Chapter 10 Struggle: The Valkyrie of Valhalla

*Ciltz's Inn 5:00 a.m.*

Fayt was already up and about at 5 in the morning, although he knew for sure
that he only got about 3-4 hours worth of sleep, but that didn't bug him. Tenshi was on his mind, still wondering if he would have to face her today. Maybe he was wrong? That thought repeatedly bounced around in his head, making him unaware of his surroundings. He didn't know that someone sat down at his table.

"Fayt." the person said.

Fayt didn't respond. He was too absorbed in his thoughts.

"Fayt!" the person said again. Still no reaction from him. The person then slammed their fist on the table hard enough that if got Fayt's attention.

"Huh? Kitsune, what're you doing up this early?" Fayt asked.

Kitsune sighed. "Ah, I couldn't sleep easily unlike Albel. How in the world can he sleep peacefully with no worries about the big fight with the Valkyrie today?"

Fayt just shook his head, unable to answer the question. Suddenly footsteps were heard coming from the staircase leading upstairs.

"Albel?" both Fayt and Kitsune asked at once.

Albel rubbed his eyes and noticed Fayt and Kitsune was up as well.

"You mean to tell me you fools couldn't sleep either?" he asked.

"How could we? The Valkyrie fight's today and it's got us worried." Fayt replied.

Albel then joined Fayt and Kitsune at the table for discussion about today's big event.

".....I see. So you'll think that'll work?" Fayt asked with a puzzled tone in his voice.

Albel rested his feet on the table and leaned back on his chair. "I doubt it. That plan seems to advance for us to handle." he answered.

Kitsune sighed and ran her fingers through her hair, completely having a mental breakdown over a plan to fight the Valkyrie. Fayt was getting a headache from thinking too much, and Albel just remained silent after that.

*announcement*

"In about an hour from now, the greatest battle in history is about to unfold us here at Vassa. All those who want to get good seats should come to arena right away. Futher instructions will be--HEY!!! WHAT'RE ARE YOU IDIOTS DOING!? THAT'S NOT WHAT I HAD INSTRUCTED!! GET IT RIGHT YOU WORTHLESS FOOLS!!!!"

As that announcement was heard throughout Ciltz, everyone was in shock at what they just heard. Albel fell back out of his chair, Kitsune's eyes were about the size of grapefruits, and Fayt just had this weird expression on his face.

"Wow, she sounds like you Albel." Fayt said.

Albel got back in his chair and scowled at Fayt.

"C'mon, let's go get ready for the battle that's in an hour." Kitsune suggusted.

Fayt and Albel nodded, and so they did just that.

*at the arena, 1 hour later*

"And this is it folks! The greatest battle in Vassa's history will be brought into light as the challengers, Fayt Leingod, Albel Nox, and Kitsune take on the Legendary Valkyrie of the great Valhalla!!! Here's Tenshi with a few words before the fight."

The crowd was going nuts as Tenshi entered upon the arena.

"Ah yes, this is going to be the greatest battle since the Executioners attack.
Let's just hope the challenging team can withstand the Valkyrie. Now the big moment you've been dying for.....here's the Valkyrie!!!!" Tenshi exclaimed as she threw the microphone down.

A black light engulfed Tenshi, and when it disappeared, she was in black Valkyrie armor. Everyone gasped in amazement and Albel growled. Then he turned angrily towards Fayt.

"Why didn't you tell me Tenshi was the Valkyrie!?" he demanded.

Fayt glared. "I did! But you're so thickheaded you didn't believe me when I told you!"

"Guys," Tenshi began to say,"you should pay attention to the battle at hand instead of meaningless squabbles." As she said that, her giant scythe appeared and a beam of anti-pure energy shot out of it. Kitsune got in front of Fayt and Albel and deflected it.

"Let's go!!" Kitsune exclaimed as she drew her katanas. Albel grined and drew his katana as Fayt smiled and drew his sword.

*5 minutes later*

"I can't believe this! The challenging team is down....no surprise there...but
only after the first 5 minutes of the battle. How did they get passed the beginning battles, God only knows how....I guess the Valkyrie was too much for them."

It was storming, so it was pouring down rain in the arena as well. Albel was trying so much to get up off the muddy ground, but his body refused his orders. Kitsune was on her knees, heavily panting and not even bothering to get up. Tenshi walked over to Fayt who was able to get on his knees, but that was it. Fayt looked up and saw Tenshi looking at him.

"....." Tenshi didn't say one word.

Fayt shook his head. "Go on....finish me..." he weakly said.

Tenshi's expression on her face was filled with tons of disgust and hatred. "What is the point of finishing off a weak person? You are admirable for excepting death, but you are also a great fool."

"Huh?" Fayt asked.

"After all that training you went through with Albel, is this really the extent of your ability? What about your ultimate attack, 'Ethereal Blast?' Can you not invoke your destructive gene at your own will?" Tenshi asked.

"I don't....understand what you're saying..." Fayt said.

Tenshi turned her back on Fayt and walked off.

"You disappoint me, Fayt Leingod. I suggust you go back to Elicoor II, where you and Albel belong." as Tenshi said that she suddenly vanished. Fayt, Albel,
and Kitsune remained in the arena as the storm continued, while everyone else left.

"Maybe there was a mistake in our plan?" Kitsune asked.

"Or maybe....it was just us." Fayt suggusted.

Re: Star Ocean 3 fanfic: Anywhere But Home

Chapter 11 Drowned

After the tournament was over and everyone left Ciltz, Fayt, Albel, and Kitsune went back to the inn but didn't speak to each other though. It was like they blamed each other for their failure for the battle, even though their failure lied somewhere else. But that didn't care to the three. They were just
drowned in their failure and shameness.

The day seemed to drag on forever since either of the three didn't do anything except pass mean glances and looks. Fayt knew he couldn't keep this up, so he left to go in that cave where he saw Tenshi the other night. Albel stayed in his room and just stared out the window into town or at the sky. Kitsue stayed down at the bar section, listening to other peoples converstaions and watching tv that was in the back of the bar.

As Fayt sat down in the cave, remembering what Tenshi said to him, it began
to rain yet again. It was a good thing he found this cave when he did, or else
he'd be wandering in the rain, getting the cloths he changed into all soak and wet. Fayt didn't bother to bring his sword. He knew no one would dare attack
a failure at cooperation and battle. It seemed like forever in the cave since Fayt did nothing but wonder what Tenshi said to him.

Albel's face had an expression of regret, which was rare for him to have. All the time he never regretted anything he did, but somehow he thought this battle would prove that he could handle anything. But since he lost, it was like he lost all hope to ever regain his reputation. He was thinking how his father must be disappointed in him for not trusting himself with others, but then again how could he? His whole life revovled around fighting and war. There was no way Albel would ever get over this.

Kitsune remained down at the bar the whole night, every once and awhile look outside the door to see if Fayt would ever return through those doors. Other than that she watched tv and talked to a few people in the bar.

Night progressed on and Fayt eventually returned to the inn, only to get his sword and head back out into the rain. Kitsune saw him but didn't say anything. She wanted to, but her voice seemed silenced. All she did was look at Fayt leaving the inn again but before that, she saw the expression on his face. It was all sad like, and some tears ran down his cheeks. Kitsune was thinking that Fayt was going to kill himself, but that thought perished as Fayt
looked at her with an expression of a "good-bye." After that Fayt left the inn and that was last time he was seen in Ciltz.

