Listen to this...
Yup, this is one of my threads where I tell you that the music I listen to is better. Here is a prime example:
Agalloch ![]() Agalloch is probably the most innovative metal band on the horizon right now. Their combination of minimalist post-rock with black doom metal creates an atmosphere that is found in no other music. There are similar bands, such as Wolves in the Throne Room, but they still sound really different. One thing I love about Agalloch is the fact that br00t4l metalheads cannot stand them. This is because metalheads operate off of the idea that nothing is intense unless it contains growling from hell and palm-muted bass heavy guitars. Of course, you have to throw in that wicked behind-the-head solo that will MELT YOUR FUCKING FACE OFF. It isn't kvlt black metal, and that is why I like it. Not only that, but it sounds so Scandinavian that one wonders how it came from Portland, Oregon. It doesn't necessarily have that frost-bitten sound of Scandinavia. It does sound cold as hell. Their lyrics are poetic, though I would not consider them to be entirely original style-wise: Quote:
The reason I posted this is because while I was away at the mountains I listened to them a bit. Now while I was out in Colorado about two summers ago I had realized the power of this music as I stared down the Rocky Mountains. Yellowstone Park was perfect for the music. Combine a misty, cold atmosphere and you have potentially a spiritual experience. So while I was at the mountains it began to rain a bit. I turned on some Joanna Newsom thinking that her music would be great for the occasion. Being folk music straight from the mouth of girl who lived on a toadstool in Appalachia, I figured I was in for an experience. It was okay. The next day it rained again and poured. I turned on some Agalloch as walk through the pouring rain. I am drenched just like everything around me. I am secluded from the fast paced atmosphere of the people around me. I feel one with nature. It was one of those times where you think about things that you didn't think your brain was capable of thinking. I really enjoyed it. I don't think Disturbed could match any of that. All Disturbed can really do is make you feel like that child abuse you went through wasn't your fault. So here is a start for those who wish to hear: Pale Folklore sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS8ncmwUpto The Mantle sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88KUBzV2jfU Ashes Against the Grain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIzoyPfPKO4

Re: Listen to this...
Linkin Park have always, will always, and pretty much epitomise on a universal scale the act of sucking balls.
