Who listen to the Pillows? I've listened to a few of their songs and I have to say I love them. I see some people here listen to them, that's good. Also, I've heard a few songs from Ayumi, and I love them

I personally like Asian Kung-fu Genertation, Orange Range.... and a few others. Unfortunately for me, ALL my friends think that Japanese music is stupid, so I have to pretend to like their music.... (rap, rock....etc.) But I love japanese music above all. It's the coolest.

One paragraph:

Most American "anime fans" grow an extreme liking to the theme songs in animation shows, many times even memorizing the words to these songs. Of course, they have no idea what the words they're singing mean. Well, technically the words they're "singing" don't mean anything because they're butchering the pronounciation so badly. But, the more "advanced" anime fans -- I mean the ones who do more than just buy the soundtracks to these shows - actually delve into REAL Japanese music. But what do they delve into? Ayumi Hamasaki, Utada Hikaru, Hitomi, etc. What they basically find is female Japanese pop. And, so far, all of them make the same conclusion, the same deadhead idea. "Wow. Japanese pop music is so much better than American pop music." Uhm... no. Yes, American pop music sucks, but is it worse than Japanese pop music? Not at all. I could just ask "what is the difference? really?" Cuz to me, it all seems like the same R&B/techno/bubblegum pop influenced drivel. The only difference is that while Ayumi Hamasaki is whining in her high-pitched "I never wanted to be a singer, but now I'm the role model for all kogyaru culture" voice, Britney Speares is groaning in her "I want you to screw me now" voice. Well, undoubtably, from very little investigation, you can find that at least half of Japan's male and female solo acts can't actually sing. They were just picked because they look good. In fact, less Japanese pop artists write their own music than American pop artists. WHAT exactly is so much better about Japanese pop music than American pop music? The fact that some Japanese pop artists actually throw together a song for an animation while American pop artists don't?

Meh, I don't like alot of Japanese music.... I mean "Shinjitsu no uta" by D.a.I is oK BUT MEH.... I also like "Aura", it is in english though.

well yeh u got a point, but not all ppl are like that.. ur sorta stereotyping. i kno japan does not have the "best music" and i don't think american "music" is crap either.. all im sayin is that japanese songs are good (sum) and some ar bad. i mean r u sayin that just becoz someone is american he or she can not listen tothe song and truly appreciate it? call me strange, but sometime when i listen to music, i dont really hear the words, i hear the voice, the actually "music" and the emotion. (notthat im sayin lyrics aren't important) do u really have to kno the lyrics to actually appreciate a song? do u have to understand it? i mean if u disagree u could realise that someone could just easily get the lyrics and TRANSLATION.. (those things have actually tought me sum japanese as well XD but thats beside the point). and not every single "foreign" or "american" anime fan is into ayumi or hitomi or rie fu(they might not like her, but i do XD).. i mean there are ppl who listen to music like M-flo (which is quite good in my opinion) and Orange Range (which is also pretty good to me) , these aren't girl pop singers.. i could name a few more, but im hopin u get waht im saying here. that not all anime fans that delve into jap musik think its the best, and not all of them actually have to like it and that not all of them actually like ayumi or hitomi or watever, yeh not all of us understand what theyre singin, but do we have to?

wow everyone is rite huge essays here^^
@ corbenk: i agree with you, bt not so much in my case. The first jpop singer was Utada Hikaru, I didn't reli luv her, I didn't like any other singer either. bt when i heard ayumi's song, i startd luv jpop. i didn't like jpop because of anime, it was actually through ddr that i gained knowledge of AyumiHamasaki ~!

that reli dusn't work for me. You see, if i sing with I make sure that i have the lyrics with me, some tyms i even use the jap version to make sure that the ramji lyrics are all correct. And since i'm twese i can understand the kanji part, and that make everything partially understand able. And be sides, i'l never sing along unless i understand what it means(that's y i only sing along two of ayumi's songs), and the more i sing, in the end i catch the meaning of every word.

Besides it's a very entertaining way of learning japanese^^

Ayumi, boa and sowelu are really cool female singers. The only song ive heard from utada hikaru is hikari or the english version simple and clean from the kingdom hearts game which is a cool song, but she isnt my fav.

As for male bands or singers:

L'Arc En Ciel *they rox*
Orange range * too cool to be in school*
Typhoon24 * ya gotta love them in beck*
and more.......

to tell you the truth i listen to lots of japanese music, j-pop and j-rock

I did not write the paragraph, I took it from an essay on galvin chow's site(www.kindofcrap.com/efotaku).I did not mean to sterotype, I do not agree with it all either, When I sing japanese songs, I usually have a good Idea of wha tthey are singing..... But I only listen to japanese music for the music, it is so nice, the lyrics in most japanese songs suck in my opinion. But I find the actual music is beatuiful! I also find, that even though the lyrics are bad, the usually hold more meaning and (like ero said) more emotion.

Sorry if I offended anyone.