Albel was getting bored from staring, so he grabbed his katana and left the room, only to be stopped by Kitsune.

"Albel!" Kitsune said panting. "Fayt....he-he left here and he-"

"What that worm does is of no concern for me. He's old enough to decide what to do." Albel said lookig away from Kitsune.

"But Albel, we don't know if he's going to-"

"Shut up!!!" Albel barked. Kitsune gulped and Albel continued to go down the steps.

Before she knew it, Albel had left the inn as well and it was last time he was ever seen in Ciltz. Kitsune was left all alone, while Fayt and Albel did only God knows what.

"Fayt....Albel...." Kitsune weakly said as she punched the floor hardly.

Chapter 12 The Reason Why I Exist: Albel Nox

~flashback 9 yrs ago~

"Albel, are you sure you're ready?" asked Albel's father to the young 15 year old Albel.

"Yes father, I am ready to prove that I can take position among one of Airyglyph's military forces." Albel replied.

"Very well. I hope you do me proud son."

"Sir Glou Nox and Albel Nox I presume?" a girl asked walking from behind them.

Albel turned around and saw a girl around his age, wearing assassin looking cloths. Glou Nox nodded his head.

"I am here to escort you and Albel to the ceremony grounds." the girl said.

"Albel....are you sure you're ready? This is going to be a difficult task to accomplish." Glou Nox asked Albel again.

Albel was trembling a little, but not so bad that his father would've noticed.

"Yes, I am ready father. What is it I'm supposed to do again?" Albel asked.

Glou Nox placed his hands on both of Albel's shoulders and looked him square in the eyes.

"You are to try and have a communion with a powerful air dragon. Should you
succeed you will take my place as captain of the Dragon Brigade. But should you fail...." Glou Nox didn't finish the sentence. He didn't want say the outcome and scare Albel out of his teen mind.

Albel closed his eyes, taking in the possibilities if he would succeed or fail.

"Are you sure Sir Albel is ready?" the girl asked.

"Yes, he is indeed ready to accomplish the Accession of Flame ceremony. Come Albel, you're ceremony awaits." Glou Nox said.

Albel clentched his hands into fists and gulped. After that the girl led Albel and his father to the ceremony.

*at the ceremony*

"Tell me, son of Glou Nox, why do you wish to become captain of the Dragon Brigade?" the mighty air dragon asked.

"I....I want to become captain of the Dragon Brigade so I can uphold my father's legacy." Albel replied, freaking out on the inside.

"I see. A wise decision, son of Glou Nox. Now tell me, what is it that you hate?" the dragon asked.

'What I hate?' Albel asked himself.

Albel had a hard time finding the answer to this question.

"I ask again. Son of Glou Nox, what is it that you hate?" the dragon repeated.

Albel couldn't answer the question. He just couldn't sort out his feelings and find the answer.

"I see you refuse to answer the question. You are not worthy of taking your father's place amongst the Dragon Brigade. Now you shall die for your hubris actions!" the dragon exclaimed breathing fire down at the frozen Albel.

Albel was so scared out of his mind that his body wouldn't move, and so all he could do was stare in the eyes of his death.

"Father...." he weakly cried.

Glou Nox who was by the exit watching his son's performance, wasn't there anymore.

"Farewell, son of Glou Nox!" the dragon breathed its firery fury down at Albel who was still frozen. Albel was awaiting the burn of the fire, but when he expected the fire to hit him, it didn't. His father was shielding him from the flames.

"F-father?" Albel asked looking up.

"Albel....my dear son....you must continue on living. I am.....sorry for making you go....through this..." Glou Nox said.

The fire subsided and Albel's father collasped to the ground.

"Father!!" Albel cried.

"Albel....I am....proud of....you. Your mother and I will.....always love you...."
Those were the last words Glou Nox ever said. Albel, crying so much, didn't even realize that his left arm was gone!

The girl who escorted Albel and father here ran to the arena and went to Albel's side.

