What is a flame?

Hello,

I am a new member to this board, recently I made a thread with copy and pasted material. It seems it got somewhat of a reaction out of some of the members, which was really not my intention.

My question has to do with two members. One of which called me a "noob" and was banned, as "noob" is apparently a flame. However, When Lily229 called me a "nincompoop", an equally derogatory, offensive and harmless "flame", she received no punishment. I was wondering what a flame was, so I tooka gander at the rules, they claimed:

I am new, but i have lurked for a few days and found that Lily229 was once a mod, is well liked by many people here and has flamed before. I do nto mean to question the authority of the wonderful moderators of NarutoLounge, but something is not adding up.

Quit whining
1, the mods dont have favoritism
2, Nincompoop is not a flame and if she were to get banned then everyone would be up in arms
3, Dont start crap like this or it will end in more troll wars

Hello TooKaiPai,

I agree with everything you said, however, I am pointing out the fault in their flame policy. If Nincompoop is not a flame, why is noob?

Based off all flame infractions that I've seen administered on this site, a flame is directly calling someone a name. So calling someone a nincompoop (dictionary definition: a fool) should be considered a flame. Pretty sure so is calling someone a poo-poo head, buttface, turd burgler, etc.

So what you are saying is that and insult to a member, directly, is a flame. That would mean we are fine if we type, "All of your comments are fucking retarded" but not if we say "You are a noob"?

This seems a bit ridiculous :\

"Noob" is a 'net creation generally viewed as derogatory, and when used correctly along with pragmatic, can be considered as flame, explaining the ban. I would assume there is variance on a case-by-case basis as well.

As for "nincompoop", the definition used colloquially has come to be somewhat synonymous with "silly", which is much less offensive than something outright as "idiot", "retard", and likewise.

...Or so I'd imagine.

A flame is any term used in a derogatory manner against another member on the site. I don't know what happened between you and Lily, but if Shino found nothing to be wrong with it; and I believe he was in that thread at the time; then I can't go over his head.

Well, my definition of a flame is a personal insult to someone else. Calling someone's comments stupid as shit would actually be personally insulting the poster. It's like calling someone's child stupid, or saying someone's art looks like shit.

Yet, single fucking personal insults should not constitute an instant week ban, like to does here.

And here, flaming only applies to name calling rather than malice in general.

Unless of course in the situation that you might use a racial slur, that indeed may go punished. Beside that, swearing at oneself hasn't been contrary to any proper forum etiquette that I've witnessed on any board.
