Well, less than an hour until my birthday, and I'd rather end this argument before the clock strikes midnight!

I feel incest is wrong because there is an evident manifestation of moral degeneration--of moral decay--in those who partake in it. Our ability to feel emotions is what separates us from animals. If some animals (that are comparably less logical and rational than we human beings are, and AREN'T raised in a society where what is right and wrong is pretty clearly defined), are able to abstain from having sex with their kin, there is no reason whatsoever that we as cultivated human beings living in the 21st century should not be able to do the same. There is a reason for which murderers are sent to jail and under certain circumstances given the death penalty. There is a reason for which pedophiles are prosecuted. There is a reason for which perjury is punishable by impeachment. The people who commit such acts are not condemned solely because what they did was logically reprehensible. They are condemned because their crime defies what we, as emotional human beings, conjecture to be right and proper.

A very smart man once said that some truths are self-evident. I also believe that morality to a certain extent is also self-evident. Crossing the boundary between what was naturally intended to be kin and what was naturally intended to be a romantic partnership screams trouble to me no matter how I look at it. It's unconventional. And you'd think that in the 21st century, in which you have transgenders, homosexuals, interracial couples, and people of all walks of life co-existing on what we call the planet Earth, unconventionality wouldn't be an issue. THIS is what makes me think that certain moral ethics are not easily surmounted.

Whether or not you can soundly argue for or against pedophilia doesn't change the fact that it bothers people when they hear about it. It bothers people because pedophilia is an emotionally unsettling topic to discuss for most people. Likewise, the idea of being together with a family member will produce similar effects, because, to most people, it is unfathomable.

I'll admit, there isn't much that one who is against incest can say to support his or her stance. The whole family issue was the best that I could come up with. Either way, when I truly think about the act of incest, I get a disgusting lurching feeling in the pit of my stomach. That reassures me that it's wrong. I don't think there is enough sound evidence to prove whether incest is detrimental to a family or not. But the fact that people aren't willing to undergo such studies makes me believe that it's something of a universal moral code that incest is wrong.

You can feel free to respond to this. There are points that you've outwitted me on, and I've come to the point in this argument where I'm explaining human emotions to support that incest is immoral. I've explained why I think it is irrational to pursue relations with family members, but the biggest (and least logical, yet most real) support to my argument relies on the human spirit. And probably the instant you bring emotions into a debate, you've lost.

So this is me accepting my defeat. Good job Miburo, you've stumped me.

While I can't help to see the irony in you quoting from the phrase "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." to justify your opinion that incest is morally wrong; I'm glad that we could come to a mutually agreeable understanding.

And for the record, I believe that the stance that you just presented is perfectly justifiable if applied to a strictly personal level. Anyway, good game. Happy Birthday. : )

My stance on Incest is that to me, it is morally wrong but this is America, so we have to let people do what they wish as long as its not breaking the law or harming others. I would think Legally incest would be fine (may be wrong, never know with the laws they make nowadays) so it basically comes down to the moral issue, which every person defines for him or herself.