"Sir Albel, we need to tend to your arm or you might die of blood loss." the girl
suggested. She picked Albel up and quickly left the arena to heal his arm.

~~~~~~~~end of flashback~~~~~~~
Albel was sitting under a tree while it rained, staring into the palm of his claw.
"I see....so that's the reason why I exist....for my father." he said.
Re: Star Ocean 3 fanfic: Anywhere But Home
Chapter 13 First Meeting
~Kitsune's flashback~
(Kitsune's point of view)
Badly brusied and a few cuts on me, I stared down my defeated opponent. He
was bleeding badly from his stomach.
"I suggest you backdown now. I might even think of letting you live." I said.
"Never would I dream of b-" he began, but a girl out of nowhere gave him a hard punch to the back of his head. He fell to the ground unconscious.
I looked at the girl. She had medium-length black hair. She was wearing a tight, black Happy Bunny tanktop that showed some of her stomach. On it Happy Bunny held an ax behind its back saying, "Let's Play Tag...I'm It." She also had baggy black cargo pants that hung so low they showed the elastic band on her underwear. She had black sneakers with a blue streak going down the middle.
"Sorry. Was the fight over?" She gazed intently in my eyes. I was hypnotized by hers. They were hazel-blue with snake-like pupils. They were showing one emotion: hatred. But I couldn't figure out why or who she hated.
"Uhh...kind of..." I said scratching my head. "Who are you?"
"Wait. Your fight's over?" the girl asked. When I nodded, she growled and began pacing. "I can't believe it! Do you know what this means?! This is the fifth battle I've missed out on!"
"And this is important to you why?" I asked. She stopped pacing and squinted
at me. Faster than I had expected the girl was only a foot away from my face
and staring into my eyes. "What's your problem?"
"Do I know you?" she asked.
"I've never met you."
"Hmmm...I feel like I know you somehow...Oh well." she said. She backed off and cracked her knuckles. "Now I've got to go to Miako. And Riku-san won't like that."
"Hey Kitsune!" I turned to see Kasuke, my sister, running to me.
"Hey Kasuke."
"Kitsune, what were you doing?"
"Just working out."
"Who are you?" Kasuke was scrutenizing the girl.
"Name's Tenshi. If you ever need me just shout." She began chanting a spell.
"Wait!" Kasuke interrupted her. "Do your parents know where you are?"
Tenshi tensed up. I quickly looked at Kasuke. Was she trying to get herself killed? I looked back at Tenshi, who had lowered her hands to her side.
"No, they don't. Then again," she turned to look at us. I saw the same hate in
her eyes, but it was more intense. "My parents are dead."
Kasuke gave a small gasp. Tenshi turned away and was about to begin chanting again when...
"I'm sorry-"
"Don't give me that crap." Tenshi spun around. There were tears rolling down her cheeks. "I don't care that they're gone. In fact, my life's been better without them."
"You're lying. I can see it in your eyes. You miss them." I said. Tenshi blinked in astonishment. I turned to Kasuke. "Let's go."
We walked away from Tenshi.
The next day I was walking around the woods. I wasn't really paying attention
to my surroundings. I was receiting the training list I needed to do, so I was very surprised when a monster stopped me. I nearly ran into it!
"Oh, great. Another headache." I said.
The monster growled at me, showing off its fangs. I prepared my weapon, and
looked back at the monster. It was very big, bigger than the last monster I had faced. It was also a very vicious looking one.
'I don't know if I can beat it.' I thought. As that thought went through my mind, the monster gave a pained howl. It fell to the ground. I saw the end
of a sword flashfrom the monster's throat. The sword landed tip down in front
of me. A girl landed on the hilt bars. The girl's shoes were black with a blue streak going down the middle.
"Did ya miss me?" the girl asked with a smirk on her face.
"Tenshi?" 'What is she doing here?! I could've handled that thing!'
Tenshi did a backflip off the sword. As she pulled it out of the ground, I noticed the blade was black crystal with black electricity in it. The sword began shrinking and turned metallic. It was now the size of a key chain charm. What kind of sword was that?
"I leave you alone for 12 hours and you're in trouble again." She placed a hand
on my shoulder.
"What're you doing here?" I asked as I felt her grip tighten.
"Taking you to your sister." We started walking. "Don't think I'll leave this time, though."
I smiled. "I had hoped you wouldn't."
And that was my first encounter ever with Tenshi.
Chapter 14 Unlucky
"Damn, I shouldn't of left the inn with it was raining. I had a feeling it would storm again." Fayt said to himself, wandering in the dark forest. "And it probably would've made Kitsune a little happier if I did stay. But what's done is done."
The rain began to pour harder, making it feel like little pebbles were hitting your skin, while lightning danced in the skies wildly. Fayt had a feeling the storm would become worse, and since he was in the middle of a forest, he'd have to find shelter somewhere. Fayt's luck turned worst as the wind started to pick up and the rain turned into hail. Thunder cracked in the sky and made the ground shake, but alas, Fayt continued to walk, ignoring the horrible weather. But after awhile, the hail that was hitting his skin was beginning to hurt him, so he decided to find a cave and hide in there.
"I have a feeling this storm won't subside till later on. I guess staying in this cave is my only option." Fayt sighed.
"I wonder what everyone else is up to..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Albel~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~

"Huh, this storm is relentless, I might be stuck in this useless town all night." Albel said looking out a window in another town's inn.

"Uhm, you are the one known as Albel Nox, correct?" a girl asked from behind Albel.

Albel shifted his attention from the window to the girl.

"Kitsune?" he asked.

The girl looked exactly like Kitsune, except her hair was long and silver, and her eyes were a calm blue color. And her expression on her face was gentle too.

"Kitsune....no, I'm not. I'm her older sister, Kasuke." the girl replied with a smile on her face.

Albel scowled and looked back out the window. "Hmph, so what do you want, worm?"

".....I...I want to help you." Kasuke answered.

"Help me with what?" asked Albel quickly giving Kasuke a glance. Kasuke sat down on Albel's bed and put her hair up in a ponytail.

"So are you going to answer my question or not?"

Kasuke leaned against the wall while on the bed, looking intently at Albel.

"Whatever it is you're trying to accomplish, I want to help you achieve it." she
said.

"Hah! What can a fool like you do?" Albel chuckled.

"Well, I am a Judgement Assassin like Kitsune, but I'm a Level S rank in that field." Kitsune said twirling her finger through her long bang that hung at the side of her face.

Albel turned around and stared at Kasuke.

"There's ranks in your job?" he asked a little skeptical.

Kasuke nodded. "Yeah, it all depends on your use of abilities and how many missions you've done. My sister is rank B, but she mostly does reconnaissance
and healing. But her fighting is rank S for a rank B."

"Hmm...that does explain why she was so good in the tournament, especially
night fighting...." Albel said.

Albel then had this lost look on his face, but then he looked at Kasuke.

"Very well, if you are an S rank assassin, then you can help me."

"Thank you!" Kasuke exclaimed with a happy expression on her face.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Kitsune~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~
*tv*
"And it seems the storm is only getting stronger. All people are advised to stay indoors until the storm has moved on through our area. Further more instructions will---"
"Lady Kitsune, weren't you accompanied by two males? One 19 years old and the other 24 years old?" a lady at Ciltz's inn asked.
Kitsune was about at the limit of her awareness, ready to crash any minute. She was lucky to of even hear the girl speak to her. She slowly raised her head from the table.
"Uhnn....there was....but they left before the storm came." she weakly said.
"Are you not worried about them? For all we know, they could stuck in this terrible storm." the girl continued.
Kitsune glared at the girl, and the girl bowed.
"I'm sorry Lady Kitsune, I spoke out of place." she said.
Kitsune tried to get out of her chair, but her legs were all numb, so she couldn't stand. "Help please."
