Re: Naruto Pairings FC
I was under the impression Rin was dead, only because Kakashi says ALL his old friends are dead. So . . . not the smex. Stupid Ninja's having a tendency to die thing.

Re: Naruto Pairings FC
Lol! That's almost as bad as the Sakura - Sasori puppet joke . . .
![]() Some interesting stuff here. http://japanese.about.com/gi/dynamic...98/Dating.html If you guys are expecting something like a kiss to prove once and for all the love between two characters . . . the likelyhood is small. from http://www.japanvisitor.com/index.php?cID=365&pID=387 In some countries of the world, notably France, you see it everywhere. Everybody is doing it. Parents do it to their children and also to each other. Women do it to women, and men to men. Even politicians do it publicly. In Japan on the other hand, it is rarely done in public, and if it is it is likely to be met with disapproval or even outrage. What we are talking about here is kissing, something that many cultures consider to be an expression of friendship and affection, whereas in Japan it has primarily only one connotation… sex! Kissing in Japan is part of foreplay, and therefore should only take place in private. In fact public kissing was made illegal in the 1920’s and the law was not rescinded until the occupation of 1945. Many Japanese consider kissing to be an import from the West, but an examination of shunga (Edo period pornographic prints) reveals plenty of images of couples kissing during and prior to the act of sex. However with the increasing popularity of Western-style weddings in Japan, it is becoming more common for the groom to kiss the bride at the end of the ceremony, but the tradition of other male members of the wedding party kissing the bride has not taken hold at all. In the movies kissing is no longer edited out; prior to 1945 kissing scenes in imported Hollywood movies ended up on the cutting room floor, and the first kiss in a Japanese movie, in the 1946 movie Hatachi no Seishun, caused a sensation in the press not dissimilar to the recent hullabaloo in the U.S. over Janet Jackson’s prime-time nipple exposure. In fact, the nipple-incident would not have raised an eyebrow in pre-war Japan. When it was proposed in 1930 to exhibit Rodin’s celebrated sculpture “The Kiss” in Tokyo, the authorities had no problem with the nudity of the figures, but insisted that the heads be covered up. The French refused at that time, but now “The Kiss” is on display at the Museum of Western Art in Tokyo with no covering up at all. So, things have changed, but still there remains the idea that kissing is not really “Japanese”, as evidenced by the fact that while the Japanese language has a word for kiss, seppun, it is rarely used, the English derived word kissu being preferred as by using a foreign word it somehow sanitizes and distances the act from what is truly Japanese.

Re: Naruto Pairings FC
Wow, if that's how extreme a kiss is, then how did it manage for Sakura to ask for a kiss from Sasuke, who was Naruto, and Naruto actually ablige? I don't doubt your sources, but if the connotation is sex, then a Naruto almost abliging a kiss would, to me, not indicate that in the same way.

Re: Naruto Pairings FC
Well, if you notice, it seems the Japanese are more refined and... uptight? (by my standards anyway XD) about romantic relationships and especially the sphere of sex in real life interaction. But in anime, it seems they are less inclined to hold back. I think we can all agree we've seen anime characters kiss before. lol and well, there's art out there that depicts far more. And there is sex in manga. Ayashi no Ceres by Yuu Watasu is a good example of that and that's a shoujo series.
Its funny cause this article did remind me of DBZ, where Goku survives his heart disease and him and ChiChi kiss - but we only get to see their feet and someone (master roshi i think) blush. I remember being disappointed by that in middle school. lol But that was really fun to read, thanks for sharing it HS! I have heard the word 'kissu' used before, too.

Re: Naruto Pairings FC
I believe that that notion is rather old-fashioned by now, especially since Western culture has seeped in. If it were to happen in the storyline, I don't think it would carry that sort of connotation.

Re: Naruto Pairings FC
Things might have changed a bit, but I remember reading something recently stating that as far as love goes, neither the male or female dont really show affection in public.
Well as far as couples go, I think making out without "love" is more common. I have to find the article somewhere... |

Re: Naruto Pairings FC
Yeah, they are less open about showing affection. At least from what I've gathered.

I think its cool that you guys like to talk about romance ~ I know this is a Naruto pairings fanclub, but I was curious if any of you were fans of other pairings from different anime? I used to be really big on the Gundam Seed/Destiny pairings, like, MwuMurr and ShinStel. I've read a few VegBul fics. Actually, the best fanfic I ever read was centered on them. This one author was really talented, Lisalu was her name I think. In some ways, I prefered what she had done with the characters to what the actual series did. XD So yah, just curious. ^^

Re: Naruto Pairings FC
I've been reading a few other mangas aside from Naruto, so I guess I'll just list them down.
Bleach - I'm a supporter of Ichigo/Rukia. One Piece - I dont really have any at this moment. Neon Genesis Evangelion Gakuen Datenroku - If Shinji ends up with either Asuka or Rei then I'm satisfied. ^_^ Gantz - I like to think that Reika and Kurono will end up together, but with Kurono dead at the moment it might be a while before that happens. Ontop of the fact that he's got a messed up logic with the girls thats influenced him... Inuyasha - ....I'm just reading it to see how it'll end...Seriously >_> cause I remember watching the show way back when it was actually good, and the manga was only intended to be like 100 chapters. Now i just recently picked up on it again cause it's almost over. As far as pairings go, I always liked Sango and the perverted monk guy. Bitter Virgin - Akiawa and Suwa The Getbackers - I guess Natsumi and Ginji and thats all the recent mangas that I can think of that I've been reading lately Last edited by ralatone; 04-06-2008 at 10:56 PM. |

Re: Naruto Pairings FC
Inuyasha - My favorite was Sango/Miroku too. Sango is my favorite character, so at times I would get irritated with Miroku... lol... and I ventured into alternative pairings like InuSan and SessSan. lolz I liked a few moments between InuKag too. I just never really liked Kagome or Kikyo that much. And I've got all the episodes too, but after I heard how the anime ended, I lost the motivation to finish it. I want to pick the manga back up one day.
Blood + - SayaHagi <3 and Kai with anyone, espsecially Irene. You guys should check that show out if you haven't, it was really good. I liked how Hagi was so loyal to Saya, it was a nice change to see the guy display such devotion as a consistent character trait. Irene and Kai can't actually work since... well, no spoilers, but I just really loved their interaction. Code Geass - LeloCC, SuzaEuph, LeloEuph, LeloShir... xD Also a really good show. The art is a little weird, but I got used to it and now I really like it. Bleach - I'm very far behind in this series, but I remember I liked Rukia/Ichigo and Ishida/Hime, but I don't mind what I've seen/read about Ichi/Hime and RenRukia. I don't think I'd mind how those turn out. I saw Orihime's confession (dled the episode even though I was like thirty behind it XD) and I thought she was just so sweet and lovely. And that phrase, 'if I could live five lives, I'd want to fall in love with the same person every time', is just an awwwww moment. GSD - I like so many pairings it would really take forever to discuss them all. lmao. there are moar... x3 /pairing fan to the core.
