Why is Mari a genius?

Mari isn't actually a genius because of lack of information about her family (by her academy teachers), but she is considered above standard genius level. She doesn't have a special power, but nonetheless managed to graduate as the top rookie of her academy class. She will fight anyone she has to to protect her comrades, and she has tried to become a perfect shinobi: being a weapon for her village. She tries hard, and though it doesn't seem like it, she really cares for other people deep inside too.

Brief History

It's kind of lengthy, so I'll just summarize it.
Mari's clan is massacred, Mari runs, Mari finds Uchiha clan where she stays for a month, Uchiha clan is massacred, Mari is an orphan again, Mari joins academy, Mari has friends, Mari is a Chuunin.

Here's the longer, more detailed version. (V)

Mari hailed from Sunagakure, where the well-known Umanosuke clan once lived. Mari was the youngest person in her clan, and was the peppiest, too. She would usually go out to spy on a neglected boy, to see if he ever wanted to play. (Gaara.) Sadly, though, she never got the courage, and when she did have the nerve to go up and ask him, he was always called and left.

Nonetheless, she was a happy person, and at age 5, she was ready to go into the academy. (I'm assuming that Suna people go into the academy one year less than Konoha nin.) Excited as she was, she went out to find some friends, but they were all busy, inside. She stopped by her grandmother's shop because she'd wanted to see her, where her grandmother gave her a bamboo flute. Mari now cherishes this as her most prized possession.

Alone, Mari stumbled across Gaara on the same evenig, and it seemed as if he didn't have anyone to play with either. Mari finally asked if he wanted to play, and the boy, surprised, accepted. After a long, fun day, Mari smelled smoke and noticed it was very dark. Her exact words to Gaara were, "I have to go now! I'm registering at the academy today, but don't worry. I'll play with you tomorrow!"

Mari ran home, but something was odd. It was hot. Fire? she'd thought to herself. She burst open, and saw her mother and father being killed in front of her. The assassins noticed her and tried to kill her too, but they only deeply cut her cheek, as someone had pulled her into a dark room, which was the Umanosuke hideout. A strange, young, familiar voice had told her to run far away from Suna. When Mari questioned his identity, he only replied, "When you return to Suna several years from now, notify the Kazekage." With that, Mari fled.

Soon enough, Mari ended up in a thick forest in Konoha, where she had passed out of fatigue and hunger. Two Uchiha boys found her while they were training, and they took her to the headquarters, where she soon woke up and was restored to a healthy state. She spent some time with the family, and grew a liking towards the youngest one, who was a year and a half older than her. For a month or so, she was almost part of the clan itself, but the older Uchiha brother, Itachi, had gone crazy and massacred every member of the clan, using the Mangekyou on Mari, who was knocked unconscious with the dreadful jutsu. It was like living the Umanosuke massacre again. She was sent to a hospital and stayed with some Jounin for a few days, then found a home around an apartment, where Sasuke and a blonde boy named Naruto, as well as two other kids stayed at.

Mari entered the academy with the Hokage's permission (only after a year after she was in Konoha; though several Jounin still rejected the proposal because she was a year younger than most of the to-be Genin there), and after graduating, found herself on a team with Hideako and Ryuu (yes, I changed their names). Hideako was originally her best friend after several unexpected encounters, but had never known Ryuu. However, soon enough, she grew an interesting love towards him, but unfortunately, he had died on a mission protecting Mari, his last words to her, "I love you."

After this mission, Mari was heavily injured, and even though her sensei and Hideako told her not to go to Ryuu's funeral because of her physical state, Mari went anyway. After the funeral, she met up with Konohamaru, the Hokage's grandson, and he immediately challenged her to see if she was really a ninja (because she was younger than him, she was a ninja, he wasn't a ninja, and she wasn't wearing her headband because she had just attended a funeral). Mari easily took him down, but experienced a very bad pain afterwards. It was there that Konohamaru announced that they were rivals.