The girl kneeled down and used some symbology to cure Kitsune's knees, and Kitsune then got out her chair and stretched.
"Ok, you, go fetch my katanas in the hall closet." Kitsune pointed to the girl and girl bowed and left.
"Lady Kitsune, you don't mean you're going out in the midst of this storm. Surely you can-"
"I'm going. Those 2 are important to me. If I were to leave them in this storm I wouldn't be able to sleep at night."
"Lady Kitsune, your weapons." the girl handed the katanas to her. "And here's some Physical and Mental Enhancers."
Kitsune took her weapons and items and opened the door, allowing the wind to run through the inn like a train. It howled like spirits trying to communicate
with reality, and rain shot through the door as well. Kitsune stood facing outside, and said some words to her servant.
"If I'm not back within a week and a half, send him to come find me." she said.
"Understood." the servant responded.
After that Kitsune closed the door behind her and set out to find Fayt and Albel. 'I will find you 2, don't you worry.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~

Fayt was staring out into the storm, trying to think of something.

"It's time like this when I wish I had my Communicator. Damn I wish I didn't leave all my other stuff at the inn." he said as he punched the ground.

He turned around and bit his lip, but then a strange light from somewhere in the cave caught his attention.

"A light?"

He then stood up, and followed the light, unsure of where it would lead him.

Albel was talking to Kasuke the whole night, and Kitsune was travelling in the midst of the storm, trying to find her friends.

Re: Star Ocean 3 fanfic: Anywhere But Home

Chapter 15 Battle Against the Demons

After the nasty storm had blown through Albel's town, Albel just decided to spend the night, despite how much it might've cost him. He thought it was the smartest thing to do instead of going back out into the dark. Kasuke followed his orders and spent the night in another room, cleaning off the dried blood from her "Talatsu" double sword. One thing bothered her.... what was Albel trying to accomplish? She endlessly thought that to herself, but as the night progressed, that thought faded as a bad feeling nailed her in the gut.

She grabbed her double sword and headed off into the northeast exit of the town. On the hill, she saw what she thought.... tons of demons from the Daemonium, where coming this way. Kasuke was frozen at the sight. It seemed the army of demons were endless, and as it grew darker outside, the demonic aura resonating from the demons greatly showed. Kasuke would have to find someway of reducing the army while alerting the town, but what could she do? Kasuke bit her lip in frustration as she decided to reduce the army.

Albel, who was about to go to sleep, heard some roars and explosions. He grabbed his katana and ran to see if Kasuke was in her room, but she wasn't.

"She must've gone out to fight what I just heard.... I’d better lend a hand." Albel said running downstairs and out the door.

As Albel was running into town, he saw some of the demons causing destruction in the town, so Albel decided to rid of the demons and catch up with Kasuke later.

In the midst of the demon army, Kasuke was battling her heart out. Running out of energy to defend and attack, she began feeling light-headed.

"This isn't good. If I pass out here, I'm as good as dead!" Kasuke exclaimed as her breathing became heavier. A demon tried to sneak up on her, but Kasuke sensed the demon and hacked it to pieces.

Running out of choices, Kasuke decided to use a Judgement Assassin's forbidden technique, called "Nieblung Valesti." Her double sword extended out and she started to spin it like a fan, drawing in any nearby demons. After that she tripled cloned herself and spreaded out in the army, finishing the rest of the technique.

Albel was having fun killing the demons that were invading the town. He found some enjoyment in killing, making him smile, which was rare of him to do. All the demons were small fry, giving Albel no challenge at all, which bored him very quickly. Instead of continuing the small fry battles, he decided to leave the town in an attempt to find the leader of the demons.

Kasuke’s Nieblung Valesti did some major reducing to the demon army, but more and more kept coming. It was like, there was someplace where the demons kept coming up, but Kasuke couldn’t detect anything in her current condition. Nieblung Valesti took too much out of her. Luckily she moved to a safe distance so the demons wouldn’t spot her. In her location, Kasuke was healing herself so she could get back out there and fight.

Albel was running to the exit while a scream was heard. He quickly turned in the direction it came from and ran to there. The scream was from a little girl who was being cornered by a demon. She griped her teddy bear tightly, covering her eyes from the unsightly demon, trembling in fear. Right when the demon was about to devour the girl, the demon spilt into two and vanished. The girl looked up and saw Albel hovering over her. She seemed hypnotized by the blood covered on him, but she got up when Albel helped her onto her feet.

“Thank you for saving me.” said the girl bowing.

“Nonsense,” laughed Albel. “I only came cuz I heard the demon. Now go hide before you get yourself killed.”

The girl nodded and ran into a house, slamming the door shut. Albel sighed and ran his fingers through his hair, relaxing the katana on his left shoulder. Suddenly he sensed something…symbology. Then he ran out of town to find the location of the symbology.

“This isn’t good.” Kasuke said as she was cornered by a pack of bloodthirsty demons.

The demons showed off their ferocious fangs, growling with the intent to kill. Kasuke had a feeling she might not come out of this pack alive, so she drew her double sword and prepared herself for the battle of her lifetime. But as soon as she readied herself to attack, the demons began disappearing one by one. Confused, Kasuke stood idly by, watching as the pack of demons were reduced to nothing. In the complete nothingness of the dark, a figure began appearing, slowly making its way to Kasuke. All Kasuke did was stand frozen, shocked at what she just saw. Soon a little reflection shined off the figure’s neck and right arm.

“Worthless, completely worthless.” the figure said.

“Albel…?” Kasuke slowly asked.

“The one and only. Kasuke, I thought you said you were an S rank Judgement Assassin? Pretty pitiful to see you in this condition.” Albel replied placing his claw on his katana sheath.

Kasuke released a sigh of sorrow.

“I am. I dunno what came over me. Sorry if I worried you.” she apologized.

“Worthless maggot…” Albel mumbled under his breath, averting his look away from her.

“So what’re we gonna do about the demons?” asked Kasuke.

Albel shrugged and shook his head.

“No idea, eh?”

Albel shrugged yet again. After that Kasuke started thinking.

“Hey fool!” Albel called to her. Kasuke looked at him.

“Yeah?”

“You should tend to those wounds of yours before demons smell the scent of your blood and come hunting us.” replied Albel.

Kasuke took a good look at herself and smiled. “I should. Be right back!” She ran off into a cave, leaving Albel alone for a temporary amount of time. In that time Albel decided to use symbology to heal some of his wounds. Soon after Kasuke came back cracking her fingers.

“Albel…” she began to say. “I found the location of where the demons are coming from.”

“Sooo…?”

“Sooo…the demons found a way to shatter the barriers that protect this world from demons and are endlessly coming. Unless we do something, the Master Demon will show and cause the apocalypse of this planet. After that, they’ll move on to cleansing the universe of all species and make this universe their own.” Kasuke explained.

“!?” Albel was amazed to hear that.

“So we need to destroy the demons entrance, or else…”

Albel smirked and drew his katana. “Let’s go. We have demons to kill.”

Kasuke smiled. “Thank you. This way!” Both her and Albel ran in the direction Kasuke said, ready to fight some demons.

Re: Star Ocean 3 fanfic: Anywhere But Home

Chapter 16 The Crystal City

"A light?" Fayt asked as he got up and walked in the direction of the light, unsure of where it would take him.

