In the upcoming chapters I'm just hoping that the other captains have the decency to explain that the only reason hey didn't use their bankai's was because they knew there would be no point as they were under kyoka suigetsu's affect.

Why they didn't use them against the espada, the only logical explanation kubo can come up with is that there were only 3 espada to fight! And that little White haired git of a captain originally said if aizen had (11? Or more) than soul society was doomed.
So in other words they thought they didn't need to as they had superiority in numbers.
