Say i want to make a movie.
ok. this summer me and my friends were thinking about making a movie. like, with a Videocamera. not anything like Cloverfield but say i wanted to make like a fighting movie. what would we need to do? (we're using swords and all that. and magic.) so how are we going to make all this happen? i don't know how to edit them on the Computer but i was just wondering how you make a movie like that.

Re: Say i want to make a movie.
For the fighting parts, I'd assume you'd need to choreograph the fights.
Sword play shouldn't be too hard.

Re: Say i want to make a movie.
Hm, you're probably gonna need a video editing program. I think Macs are good for that kind of stuff. Also, like Mikey said, choreograph the fights. Don't just have the actors running in there swinging swords and throwing punches. Someone might get hurt (then again, that could be good entertainment, too). Write a good script, and make sure you have places where you can film without getting in trouble or have any interference from other people.

Re: Say i want to make a movie.
well, that's going to be kinda hard. you see, my grandparents own a school in our town and it has a big baseball field. i was thinking on using that and going around the school. and i'm still writing the play. this summer though we'll work on the sword fights. choreographing them. but will windows work for the movie editing thing? and what about the magic? how are we going to insert that into our movie?
and all the scenes. oh man, this is going to be hard. Last edited by emerald69; 02-24-2008 at 10:21 PM. |

Re: Say i want to make a movie.
Take some media courses in school?
And don't listen to these guys. Choreographed fights always look lame. Definitely just run at each other swinging swords and shit. That'd be awesome, I'd actually watch that. : ) Edit: For the magic, just light tennis balls that were dipped in gasoline on fire and throw them at each other. Oh! Use a goalie lacrosse stick to lob 80 flaming tennis balls at a dude. Damn, this movie is going to rule. |

Get a good video editing program. Nothing like Windows Movie Maker or any of that shit. A good one.

Re: Say i want to make a movie.
Well...
First make sure you have a good camera, one that can take a good video and make sure you have lots of CD's, tapes, GB's, etc. because you will screw up, trust me. If you are doing this on a Hard Drive then buy an external hard drive so that you can make copies and back-up everything you have recorded and stuff. Second, make sure you finish the script because if you don't... well you will rush through everything and make a mess of it. Third, you can't go wrong with good actors, if they go "Uhh", "Umm", "Ahh" and it's not in the script then you might have to retake the scene several times. Make sure the actors know their lines at least the first half of the script. If they don't then you might have to make giant flash cards but then they will face the below the camera and not it the right position. Fourth, you can either choreograph or just go random on the fighting scenes. If you are going with the latter then have them wear mouthguards, their like 5 bucks at Academy. They could wear shinguards under their jeans. I think they have thin ones that offer half the protection for both the mouth and shinguards. If you are going to choreograph the scenes then have them act it all out SEVERAL times in slow motion so that they can get the fill of it. Then after they get it then let them speed up gradually then they can go at it full speed without missing a beat. Next, well Adobe After Effects rocks for making videos, that is if you have the money or other stuff..... If you have a Mac then you are all set, or you could sneak into the Apple Store and say you are testing their computers! But if you get a Mac you are saving yourself time since it comes with iMovie, I used it and it's very fluid and works with Pros and Amateurs and even people using it for the first time. Windows Movie Maker will not do much for you, it's like the very, very, very, very, basic starter kit for movie making. For this then you better use Adobe After Effects or get a Mac and use iMovie. Also make sure that the swords don't look really fake, otherwise then that would really make the movie suck. I don't know what to say about the magic part... After Effects is your best bet. Baseball field? Sounds pretty cool to me. |

Re: Say i want to make a movie.
i don't think i'll be able to have the "flaming tennis balls." that would be kinda dangerous. and yeah, i don't know if we'll choreograph it or not. i'm still deciding. but, yeah. when the movie is posted on You-Tube i'll let everyone know. k?
but, yeah. i hope it'll be a good movie. |

No flaming tennis balls? Boo!
At least do the backyard boxing...Yo, but dip the gloves in gasoline and light them on fire first. Oh shit, that'd look sweet. |

Re: Say i want to make a movie.
Since you aren't getting overly complicated, you want a basic editor. Get either Adobe Premiere or iMovie. Next, learn to use it. Work out your movie, film it, and edit it. Yaaay!