The light seemed to never fade, despite how far Fayt must've travelled in the cave. All the light did was grow brighter, so Fayt probably was close to the main part of the cave, or heart of it. While he was walking, Fayt began to noticed some symbolic writing on the walls, and somehow he couldn't read it. It was the exact same symbolic writing that was on the sign that told him how far Ciltz was. That didn't bug him though, the light did.

"How far does this light go?" Fayt asked himself.

Fayt was sure that he was pretty far into the cave, and soon, growling was heard. He gulped and drew his Leavitine sword that he acquired on floor 209 at Sphere 211. After that he cautiously proceeded further into the cave. Suddenly the cave began to shake violently, and Fayt freaked out so he ran in the direction of the light instead of heading to the exit. When Fayt hit the heart of the cave, the shaking just suddenly stopped.

Fayt looked back and saw that his way out caved in, so he was now stuck in the cave. But when he looked back he saw that the light came from a crystalized civilization. People were actually living there too! Fayt calmly withdrew his sword and walked out into the city.

"Wow..." Fayt said amazed at the city.

The people that walked out and about the city had some form of unique clothing. Fayt was totally shocked at the females. All of them were beautiful and skinny. The males were all handsome and the clothes they wore were designed in *bishonen style. Fayt was amazed that the males dressed similar to Albel, but that thought vanished as one of the females came and greeted him.

"Hello there. I do not believe we have met before. I am Naru, a triple rank S Judgement Assassin. Are you perhaps new to this place?" Naru asked calmly.

Fayt's face was totally red. "Um...y-yes. I'm Fayt Leingod. Nice to meet you Miss Naru."

"Please, you can just call Naru, if I may call you Fayt."

"Sure!"

Naru giggled and showed Fayt around the city.

*2 hours later*

"....and that is about it. Do you have any questions?" Naru asked.

Fayt scratched his head. "Actually, yes I do."

"Ok then, ask away. I will try to answer to the best of my ability." said Naru smiling.

"Judgement Assassins....what are they?"

Naru looked at Fayt with a serious look. "They are assassins, but we mostly do various jobs depending on our ability to fight. Sometimes we execute people, fight, heal, sometimes we do reconnaissance, and other times we guard people." she explained.

"Wow. So is there like a lot of you Judgement Assassins on Vassa?" asked Fayt.

"Yes, there is. Vassa is the central main point for us. I heard you met Kitsune,
our information gatherer. She can be troublesome, but she is such a sweet and protective girl. Some of our higher ups feel bad for making her join." Naru said with a slight sad expression.

"Kitsune was forced to join?"

Naru nodded. "Yes. Her older sister Kasuke objected to it though, but the Lord of our group saw how maneuverable and swift she was, and so he ordered her to join. Kitsune's parents did not like the idea of having both of their daughters be in this kind of work."

As Naru said that Fayt looked away and began to feel bad for leaving Kitsune like that.

"Was...Kitsune always protective?" Fayt slowly asked.

Naru looked at Fayt then averted her look away from him.

"Not as much as she is now."

"?"

"When Kitsune's parents were alive, she was a carefree girl. She did not care if her parents were to suddenly disappear or die. But....one night, while it was storming, some Dark Knights from the Klaus System came to annihilate Kitsune's family. Kitsune was out of harms way and so was Kasuke, but her parents were not. They fought bravely and killed some of the Dark Knights, but they were not strong enough to kill all 6 of them. After the Dark Knights had left, Kitsune returned and found her parents dead, and she....could not take in the fact that they were dead. She constantly blamed herself and when 2 years had passed since the incident, she swore that she would not allow anyone she cared about to die." Naru said drinking her water.

Fayt felt really bad after hearing that, so he got up. Naru asked him what he was going to do, but Fayt didn't say one word. Now he had to return to Kitsune and apologize to her. As he was wandering around, trying to find the exit, Naru was following him.

"You don't need to follow me." Fayt said.

"Yes, I do. The way you came in is the entrance, the exit you have to go through our pure sanctuary, and you need one of us to help you get through it. So I am going whether you like it or not!" Naru exclaimed.

Fayt turned around and looked into Naru's warm, inviting red eyes. After that he turned back around and walked off. "Fine. Just make sure you know how to fight."

Naru smiled. "No need to worry about me. Our tribe can fight and summon, such is the way of our old teachings."

Naru led Fayt to the way of the sanctuary, which looked like a big crystal stairway. Fayt looked up and shook his head.

"How long is this stairway?" he asked.

"Um, I think it is better not to tell you." Naru replied.

"Heh, good point." Fayt agreed.

Naru then began to walk up the stairway, and shortly after Fayt followed. While he walking up the stairs, Fayt was thinking.

'So Kitsune's parents died from an entity I never heard of. I can kinda understand how she must feel. I still can't get over the fact that my father died from the Vendeeni, and I still dunno about my mother's whereabouts. I guess things will never be the same as before Hyda got attacked.' he thought.

"Fayt!" Naru called back to him. Fayt stopped thinking and looked at her.

"Yes?"

"We are here. The sanctuary." Naru continued.

"Already?" Fayt asked.

Naru spun around and smiled. "Yep! I am only staying with you until we reach the exit to the sanctuary. After that you are on your own, ok?"

Fayt nodded and Naru then opened the crystal looking door. Inside a pure light shined through, and temporarily blinded Fayt. As his eyes got used to it, he saw Naru looking at him.

"Let us go." Naru suggested.

"Yes." As Fayt said both he and Naru walked through the door and into the sanctuary.

Re: Star Ocean 3 fanfic: Anywhere But Home

Chapter 17 The Sanctuary

Beyond the light of the crystalized door stood another realm, well, at least to Fayt anyways. To Naru, it was just another home. Slowly walking through the door Fayt's face began to show a puzzled look. Naru sensed it and calmly asked.

"What is it?" she asked.

Fayt placed a finger on his chin and an innocent look took over. "How did this whole place become crystalized?"

Naru spun around and smiled. "I have no idea." she replied.

Fayt sighed and continued into the weird realm. He thought that this place might've been created by Luther, aka, the creator of Fayt's universe, for some purpose, but Fayt couldn't place his finger on it though. Observing the sanctuary, Fayt even noticed the water in this place was crystalized, but it still flowed like normal water.

Naru quickly glanced back at Fayt and continued to guide him.

"Be forewarned Fayt," Naru began to say. "The monsters here are extremely tough and powerful. Many people come through here, and none so far have come back. But as long as you are with me, you will be safe."

"Uhm... how tough are the monsters you speak of?" Fayt asked, and for a good reason too.

Naru gave Fayt a piercing, cold look, and that made Fayt gulp.

"They are way more stronger than Freya." Naru responded.

"Freya?"

"Another Valkyrie of Valhalla, or so legends claim. But I will say this: no monster here is stronger than Hrist, the eldest sister of the Valkyrie God Odin.
The middle sister is Lenneth, and the youngest, Silmeria. Freya mostly supports Odin by doing multiple tasks, but none have seen her fight." Naru explained.

Fayt was left in shock. "Wow, you know your facts." he said. "But wait, Freya... why does that name seem so familiar...?"

"Maybe you have heard of her, I do not know." Naru said coming to an unsightly halt.

Fayt wondered why she did that, but when he looked over her shoulder, he saw why. A huge, hideous looking demon bat was blocking their path. Naru growled and summoned a gaint scythe, one resembling Tenshi's, but the blade was more deathly looking. Fayt almost coward in fear of it, but Naru looked back at him to see if he drew his sword. Fayt drew his sword and came up to Naru's side.

"Is this one of those tough monsters you spoke of earlier?" Fayt asked with a little frighteness in his voice.

Naru shook her head. "Nope, this is the small fry at the beginning. As we travel further into the sanctuary, the monsters will be a lot stronger."

"Oh great..." Fayt sighed.

"You scared?" asked Naru with a smirk on her face.

"A little. I mean, you said many have passed through here and none have returned, that sorta sends a bad chill down my spine." Fayt replied.

