Could be anywhere between as soon as Naruto went to train with Jiraiya, or the day he came back.

Personally, I would think it took a few months for the council to weed out the other candidates (or at least trust Gaara enough to accept him) before they choose Gaara to be the 5th.

Very well. Sooo... anything strange happen recently? Half my neighborhood lost their power for about a day. Apparently bolts of lightning struck the transformers that gave power to the area, and the power company had to send a team to repair wiring and crap and prevent the transformers from going critical.
