My father's family is descended from the Swedish. The last name originally was Cock. Tis be your average Swedish last name in the 1700's. In the mid 1800's the family was the family of Cocks. They renamed the family name to a respelled plural form of the original name. Thus we get "Cox".

I kicked a kid in the nuts for spelling my name wrong in middle school. Cheap-shot, but ironic.