The demon screeched, and that bugged Naru a lot, so she swung her great scythe at it and the demon shattered like glass and vanished. So Fayt drew his sword for nothing!

"Well now, since that nuisance is gone, shall we continue?" Naru asked.

Fayt nodded and they both proceeded into the crystalized realm. As they journeyed, the monsters that kept appearing grew even stronger, and the sanctuary seemed more like a maze by the minute. Fayt feared that he and Naru wouldn't find their way out.

As the day continued on, Fayt slowly began to get sleepy, and Naru was quickly finding shelter so they both could rest. She luckily found a cave and decided to call it a night. Fayt rested against the wall, slowly nodding off to sleep. Naru occasionally glanced out the cave to see if any monsters would pass by, other than that she tried to fall asleep as well.

Darkness swallowed the cave like wildfire, and Fayt and Naru were sleeping blissfully, like nothing worried them at all. Fayt slowly woke up to the sound of
explosions and fearful growling and pained howls. He looked around to see if Naru was still in the cave, but she wasn't.

"Naru!!!" Fayt called. No answer. He grabbed his sword and headed outside.

Upon leaving the cave, the explosions, growling, and pained howls grew louder. Trying to sight Naru, Fayt saw nothing but a bunch of demons. Terrible looking demons at that too! But half of them were lying on the ground, dead, or horribly wounded. Fayt rushed out in the midst of the crowd of demons, killing all who stood in his way.

"NARU!!!!" Fayt yelled.

"FAYT!!!!" a voice yelled back.

Frantically looking around to find where the voice was coming from, Fayt wasn't paying attention to a demon coming up on him from behind. Raising its deadly claws over Fayt's head, the demon prepared to strike down Fayt, but this sudden burst of energy came out of nowhere and destroyed the beast. At that moment Fayt turned around to find a demon lying dead at his feet. He just shrugged.

"NARU, WHERE ARE YOU!?" Fayt called out.

"IN FRONT OF...." the voice suddenly appeared in front of Fayt. "....you."

Fayt sort of jumped when Naru suddenly appeared like that. That same calming smile was on Naru's face, relaxing Fayt a little.

"So...how did all these demons-"

"I do not know Fayt. Someone or something must be making these demons act this way. No way in 10 years should these demons gather up like this." Naru said.

As soon as Naru said that practically all the demons suddenly died. This really made Naru and Fayt confused.

"Ok, this is really starting to bug me!" Naru exclaimed.

She turned to Fayt with a really confused expression.

"Normally I would not do this, but this time I have no choice. We will have to split up. Since you are new here I should be staying with you, but with these recent events we will have to search the sanctuary for anything unusal. Ok with you Fayt?" Naru asked.

"Yeah, it doesn't bother me. Actually I wanted to search this place too. So where will we meet up?"

"Uhm...." Naru looked around for a bit. "Ah, see those lines of Brushelwood trees? We will meet up there when we are done searching. If you need help just shout my name and I will vanish to your spot." Naru started walking off.

Fayt nodded and headed off in the opposite direction. "Something unsual huh? This should be fun..."

Fayt sighed after that and ventured off into the sanctuary, as well as Naru.

Re: Star Ocean 3 fanfic: Anywhere But Home

Chapter 18 The Secret Within

Separated from Naru, Fayt wandering in the crystalized dimension, searching for as Naru said, "anything unusal." But since the whole place was crystalized, almost everything seemed unusal. Fayt wouldn't allow this place to distract him from his true purpose of splitting up from Naru.

"Anything unusal huh? This whole place is nothing but unusal." Fayt stated looking around. Walking around with no clue where he's going, Fayt ended up coming to a place resembling a meadow, only it was crystalized. Walking up onto a hill, he took a look at the view before him.

"This place would be beautiful if it wasn't crystalized."

He looked around and spotted something that shouldn't of been there. He walked over to this spherical object and carefully observed it.

"Could this be the thing Naru was talking about...?" Picking up the object, he held it in his palm, an orb that had an aura resonating from it. This aura had a demonic like presence to it, and Fayt could sense it. "This orb..."

A sudden growl was heard from behind Fayt, so he turned around and quickly ducked, avoiding a swipe from a demons claws. Moving quickly Fayt punched the demon in its gut then drew his sword and stabbed it, killing the demon right where it stood. Resting the sword upon his shoulder, Fayt took a look at the orb again.

"Why is orb resonating a demonic aura?" he asked.

More growls were heard coming his way, Fayt decided to run off and avoid the unnecessary battles. Seeking shelter behind some rocks, he observed the orb yet again.

"A demonic aura....demons who attack relentlessly....are the 2 connected...? Or is it just the orb causing all of it?" Fayt asked himself.

Just as he thought he was out of danger, more demons came. Fayt sighed and defeated them all than ran off again.

------------------------------ Naru ---------------------------------------

"*sigh* What a pain. Why do I keep getting the tough demons?" Naru asked as she killed the last demon who stood blocking her path. Making her scythe disappear she ran her fingers through her hair.

"Wonder how Fayt is holding up? Nah, I should not worry. Fayt seems strong enough to handle a few dozen demons. But what the hell are we searching for?"

As she asked that a demon struck her down. Blood, slowly flowing from her body, Naru layed motionless on the ground as the demon howled. Suddenly a strong wind flowed around Naru, and a demonic aura soon took the winds place.

"You just made Naru mad, and when Naru gets mad, something has to die!!!" Naru bellowed as she got up onto her feet. Her eyes were completely bloodshot, and sharp demon fangs took place of her normal teeth. Claws formed and demon wings formed on her back.

The demon roared and rushed after Naru, but Naru suddenly vanished and caused an explosion in the process, destroying the demon. Flying through the air and searching for demons, Naru spotted a group and ambushed them. As the demons died, Naru drank their blood and her normal attitude returned, but her demonic features remained.

"Whew, I don't want Fayt to see that happen." Naru sighed. Cracking her knuckles she walked off again and fought off demons in her path and caused countless explosions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hearing the countless explosions, Fayt was looking around to see if it was anywhere near him, but they weren't.

"Is it demons or Naru? No matter, whoever's causing it is drawing attention to themselves." Fayt said hiding in some bushes, seeing tons of demons cross his vision and towards the explosions.

As the last of the demons passed by, Fayt got out of the bushes and decided to follow where the explosions were coming from. Keeping a good amount of distance between himself and the demons, Fayt kept getting this bad chill.

"Damn, what's going on with me?" he asked shaking his head.

Holding the orb he found close to him, he continued to follow the demons, despite how many bad chills he got. Finally the demons came to a stop and Fayt did the same. He decided to climb a tree to see why the demons stopped, and he saw why they did.

Naru was in the demons pathway, killing all of them. Shocked at the site held before him, Fayt just stared at the completely different looking Naru.

"N-Naru!?" he asked, but not so loud that the demons below would've heard him.

Naru was standing still with a grin on her face, as if she already knew that she won this battle. The demons roared and howled at Naru, but none of that bothered her. Then all the demons closed in on her and attacked her, but this black vortex surrounded Naru, and when the demons touched the vortex, they suddenly vanished. All the demons were stupid enough to keep touching the vortex and disappear. One by one the demons vanished and soon none remained.

Surprised at what he saw, Fayt clenched the orb tightly and stayed in the tree, afraid to get down. Naru lost some of her demonic featured, mainly her wings, and started walking off towards Fayt. Fayt froze in fear, but as Naru calmly walked under Fayt, she didn't look up. When she was far off Fayt sighed in relief and got off the tree.

