People think Madara is lying. Well I'm here telling you now he may have lied a little (referring to the nine tails attack 15 years ago). However when concerning Itachi he's being truthful. Itachi was in fact a double agent. Originally sent to Anbu by Fugaku to spy on Konoha. This post is going to attempt to show proof in Sasuke's flashbacks while fighting Naruto. I came across this info while looking for an idea for my latest sig project. Anyway here's your proof...

220-2: An example of brotherly bonds. Just to show Itachi actually giving a crap about his brother.

220-8: Another example of the bond these two brothers shared. Itachi smiling a very rare thing in this manga. This smile shows Itachi enjoying his time with Sasuke.

220-11: Itachi's explanation of the Uchiha's role within the village.

Itachi:Almost all of of us(Uchiha) are working for the first division of the force and participating in keeping order of the village.

This relates back to Madara's mention of Uchiha's role within Konoha & how they were segregated from the rest of Konoha.

220-16:This pic shows Fugaku's mention of Itachi joining Anbu. If you look you'll notice anger in Itachi's eyes as Fukago actives Sharingan in response. This is a sign of tension between father & son. Fukago's look is that of a threatening one.

Fugaku: Do you understand?

This goes back to Madara's words about Itachi being sent to Anbu to spy on Konoha.

220-17 & 220-18:Another sign that Itachi did in fact care about Sasuke. Itachi wanted someone from the family there for Sasuke's entrance ceremony into the ninja academy. Itachi was even willing to put aside his mission because there father had intended to go on a mission with Itachi.

221-3: At the entrance ceremony Fugaku looks down when Sarutobi enters the area. Showing Fugaku doesn't think highly of his Hokage. Which relates back to how Fugaku lead the Uchiha rebellion.

221-8:A secret meeting between Fugaku & Itachi.

221-14:Another secret meeting this time it's Itachi with both his mother & father. Showing her involvement in the secret talks to conspire against Konoha.

Fugaku:You don't understand where your position is...

A sign of friction between Fugaku & Itachi.

221-15: in that same meeting Itachi refuses to give Fugaku information when concerning a mission. Fugaku's reaction to Itachi's unwillingness to give out this info.

Fugako: Itachi... you are the backbone that connects this family to the village... you have to be a useful connection. You understand that... right?

In the bottom right panel Fugaku gives another threatening look to Itachi. The words useful connection implies that Uchiha are in fact out casted within Konoha. This also relates back to when Madara said Itachi was originally sent by Uchiha to spy on Konoha.

221-16:The same meeting. Sorry but this part is a critical point that must be addressed. This meeting holds the truth in Madara's words. Fugaku looks pissed off at this point. The look in there mothers face says allot. It shows her fear with the current discussion as plotting to take over Konoha would result in death. So my opinion on her role is that she didn't completely agree with it but sided with her husband.

Fugaku: Impress them well and then come to tomorrow's meeting.

Take a look at what Fugaku is actually saying here. "Impress them well" implies them being Konoha. Another sign of tension between Uchiha & Konoha as Uchiha are again talked about as being separate from the village. "come to tomorrow's meeting" & here you have it. Secret Uchiha meetings did in fact happen. With "impress them well" its implying for Itachi to put on a show,front, & or act for Konoha lack of a better term.

Itachi:Sasuke... Go to the bedroom and quickly go to sleep

Itachi sensed Sasuke but does not want him involved with the current discussion & tells him to go to sleep. Another sign of Itachi trying to protect Sasuke from the turth. Another look of fear from there mother when finding out Sasuke was near. What does she need to be afraid of? I think we all know the answer at this point.

221-19: The following morning more Itachi & Sasuke bonding. Look at Kishi's wording on the side of this page. Also you can see distrusting Uchiha entering the scene.

Kishi: The foreshadowing of destruction...? And the shadows of the separation between Itachi & their father within the family... and then "that day" was brought about??

I'm asking everyone here to consider this. Kishi had this planned out for a long time that Uchiha would be rebels. Stated by Kishi himself there was in fact tension between Fugaku & Itachi.

222-6 & 222-7:Uchiha pissed off because Itachi never went to that meeting.

222-8:Uchiha rebels accusing Itachi of killing Shisui. Just to point something out these are the same Uchiha standing next to Fugaku in this more recent flashback panel 399-15. Note this all happened the day after the previous meeting I was referring to. So what was Itachi's secret mission he refused to tell him own father about? It was the assassination of Shisui Uchiha in perpetration of the destruction of the Uchiha. Konoha's (Danzoo) response to the growing tension between Konoha & the Uchiha. Shisui would need to be taken care of first of he was considered the Uchiha's best. Shisui was also Itachi's best friend which gives Itachi more power & better prepares him to face his last official mission of Konoha.

