It's a bit funny how you accuse this man of taking this stuff out of context but you yourself take what he said out of context. He was talking about religion mixing in with politics, the guy narrating the video said it himself, he was talking about why he finds it so difficult for America to use the Bible to help guide their public policy. Now Obama mentions Leviticus and Deuteronomy and he says "Which passages of scripture should guide our public policy? Should we go with Leviticus? Which suggests that slavery is OK? Or we could go with Deuteronomy which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith."

Now I've read both Leviticus and Deuteronomy and he is quite right, they both do suggest those things. Suggest.

Now it might not be exactly so but it's what it suggests. I remember there was a preacher who used these passages and said that it's alright to stone children like this to death. Why? Because it's in The Bible. Again, it might not be so but it's what it suggests and in this world not everyone is the same, sure you're opinion may be that Obama took that stuff out of context, but according to this preacher Obama was fully right in saying what he said, especially with the Deuteronomy part.

You're treating this like Obama did, you're not putting it into the correct context. Taking snapshots from the bible and saying "OH THATS WHAT IT MEANS NURR NURR" is absolutely retarded. Read the whole thing and understand why God allowed those things to take place and why they did take place.


Because the Bible is totally saying its okay to pick up rocks and drive by children for no fucking reason. Great things came from all of those books of the bible, taking the negative and ignoring the positive is ignornat to say the very least

Why must people always tell me to read the whole thing to understand one part of it? That's not usually the case. Also, no. Nowhere did I say "OH THATS WHAT IT MEANS NURR NURR," read carefully and notice that I said that's what it fucking suggests. In the Bible your God may have had a reason for allowing those things to take place and there may be reasons why they did... but it doesn't change the fact that it still suggests that doing that shit is right. There are people (like this preacher, a preacher remember, someone who spreads this same message to other people) who actually don't waste their time with context and go with it simply because "it's in the Bible." Also who decided what the "correct context" is? As far as I see it all of this is personal interpretation, how YOU choose to take it. How Obama sees it. How this preacher took it.

I'm not ignoring the positive in anything, at the moment I'm just focusing on the negative. Also taking the positive and ignoring the negative is also pretty ignorant too I would say. Yes, Obama said that it suggests all of that... and it does. It suggests all of that, it may not be how YOU interpret it but it definitely is how other people will and already have. I'm not saying either of you are right or wrong in your interpretations I'm just saying that there are a lot of interpretations that have been forged from these little suggestions in the Bible.

if you havn't read the whole book or any of the books for that matter, this is pointless.

Circumstances are very important. To tackle someone and beat them senseless becomes different if they're running with a ladies purse they just stole as opposed to if you found some helpless bastard and decided to beat him untill he shit himself for no reason. Thats context. Depending on how you interpret that context and how it's backed up is dependant on whether or not someone calls you arrogant/ignorant. Just rememeber that about the Bible

The video explains it perfectly, you cant take bits and pieces from a book, negative pieces might i add, and say the whole book suggests it and thats all we received from it. No we received so many positive things from each of those books, it is in fact mockery to say "well this book suggests we can stone people hurr" "this one suggests we can have slaves nurr nurr" "this one is absolutely radicals!:!>?1." These were things said and accepted hundreds of years ago, the man had no idea what he was talking about


gimme a while to read back over these books, they aren't exactly fresh in my mind. I'll have a better argument. I'd assumed the video alone was good enough to explain why saying such things were ignorant and arrogant, but apparently not

Too lazy to go back and quote, but I'm responding to the Bible debate going on here. The Bible does say in the Old Testament not to eat pig meat, calling it ceremonially unclean. Christians do eat pig meat, and don't think twice about it. Why? Because that was Old Testament law. In the Christian belief, when Jesus came, he updated the Old Testament law and brought in what is called "The New Covenant". In this New Covenant, he taught that all animals are ceremonially clean because the Father (God) created them; therefore, it's okay to eat pigs. That's just one thing that has changed.

The Scriptures Obama ignorantly took out of context were part of the Old Testament law, but modern Christians live by New Testament law. They wouldn't stone a child because he didn't believe in God, since nowadays one can make his or her own choice whether to believe or not, and to not respect that decision is ignorant. As for slavery, the Bible never condemns it; nor does it ever condone it. Much of the world has abolished slavery, though, and to go against them and try to own a slave because the Bible never says not to is just stupid. I have never met or heard of a Christian who supports slavery.

Hopefully this answers some questions. Hopefully it also exposes Obama's idiocy and arrogance.

He was explaining the separation of church and state; why that's IMPORTANT. It's FUCKING IMPORTANT because the bible DOES SAY FUCKING RIDICULOUS THINGS. I remember in that speech he also goes on to explain how the whole nation isn't fucking christian, and therefore LAWS FOR THE ENTIRE NATION shouldn't be CHRISTIAN.

He's not MOCKING the bible OR christianity. He's making a point. When you want to make a point, you don't say "here's the negatives, but here are the irrelevant positives!" NO. You can make it seem like he's a prick by ignoring this fact.

That's IN THE BIBLE, though. He was using some superficial belief in the bible and applying it to the law of the USA, to MAKE A CONTRAST and to show the separation of church and state makes sense. Going by that logic, it doesn't have to be the CHRISTIAN bible, it could be ANY bible. In the speech he also goes on to explain that this nation is not only a christian nation, but a islamic nation, a buddhist nation, a hindu nation, ALL KINDS OF RELIGIONZ. So why can't he address the jewish nation and point out how ridiculous their superstitions are?

Tell me. What do the things Obama are referring to mean when IN context? It doesn't even matter because it sounds like you're against Obama suggesting christians believe the things he said were in the bible. Well, from my understanding, there are parts of the bible that are irrelevant to a christians particular worship. So he's not suggesting "ALL CHRISTIANS BELIEVE IN THIS." For example, there are gay christians. It says RIGHT THERE "man should not lay with man as if another woman" or some shit, but gay christians just omit that part in their interpretation. That's why not all christians support slavery (though, maybe back in the day, SOME people FOR slavery might have quoted the bible on that), or why christians don't stone their children, or whatever random odd thing that might be in the bible.

Shika, you know why this speech isn't all over the news like the pastor fiasco was? Because his comments were not radical in any sense and held truth, so no one gives a fuck. Only random evangelical conservative fags can take some OUT OF THE BLUE Obama speech and twist his real meaning, and then post it on youtube hoping to catch some undecided voters. If there is any real news that makes Obama ACTUALLY AND LEGITIMATELY radical and evil, it will be... ON THE NEWS. That would be the greatest news story ever, wouldn't it?