"Was that really Naru?" he asked looking back at mark left on ground from the vortex.

Looking back to where Naru walked off, Fayt sat on the ground and began thinking of his next move. But what should he do? Go back to Naru and have a possibility of dying? Or continue through the sanctuary unguided and get lost easily? Fayt just didn't know what to do.

"Gah, what am I supposed to do!?" Fayt shouted smacking his head.

"What you must do is destroy the orb now Fayt." a voice replied.

Fayt quickly turned around and saw Naru standing behind him, licking the blood off her fingers and staring at him with the bloodthirsty eyes. Fayt began to panic.

"Who are you?" Fayt sharply asked.

"Why, I am Naru of course." Naru replied.

"No you're not! Naru wouldn't have that bloodthirsty look in her eyes and demonic features!" Fayt exclaimed.

Naru began laughing and then looked Fayt in the eyes with the thirst to kill. Slowly rising to his feet, Fayt drew out his sword in case a battle would start. Keeping eye contact with her so closely, Fayt stared deeply into Naru's bloody red eyes.

"Do you fear me now Fayt? Do you fear the entity that stands before you?" Naru asked.

Still staring, Fayt shook his head.

"You are not afraid? What if I was to suddenly..." Naru suddenly vanished and reappeared behind Fayt with her scythe blade to his throat. Fayt gulped and got out of his trance.

"Are you afraid now?" asked Naru.

Sweat ran down the side of Fayt's face. "N-no, I'm not."

"Pretty confident for a cute 19 year old." Naru said smiling.

Fayt sort of blushed and thought of a plan to get out of the mess he's in. Slowly and quietly chanting symbology, Fayt calmly closed his eyes. Naru was suspecting something, but nothing such as the symbology "Explosion." A big ball of fire formed above their heads. Naru looked up and backed off, and in that free time Fayt ran off to a safe place as the ball of fire touched the ground and engulfed the surrounding area in flames.

Naru was in the flames, but Fayt didn't know for sure if he'd kill her. Deciding not to stay around to find out, Fayt ran off in some random direction.

"That is it you foolish mortal, run! But know this; you cannot hide from me." Naru said emerging from the flames unburnt and smiling.

Re: Star Ocean 3 fanfic: Anywhere But Home

Chapter 19 The Devil’s Child

Running to find a safe to place to hide, Fayt was running out of breath and energy very fast, but he knew that he couldn’t let Naru catch up with him. Soon he found shelter in between some high rocks and decided to take a short break.

“*Sigh* I can’t believe what I just saw… is Naru a demon like Tenshi too? She has to be cuz I saw what she did to those demons.” Fayt said, still panting a little.

Resting by some brushelwood, Fayt was eagerly trying to come up with a plan to get himself out of the mess he got in. He kept looking around to see if Naru was nearby, but then he forgot that she could fly, thus giving himself a pretty hard challenge. But he knew he could get himself out, only because he’s been in worse situations before. Like getting confused in Sphere 211 with all those rooms he had to go through. Or the time Albel got into the brouhaha with the lord of a town and both him and Fayt were kicked out and got into a fight with the lord’s henchmen.

“Albel… I wonder what he’s up to…” Fayt pondered. “Nah, I shouldn’t worry about him. He’s strong enough to take care of himself. Now if I can somehow get Kitsune over here I’d have a better chance of surviving this place.”

He carefully walked off and had his sword prepared for any encounters. But since the place was a nest for demons and the like, battles were endless in this place, and having found out Naru’s deepest secret, nowhere was considered safe.

“Ugh. Still no sign of the exit.” Fayt said in disgust as he stumbled upon a crystallized ocean.

The ocean was like any other ocean, except something was different from besides the fact that it was crystallized. A little spacial distortion was near the water, so Fayt carefully walked over to it.

“A spacial distortion? Here?” asked Fayt skeptically.

Something flew into the distortion and suddenly vanished. A little warp was shown, and Fayt got an idea in his head. He carefully walked into the distortion and vanished from the sanctuary.

~Inside the distortion~

“Wow!” Fayt said amazed at the place before him.

“Please state your destination.” A voice said.

Fayt sort of panicked at the voice heard before him. Suddenly this big screen appeared before Fayt and he saw the whole Milky Way galaxy. At that moment a memory of him being in 4-D Space with his group, searching for Luther, came to his mind.

“It’s just like the terminal in Gemity. I wonder if it works the same way too…?” Fayt asked himself.

“Please state your destination.” the voice said again.

Fayt then thought of where he wanted to go, and he imputed his destination. Then a sudden burst of light engulfed Fayt and he was sent to very familiar place in the galaxy. On an Undeveloped Planet, where Fayt’s adventure started after Vanguard, he ended up in a very beautiful kingdom. People greeted Fayt like he was some hero or something, and a girl with short, red hair wearing ninja looking clothes accidentally bumped into him.

“Sorry.” The girl apologized.

Fayt rubbed his head. “It’s alright. Are you ok?” he asked.

The girl looked up and then had this surprised expression on her face.

“Fayt!?” the girl exclaimed.

Fayt looked at the girl and jumped back a little. “Nell???”

“Lady Nell, what’s wrong?” another girl asked from behind Nell.

“It’s nothing Tynave, it’s just someone came and visited us.” Nell replied with a happy smile on her face.

Tynave peeked over Nell’s shoulder and saw Fayt standing there. Then with a surprised look Tynave called for Farleen. Farleen came running and saw Fayt than ran to him and hugged him tightly.

“Fayt, is it really you?” asked Farleen, her grip tightening on Fayt.

Fayt patted her head and smiled calmly. “Yes, it’s me Farleen.”

Nell was enjoying this moment when something came to mind. “Hey Fayt…” she began.

“Yes?” Fayt asked.

“Wasn’t Albel with you?”

Fayt’s expression on his face turned all gloomy and sad like. Nell sensed that something happened, but she didn’t want to know. Maybe some things were better left unsaid, who knows. Anyways Tynave looked around and then turned to Nell.

“Lady Nell, we are behind schedule. We must report to Her Majesty.” she said.

“Ah right, I completely forgot. Farleen, let go of Fayt and go with Tynave to report to Her Majesty. I will be there shortly.” Nell ordered. Farleen released Fayt and bowed before departing. Nell placed her hands on her hips and sighed.

“I’m sorry our meeting is cut short. We’re just so busy lately now that peace is restored throughout our kingdom, and so we’re still rebuilding Arias’s houses that were destroyed.” she said.

“It’s ok.” Fayt calmly answered.

Suddenly the weather in the kingdom began all stormy in an instant. Wind picked up quickly, and thunder crackled in the sky.

“FAYT!!!” a voice bellowed.

Nell and Fayt turned around towards the voice and saw a vicious looking demon in the sky. It was dark so both of them couldn’t see the demon’s face, but when lightning violently lit up the sky; the demon’s face was shown.

“N-Naru…” Fayt weakly said, his body shaking with fear.

“Fayt, who is that person? Do you know her?” Nell asked, drawing her short swords.

All Fayt could was nod since he had a feeling of death course through his body. Naru smiled evilly at Fayt and tried to attack him, but Nell intervened and blocked her.

“TROUBLESOME WENCH!! HOW DARE YOU INTERFER!?” Naru bellowed sending bolts of lightning down upon Nell.

Nell dodged all the bolts, but she was distracted so she couldn’t protect Fayt. Instead she casted some of her symbology she learned throughout her journey with Fayt, and when the symbology was done being cast, Nell ran to Fayt’s side and stared angrily at him.

“Fayt, what’s the matter with you?” she asked, concerned about him.

“She’s going to…kill me…” Fayt replied, shaking uncontrollably. He was holding the orb he had found within the sanctuary, and Nell questioned about it.

“What’s that orb?”

“That orb is the demons central point of power. Destroy the orb, you destroy all demons. Use the orb to your liking, and well, it depends on your actions taken.” said Naru from behind Nell.

