Okay. Scientists built a huge motherfucking hollow circular tube deep underground, and they are going to fire subatomic particles inside of it in opposite directions and make them go really really fast until they hit each other. When they hit each other, sensors inside the thing will observe the collision. However, these collisions are special because they will be the biggest kind of particle collisions we have ever seen. Scientists hope to see new particles come out of the collision, because discovery is fucking awesome.

I doubt this will work, even if it does it doesn't prove the big bang theory to be real. After all the scientists are releasing the particles into this machine. SO who at the time released particles into the original black hole or whatever that caused the "big bang". This theory is flawed.

Do black holes grow?

Yes they do!

They grow by accreting matter that falls into them (it doesn't get sucked into a black hole!). Stellar-mass black holes (black holes with the sun's mass or perhaps up to 50 times as much) can double their mass by accreting material from a companion star. Supermassive black holes may grow by absorbing millions of stars over the course of billions of years.

I was under the impression that black holes were super dense singularities that had no mass of their own, and space-time warped around it causing its gravity to have a universally irresistible pull on all forms of matter (even light, the universal constant of speed, cannot escape it), but I'm sure wiki or wherever the devil you copypasta'd that from has more authoiry than me.

Well shit, looks like I have to brush up on my quantum phenomenons and principles. /nosarcasm

So they're going to try and create a micro-Black hole? Will it have a similar singularity at it's core as a regular black hole? It's like to see measurements from that. Or are they just going to collide particles? Hell, they could make this into an energy source and we probably wouldn't need fossil fuel anymore. I'm not sure how much energy it'll put out, but I'm sure we could use it somehow.

@BK: As far as their being flaws in the Theory, it's a theory. It it didn't have flaws, it would be a law.

I have read the article and it keeps on saying that is a cooldown, so does that mean that they used this already.

Anyway, their goal isn't to make a black hole. That's for later experiments. It's predicted that the LHC isn't strong enough to make a black hole. Even if a black hole was created, it'd evaporate in less (far less) than a second due to Hawking radiation. Don't you guys read wiki?

I swear. A black hole is the last thing you should be worried about. There's a greater chance of you all dying in a car crash tomorrow than something going wrong with the LHC. There are cosmic rays currently bombarding the earth's atmosphere every second of every day with energies that are just as great as what the LHC will create. If particle collisions of such magnitudes created black holes or strange matter or true vacuums or cthulu, we'd have been fucked a long time ago.
