A Kirin-related theory.....

I was just randomly thinking about how powerful Sasuke's Kirin really is.

Then I remembered something. It's been said a number of times that Kakashi used Chidori to cut a bolt of lightning in half (Kirin = bolt of lightning).

So if Chidori can split Kirin, that must mean Rasengan is also capable of doing so also, to say the least, considering Rasengan is more powerful (unless the different elemental traits make a difference).

So if those lower level moves can defer Kirin to that extent, obviously it pales in comparison to the power of Rasenshuriken, which can cancel out Kirin altogether or perhaps even reflect it.

But, of course, none of this makes a difference if the opponent isn't expecting Kirin or knows how it works.

Thoughts? (sorry if any of this has been mentioned before)

Re: A Kirin-related theory.....

well i think raikiri could cut kirin, but i doubt rasengan could since it isnt a nature type jutsu, just mass chakra, but i dont think kakashi or naruto would have enough time to realise wat was hapening and prep themselves to cut kirin, since it happens in 1/1000th of a sec

Re: A Kirin-related theory.....

Not sure if it could "split" it, but maybe counter, hard to say. The user would have to be Minato or Jiraiya though, as Naruto has big problems hitting people with it. Why would you want to try and split it though And why would anyone pull a rasengan if lightning strikes?

Re: A Kirin-related theory.....

I believe the reason Raikiri can split a lightning bolt can be attributed to the speed needed to use it and the fact that it is a piercing attack (which allows the spliting)

Rasengan (please correct as I'm sure there are some inaccuracies) is a power move that works by spinning the chakra. In theory if kirin hit a rasengan, the lightning bolt would be scattered all around due to the fast spinning condensed chakra. Also as a Kirin vs. Rasengan only since there is no wind element one cannot say kirin would necessarily be stopped. A fuuton rasengan on the contrary should be able to stop kirin according to Kishi's hierarchy of elements.

But as Katon & Trondah both said, the speed of kirin and the question of why to use a rasengan against lightning go against the theory.

Re: A Kirin-related theory.....

Yes, Raikiri is said to be able to cut lightning, and wind does counter lightning. But there is a difference between pure energy lightning and chakra lightning. If wind chakra could counter actual lightning, it has yet to be said or proved. And as for Raikiri, like i said, Kakashi said that it could cut lightning, but i wonder how it would do againist that much condensed, molded, and controled lightning. The lightning that i think of when Kakashi talks about cutting it, is the wild one strike from a single bolt, not the colaberation of that much power. I wonder what would happen.

Re: A Kirin-related theory.....

Yeah, that's true. Kirin is not your normal thunder bolt, it's much more powerful than that. Cutting through that sounds crazy. Rasengan? Who knows.

Re: A Kirin-related theory.....

if u have a rs and the kirin just happened to hit the rs maybe but due to the speed of kirin and the prep for the jutsu(having to shoot the dragons into the air to heat it up). i don't see rs spliting it due to that but it the sercumstanses r right maybe but if not then no.

Re: A Kirin-related theory.....

I would love to know the story behind Kakashi's lightning bolt split. Maybe Kishi will show it to us as Kakashi is getting some screen time this year. His character doesn't get the respect he deserves around here I think, considering his resume.

Re: A Kirin-related theory.....

Well granted, Kakashi didn't say his Raikiri can cut chakra induced lighting, he meant the real thing. Sasuke has some lighting chakra properties because he can control it, but it's still natural lighting. Kakashi can cut it, no problem.

I have a question. Like we are dicussing, Kakashi supposedly cut lightning with Raikiri, hence the name. But would it actually be possible for him to cut raw lightning, with its speed? As we have seen in the chapter before last, Lightning moves faster than the speed of sound, of course. So did Kakashi go around during a thunderstorm looking for a lightning bolt to cut, cause i doubt he would be fast enough to perform the handseals and focus the chakra to cut a random bolt that is about to strike him. And even if he went around looking for a bolt to cut, lightning still moves faster than the speed of sound, which i am pretty sure Kakashi can't. It had to be lightning from chakra.

Well, maybe he created a lighting storm. With his elements, he can start one. The strength compared to Sasuke is debatable, but we don't even know if you can slow down lighting, even if it's chakra induced. I haven't seen anyone create lighting and having the ability to throw it from his or her hands. We have only seen one way how a nin can create a lighting storm and naturally started lighting storms. And in either case, they move at the speed of sound. Kakashi must have either got lucky (via naturally cause) or he created his own storm and cut his own lighting (which is still a case of luck to not only be in the right place, but having the strength and luck factor for his move to cut lighting w/o a test case.)

We have seen artificial lightning lauched once before. The thunder phantom of Kakuzu's shot lightning and tried to hit Chouji and Ino. From the looks of it, 9it didn't move anywhere near as fast as natural lightning. That would be the only way that Kakashi would be fast enough to cut it. Even if he got lucky in a real storm, he would have to already be in stance with his hand up in the sky like a lightning rod. He wouldn't have time to raise his hand to the sky once he sees a real bolt, it would be to late.
