I, Freshgrease, hereby retire as super moderator of Naruto Lounge to be demoted to a regular member. I've been a member of NL for nearly all of its existence, and have been a moderator for nearly all of my time here (April 2005 on). Since then I have seen many phases of NL. From the times when Naruto and Bleach remained king...to the era of "fight teh power."

Back in the early stages of my moderator status, I was a bit more cautious of my words and the situation at hand. I was more reserved back then, and that is why I had become a mod. I had no quest for power or desire to get back at members. I earnestly wanted to help people, and I could argue better that I can now to solve a problem instead of banning and infracting. Months grew to years, events happened, and a new breed of members came in.

Long since has this forum been a forum for which I came. Naruto, Bleach, and anime are a small minority in the topics and concentration in this current state of the forum. Now, the vast majority of the user base is bitching senselessly over "fascism" in the administration. I do, however, place most of the blame of the "fascism" on myself. You see, I have never been the kind of person to reciprocate my personality effectively over the internet (especially in an argument). I am known throughout my community as being a calm and clear thinker, but evidence shows differently on the internet. It is my inability to replicate my personality on the internet, along with the power and respect of being a senior moderator of many years, that eventually led to me forgetting who I was and what I wanted to do.

There is a saying. "Power Corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely". I have great power in which to tear this forum apart if I wanted to. I began noticing last year (or was it that last April Fools joke SHino played on me...?) that my arguments made little logical sense and I began to not fall into the right decision process over an infraction (as in I didn't check if the severity of a flame was great or if it was well deserved.) In a sense, I didn't act accordingly to my beliefs or responsibilities. I've made many mistakes as a result to this electronic personality flaw, and my actions have embarrassed both the professionalism of the staff and given a great part to the backbone of the movement that is tearing this forum apart.

I blame nobody but myself, and with what little dignity I have for my position and myself I wish to return to the position that allowed me to benefit this forum.

I want this forum to survive and grow. It is dying to inactivity, a decentralized subject matter, moderators like me, the lack of respect the majority of members have towards the staff, inability of the staff to solve the problem by either being too lenient or banning too much, and members who do nothing but segregate and harass other members for fun. This shit has to stop. No new members want to come join a forum where the main topic of discussion is how unfair the mods are or random bullshit threads. I look at other forums such as NarutoFan and National-anime and wonder what when wrong with us. I wanted to change NL for the better, but I ended up doing the exact opposite.

There needs to be change, organization, respect on both sides of the table, new layouts, forum features or external forum related stuff (radio shows, interviews of anme people, a team of people to keep up to date with the latest greatest anime, etc.).

I know the majority, including the staff, are going to be like "thank God he is gone" or "Good riddance." I don't want any sympathy, I just want this forum to dig itself up from the failure it is becoming to live several more years. I love this forum and every member in it. No matter how we may quarrel, I feel as if we are a family. I cannot hate one member or another member for this reason, even Miburo. I may get angry, but never will I strike a member of my family as to kill them. For that reason, to prevent myself of doing something I will regret to further hurt this family, I resign and retire. I may pop in and out, but I have rarely been a regular member to taste such sweet innocence and wish to keep what little respect a tiny fraction of the members here have for me.

I'll do the demotion. You may think of yourself as a bad mod, but I think otherwise.

I do agree about the "more features" part, nl does need to be pimped out It's still to basic. lol.