222-11:The suicide note left by Itachi after killing his best friend. These are actually Itachi's feeling written down.

The note: I'm tired of the duties... there is no future for Uchiha... and for me... I cannot walk out the "path" any further...

I'm tired of the duties relating to Itachi's inner struggle between Konoha & Uchiha. There is no future for Uchiha meaning if the qudeta happens Uchiha has no future or Uchiha must be stopped. I cannot walk out the "path" any further meaning I can not stop the tension. I can not stop the qudeta.

222-14: Notice how they said clan as in Uchiha & not Konoha. In remarks to there suspicions about the death of Shisui.

222-16
Itachi:The Clan, The Clan. You all fail to measure your own capacity, and to see the depth of my capacity.

Another clear sign on how Uchiha would constantly talk of how they're treated in Konoha & about who should actually be in power. Itachi's words are a response to there foolish pride & how much they fail to see the limits of their own power.

Itachi: You hold onto the organization, your clan, your name... These things limit us & limit our capacities... these things deserved to be shunned... It is foolish to fear what we've yet to see & know!!

This all relates to back to what Madara was saying. It's Itachi's last attempt at reaching his people before going through with it's destruction.

222-17
Itachi: Nothing's strange I'm just been carrying out my duty
Fugaku: Then why did you not come last night
Itachi: In order to reach the height.

Itachi's duty is relating to his loyalty to Konoha & duty to prevent war.
This conversation represents sides one being Konoha & the other Uchiha. In Fukgaku's eye's Itachi's duty is to the Uchiha while for Itachi it's actually for Konoha.

222-18: Itachi showing Fugaku which side he has chosen.

222-20: More words from Itachi showing his disgust for Uchiha's pride.

Itachi:You forget what is most important to you. Because you cling to something small like your clan.

What was most important to Itachi was maintaining peace. Fugaku just couldn't let go of his pride nor could the rest of the Uchiha. This pride lead to the rebellion which ultimately lead to there deaths. Itachi was a good man in the eyes of some. While in other's he's nothing more then a traitor to his people. It's up to you the viewer to decide for yourself were his loyalty should have lied. But know this what Madara says is true. Itachi did care about Sasuke. Itachi did kill Uchiha to maintain peace within Konoha. I'll end this thread stating this last piece of evidence when concerning this arc.

222-21: Itachi stopped himself once Sasuke screamed... The last true sign required to show he really did care about him. That's all I'm done. & Sorry if this has been repeated before as I'm sure I'm not the first person to say this.

Wow is all i can say. However i knew madara wasnt lying anyway but you showing the stuff that happened way before madara said it is awesome. it also makes it easier to see. I just dont know what to think about Itachi right now though. Do you hate him for killing his clan and his family and anyone close to him or do you love him for loving and protecting his brother. Its all so confusing.

With the info and proof that veng has so dilagently given to us it's really actually very simple to say that for the majority of what Madara said can't be a lie. Honestly Itachi in my eyes is what some call a villianous hero. He plays the part of the bad guy only till his means are met and in the end show him to be a savior. Itachi is still a badass in my eyes, even if he has a soft spot for his little brother XD

yeah, i agree, i believe what madara is saying, sure we could come up with alterer motives for lying about this, but the bottom line is he isn't and what is posted above is factual evidence

Itachi only gained MS to be able to prevent Uchiha from starting a civil war in Konoha and to protect his brother from Konoha and Madara.

at least in the end sasuke found out the truth, but it makes you wonder WHY itachi gave sasuke him MKS to kill madara, madara must have something planned? and telling sasuke about his brother will gin sasukes trust

Of course Madara has something planned. Thats why Madara told sasuke the truth about Itachi. Madara is hoping Sasuke will take out konoha.

There's one thing that still bugs me about Itachi being the hero. To what purpose did he tell Sasuke to kill his closest friend?

Did he actually want for Sasuke to kill an innocent to gain MS? Hero's don't kill innocent people. He could be ordered to kill, but would he really sacrifice an innocent for Sasuke to grow stronger if he was such a good guy?

That is plausible considering Itachi wanted to face him when sasuke himself had his mangekyou sharingan unlocked as well...that's why he kept telling him... "when you have the same eyes as me...come before me again."