Nell turned around, only to be thrown away from Fayt. Slamming hard into the ground, Nell released a pained yelp, but Fayt still remained shaking in his place. Naru calmly walked over to him and gently stroked his face, but had this sad look in her eyes.

“I am sorry Fayt, I never meant for all of this to happen you. That orb you are holding is something not to be held in human hands. Give me that orb Fayt.” Naru said, in a sad tone.

Still stroking his face, Naru was slowly reaching down to the orb. Fayt was like in a trance, and the pupils in his eyes were gone, so if you looked at his face it seemed like he was hypnotized. Naru then whispered something in Fayt’s ear.

“Release the orb.” she whispered.

Fayt obeyed the command and let go of the orb into Naru’s hand.

“Yes, the Orb of Hakuri, finally. After all these years searching in the sanctuary for this, I finally have it. Now I can begin the plans of our demon brethren and carry out what should have been done years ago.” Naru said, holding the orb close to her. She then kissed Fayt on the cheek and smiled. “Thank you for your help Fayt. I shall allow you to live for awhile longer.”

Fayt snapped out of his trance and shook his head.

“Ugh, what…happened?” he asked. He looked up and saw Naru by him and backed away.

“Hehehehe, do not worry Fayt. I gave you allowance to live longer.” Naru chuckled. She got up and looked down upon him.

Suddenly Nell tried to attack Naru from behind, but Naru suddenly vanished and grabbed Nell by the throat as she appeared behind her. Struggling to get free, Nell began to breathe heavily as Naru had a look of disgust on her face.

“You though, don’t need to live.” Naru said, tightening her grip.

Nell was breathing even harder and still struggling, making things harder for her.

“Nell, stop struggling! You’re making Naru tighten her grip!” Fayt exclaimed.

Naru began laughing as Nell opened one eye to look at Fayt, with a hopeless look in her eye. Fayt got up and drew his sword and pointed it at Naru.

“Release her.” he demanded.

Naru looked at him and grinned. “Barking orders are you? I think not!”

Tightening her grip even more, Nell looked like she began to stop breathing, and Fayt became worried.

“Nell, don’t die! Don’t you wanna see Albel again!?” Fayt called to her.

‘Albel…?’ Nell thought to herself. She opened her eyes and looked at the sky.

“Wench, you are not dead yet?” Naru asked looking at Nell.

Fayt saw that Nell opened her eyes, and so he sighed in relief. “Nell, you have to fight back. If you don’t, you’ll die! Don’t you wanna see everyone again? Cliff, Maria, Mirage, Sophia, Albel?” Fayt asked.

“Everyone…” Nell softly said.

Suddenly Naru began to sense something foul, so she looked at Nell. “You fool, what are you planning!?”

Then she looked at Fayt, who was casting symbology. Suddenly a boulder appeared over Nell and Naru’s head, and started to crumble down upon them.

“NELL, NOW!!!” Fayt shouted.

Nell suddenly vanished out of the grasp and from a great distant used one of her abilities called “Lightning Chain,” where lightning shot out of one of her short swords and repeatedly struck Naru. Fayt kept casting symbology to keep Naru in place, as Nell kept using her abilities. Soon after Naru fell to her knees and said something.

“Being sneaky eh? Well I guess I should of expected that. Fine. You guys win for now, but I will be back.” Naru vanished and soon the stormy weather cleared and peace was returned yet again.

Re: Star Ocean 3 fanfic: Anywhere But Home

Chapter 20 The Relic

Panting so heavily, Albel was almost asleep at the table he was at. Both him and Kasuke succeeded in defeating the endless army of demons, but now they couldn't sleep, no matter how hard they tried. They worried that another attack on the town could happen anytime if they were to fall asleep. Staring out the window of the inn intently, Kasuke slowly ate her ramen. Albel had his head rested down on the table, trying to catch a few Z's.

"Hey...fool." Albel said to Kasuke.

"What?" asked Kasuke still staring out the window and eating her ramen.

"These demons. Any idea why they were--"

"As I've said before, no, I don't. Ask me that one more time and I swear I'll rip your tongue outta your mouth."

Albel raised his head and growled at Kasuke. He looked like a complete mess. He had bags under his eyes, his hair was all messed up and frizzy, and he was dirty and covered in bruises. Kasuke though still looked perfectly fine.

"Dammit, I need to sleep!" Albel complained.

"Then go to bed. If any demons tried to attack the town again I can handle them." said Kasuke placing her bowl off to the side.

"Are you saying I'll just be in your way?" Albel scowled as he asked that.

Kasuke then looked at Albel and glared. "Simply put, yes."

"I see. Well if that's what you think then I will go to bed." Albel got up from the table and went upstairs to the bedrooms. Kasuke then went back to staring intently out the window.

Up in the bedrooms, Albel grabbed some clothes and headed to the bathroom to take his shower. After he took his shirt off he looked at himself in the mirror and sighed from looking at his claw.

"Father..." he said.

After that he continued to get undress and took his shower. Steam filled the bathroom as Albel opened the shower door and stepped out, then he wrapped a towel around his waist and cleaned the steam off the mirror. Seeing himself with his hair down completely he decided to leave it that way after getting dried off and after he brushed his 2 colored hair. Picking up his clothes and the shackle he normally wore around his neck, Albel left the bathroom and back to the bedroom.

Sitting on the bed he noticed something strange sitting on a nearby table. Carefully picking up the object he looked at it. Soon after Kasuke came in the room. Albel looked up and glared at her.

"What?" he bitterly asked.

"I'm just coming up here to say good-bye." Kasuke answered.

Albel became shocked. "Why?"

"I just orders from HQ to return for a new assignment. It seems my uses are gonna be for something else. Sorry I can't stay. It was fun hanging around..." Kasuke stopped talking as she looked down at the object Albel held in his hands.

"Oh, what is this thing?" asked Albel, confused at the object.

Kasuke ran over to Albel's side and took the object from his hands.

"Hey!" Albel exclaimed. "What's wrong with you?"

"This object....do you have any idea what this is?" Kasuke asked.

Albel shook his head, and Kasuke's eyes sparkled at the object. Albel looked at her with a weird expression on his face.

"What is that?" Albel asked getting annoyed by it.

Kasuke looked at him with an expression saying, "How can you not know what this is?" Albel still had his normal expression on his face.

"It's the Relic." Kasuke answered finally.

"The... Relic?" Albel skeptically asked.

"Yep. My people have been endlessly searching the galaxy for this. It's of great importance to us." Kasuke explained.

"?"

"Here, I'll explain. Every race in this galaxy has an orb allowing that race to extist. The human orb's called 'Humuns', Elicoorians like yourself has an orb called 'Elicy', Klausians orb, 'Klias', Demons, 'Hakuri', etc. If the orbs were destroyed the race would cease to exist, and a race would dominate the race that was destroyed. If the all the orbs were used at once, it'd cause the Final Apocalypse, causing this universe's destruction. But if we Judgement Assassins collected all the orbs we could prevent anything from happening. You follow me?" asked Kasuke.

From the look on Albel's face his brain must of fried. All Kasuke did was sigh.

"You'll understand sooner or later."

"So hold on. What's this Relic for?"

Kasuke smiled. "For finding the orbs."

"So you plan on using this Relic to track orbs?" Albel asked.

Kasuke nodded.

"How boring."

Suddenly something started beeping on Kasuke, so she held the thing in her hands. Her eyes quickly scanned the screen then looked at Albel and smiled again.

"Orders from HQ." she said.

"Again? So what did they order now?"

".....To stay with you and collect the orbs along the way."

Albel stared at her then sighed. Running his fingers through his long, black and blond hair, he fell back onto the bed's pillows.

"Well, I guess we have another job to do." he said looking at the ceiling.

"Yep." said Kasuke still smiling. "We can start this mission 2 days from now. I have a feeling the demons aren't done paying this town a visit."

"I agree." Albel sighed.

"Well, I'll leave so you can get some sleep. Good night Albel." Kasuke left the room.

"Good night, Kasuke." Albel said as well.

After Kasuke shut the door Albel closed his eyes and was finally able to go to sleep.
