (you know what mean)
-If they are mainstream or not (very minor, but I choose not to listen to Mainstream bands because then I premote mainstream bands. It is just something I protest against. I listen to few mainstream bands.

Re: Any Death/Doom Metal Fans

I think most people who are into this kind of music already know of these bands. Amon Amarth is considered to be a classic band. Same could be said about COF, even though that is not my own opinion.
Children of Bodom is only any good if you count all their covers. Those are the only songs I actually kinda enjoyed listening to.

Re: Any Death/Doom Metal Fans

Cradle of Filth does suck.............personally I am not a very big black metal fan. I tried listening to Marduk, which is a big black metal band, but I could not get into them. Also that Paradise Lost band is awesome. I got their symbol of Life album. Also Amon Amarth is good.
