But uh, Sakura did say it was her lifetime wish. So I don't know why its surprising at all.

That would also be the reason why Im not surprised Naruto still wants to save Sasuke...because he made the "promise of a lifetime" to Sakura on top of the fact the bond that Naruto n Sasuke share is like that of brothers( or so what Sakura told Sai) which we obviously see during the "rescue sasuke" arc of the story.

She put a false smile on so SHE could be the one to punch Sai. She didn't want Naruto to get to do it. She wanted to do it herself. Then, after, she let out all of her hate, leading to the scowl we saw.

She ALREADY loves Sasuke, and don't make assumptions, especially ones that aren't based on any evidence.

Seriously. Sakura hasn't expressed anyting remotely like that.

Even when Naruto went 4-tails, and she saw what was becoming of him, she says "Please, stop it, I'll save Sasuke myself! So you don't have to-"

Not a word of going back. Or giving up. And after the reunion, despite crying herself she says, "I'm here too...Tears wont bring him back. We're going to do it together." Or someting along those lines.

Even if Sakura were falling out of romantic love with Sasuke, she'd still be dead set on saving him.

Nah . . . people know about the reuionion cuz the anime used it as a prolog. You're just adding small details to that.

In fact, you could say that that prolog way of doing things and my own impatience is what prompted me to read the manga. However, I still feel the anime adds certain things which are important, but aren't fully developed until animated AND voice acted properly.

Sakura's almost desperate concern for Naruto as she finally sees what becomes of him when the kyubbi takes control . . . we have a taste and I'm really looking forward to seeing that develop.

Anyway, its what Sakura KEEPS from Naruto that I think is more interesting. (I think I'm being cryptic enough not to give anything away)

Sakura obviously does love him, in some form at least. It's been basically foretold by Yamato, I mean I dont think Kishi would have cut Yamato off if he was telling her that he knew about her friendly feelings for Naruto. So it's gotta be something deeper than friendship.

She does have some affection to him in Shipuuden, that and the fact that she has pretty much gotten over her crush on Sasuke means that there is a pretty decent chance that she'll fall for Naruto.

Well, her feelings for Sasuke are a bit beyond a crush at this point, too. But what I think you mean is . . . If Sasuke never loves her the way she would like, that will in the end be OK with her. Just as long as he is safe and "back in the light," Sakura will be happy.

Her feelings for Naruto on the other hand are still evolving, and she doesn't really quite conciously grasp it yet - that's why the coming conversation with Yamato is going to be so important (although brief).

I tend to think Naruto is more likely to return those feelings, but I will admit (nods to NaruHina fans, but in a slightly disgruntled manner) Hinata does factor into the equation.

Really, show me evidence of her "getting over her crush" which is very arguably full blown love and not just a mere crush. In fact, it is easier to argue that it is love than it is just a crush.

She would definitely not be happy, but I GUESS she would be ok, but then she would end up like Tsunade. Who wants that?

Her feelings for Naruto really don't fall under "love" besides strong bonds of filial love. They are close friends that have fought by each others side for a long time. Why can't she show some affection for him without it being considered love? And what conversation with Yamato?

but one of them has had a stong attraction to the other for that entire time -and the other hides any attraction "plays hard to get" just because she can, but also because she denies her own feelings.

You're right - she could be affectionate without having to be in "love"
But in context of the story, from the flirting moments (and Sakura has a strange way of flirting believe me, by nearly knocking the flirt-ee unconcious)
to the more serious ones like what is about to happen in the anime - it becomes more than plutonic.

Yeah . . they are, and that kind of thing tends to develop into a lot more, and I get the feeling it is. That doesn't mean anything will come of it.

Hell I'm married - got the love of my life with me all the time. But there were old flames that I still have feelings for, but would never act upon, and every once in a while someone new will come along into my life (which is well traveled) and they may inrtuigue me to no end - to the point where I might have developed strong feelings for them, but could not allow myself to do so - because I was already promised. Perhaps the same situation for Sakura, perhaps not. We'll just have to wait and see.