The time she spent with Itachi around five or six years ago wasn't her last. After the Sandaime's funeral, Mari was running certain errands directed by Yuzuki when she came across a taller man who had purple nails and wore a hat with bells. Being a good ninja, she asked them who they were and demanded they leave the village at once. The one with the red ring pulled his hat off, and immediately, they both recognized each other. Before Mari could do anything, however, Itachi used the Mangekyou on her. Being a sucker for genjutsu, she passed out, again, and was later found by Aoba, who sent her to the hospital. Since she had been hit so severely, she was in the hospital for two months.

Mari is currently a high-level Chuunin as well as Hideako. She's one of the few members in her "grad group" who is not a Genin.

Special Relationships

Kagoshima Yuzuki: She is Mari's Jounin sensei, but to Mari, she's just like a mother, mainly because she cares about them a lot and protects them. Often, Mari calls her "okaasan" by accident, but Yuzuki enjoys her mistake.

Ui Hideako: Hideako is Mari's best friend, just like a brother to her. He had curiously approached her once, to which they playfully dueled, and ended up being best friends. Hideako loves Mari, but Mari loves him like a brother.

Asari Ryuu: The boy that Mari truly loved, and shared the same feelings, though never showed them. He only showed his feelings towards her when he was dying.

Uchiha clan: The family that took her in when she was half-dead.
*Uchiha Sasuke: She grew a liking towards Sasuke as her own brother, and Sasuke shared the same feelings. After the massacre of the Uchiha clan, both were moved into an apartment.
*Uchiha Itachi: Mari thought that Itachi was an awesome person, that is, until he massacred the whole clan save for Sasuke. Itachi decided not to kill Mari, but he used his mysterious Mangekyou Sharingan on her, to which she relived the dreadful day of her mother and father dying, as well as everyone else. She was unconscious for about three weeks.

Sarutobi Konohamaru: Her official rival. She met him after Ryuu's funeral. The funny thing is, Konohamaru is older than her, yet, ninja-wise, she's a year older than him.

I don't think it's ridiculous. I think that's pretty darn well thought. Plus, he's writing a fanfic about her, so...yeah.

And they're just made-up characters, and she wasn't godly, so she's not ridiculous by Mikey's standards.

About as ridiculous as Naruto being the son of the Fourth Hokage, and as ridiculous as Pein being potentially related to Naruto.

I'm open for discussion about it. Though I'm not going to add him just because Jiraiya said so. Give me reasons why he should be added, other than Jiraiya said he's a genius. Gai also said Lee was a genius, and Lee can't win a fight unless it's filler. >.>

Well yondaime was the most talented and it was proven multiple times the guy invented his own jutsu rasengan,death god,thunder god, he made HIS OWN jutsu dude nobody even came close to that.

Lots of other geniuses have created their own jutsus. That doesn't always make'em a genius.

Give me more reasons why I should add Yondaime to the list.

name a genius who created 3 of the most deadly jutsu and ill drop it.

He surpassed every hokage beforw him noone surpassed him yet he could take out all 3 sanin at once in a second. And was called the legendary 4th by 3 people sarutobi,anko,and iruka. And his talent is immpossible to come by.

He took out thousands of ppl armies with thunder god effortessly 3 people would be quciker thunder god is an unstopable jutsu it has no flaw and once he uses it you are DEAD.

Actually the only person i know who has his own jutsu are kakshi,and tsubnade made a reacarnation, but none of them made 3 powerful ones 2 of what is s rank and is instant death.

Yeeaah, you seem to be oblivious to the fact that those three people you're saying Yondaime can easily kill, at the same time, are Sannins and Hokage material. There's a difference between attacking three Sannins with a quick move and attacking an army of jobber ninja.

True you are the owner but you can't disregard words written by kishi that is how it is meant to be just like the words about tsunade i can diregard all i want but they were meant to be.

And just like i want too look at the ones i want you are doing the same thing only with ppl who said something nobpdy made jutsu like yondaime his jutsu are the strongest and the best.

sarutobi said it yondaiem surpassed all the hokages yes the sanin would be killed by thunder god qucik without any effort.

Even though you may not accept it it will always be there no matter what yondaime was the legendary 4th surpassed all the hokages and still remains unsrupassed.
