Martial Arts

Does anyone like martial arts? What's your favourite style? Do you learn any? Have you ever used it in a real fight?

I always like martial arts. I've been reading a lot books about many different styles ever since I was a small kid. I don't really like Karate cuz it's like a 'bad copy' of Chinese Kung Fu and the techniques are too stiff. I like Chinese martial arts better. They're more history and art to it.

My favourite styles are Wing Chun, Praying Mantis Style and Thai Boxing (Muay Thai). Wing Chun is a really simple and effective form of kung fu based on quick reflexes and countering attacks. It was Bruce Lee's original style. I just like praying mantis cuz of the footwork and the cool stances. And I like Thai Boxing cuz of its techniques. It's a simple martial art, but it's really effective and powerful. I especially like their fighting stance and their elbow and knee techniques.

I've been in Karate for probably 8 years now. I don't train too often, so I'm only at blue belt level right now (white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown, black, Dan levels), but my Sensei wants to test me for brown by the end of June. I've got an interest in other Martial Arts, but I can't be paying for several monthly cost at the same time. I'd like to take Aikido, but it's not possible right now.
As for using it in a fight, no. However, my friends do regularily attempt to beat on me for fun, but I'm usually able to block their feeble attacks.

I don't know how to do any of the styles I mentioned too. I only know their techniques and concepts. I'm like a martial arts fan who only studies it but doesn't learn it. However, I'll probably decide to learn Praying Mantis soon, since I've finally found a good teacher.

i did karate for a bit but then I quit...coz well I couldnt be botherd anymore.
I did Ren Bu Kan (Train, Drill and Discipline) and iv still got the guide, it was a good style.

i dont no if kick boxin is one i kickbox.i ent used it in a fight before but its fun.sparrin and kickin the pads

Kickboxing is a martial art. It's one of the most modern martial arts and it's very effective due to its simplicity. Most martial arts have a lot of complicated techniques, which are mostly useless and waste a lot of energy, but in Kickboxing, all the techniques are simplified so that it can be used effectively with power and speed. "You can know 20 ways to block a kick, but you only need one effective way." I wanna learn kickboxing some day too.

i been doin taekwon do for just under a year now, im going for green belt (3rd belt) in a few weeks

cool.

I did taekwondo for 9 months and then i quit seeing as i had to move.But before then i got my green belt. I did karate for 7 years and that was cool.Got my black belt ^^. I like them both but i prefer Aikido

i did Aikido for about 3 months

(i forgot about that).we kept doin the same thing so i quit and plus it was on friday at night.but its was good cuz u got tu use the samurai sword and bo(staff0.this was 3 years ago so i cant really remember)it was cool

well im planning to learn martial arts and yes I have been in real fights but brute streangth takes you so far.

um..yeh.. i do TKD, bin doin it fo 2yrs and smthn (blue tip) might consider grading at the end of this term..but i dunno..its sorta troublesome. and no i haven't used it in a real fight b4

Wow cool! A lot of you learn martial arts here. It's a bit strange that no one uses it in a real situation though.

well my sensei/coach told me this and i think its quite true "the reason ppl train in martial arts is to learn to defend themselves, but at the same time. martial arts teaches how to avoid conflict and let go." so i guess thats kinda the reason why not many ppl here used it in real fights, either that or its becoz we're lucky enough not to get into afight yet ^^;
