Re: Martial Arts

Word, wrestling is one of the oldest, if not the oldest martial art.

I too am in the camp that believes grapplers have a distinct advantage against pure strikers in a one on one situation, Kilik113. ^^;;

And some of you guys are lucky bastards, sounds like most of you go to decent schools. I've got nothing around here except crappy TKD or "Karate" mcdojos. Luckily my college has judo as an afterschool activity thing (Questionable teacher though, teaches a lot of useful throws and takedowns...just doesn't seem to know what they're called. He just calls everything a "toss" >.>), and I live in an area with probably the best wrestling coaches and competition in the USA, maybe even the world.

Re: Martial Arts

Yeah, those are the great times! When you wake up the next morning and feel like you got nailed by a Mac truck. Then you go and do some more training and feel like it ran you over, too! It's AWESOME!!!

^Hah, I know that feeling. After judo, sometimes the skin from my finger/knuckles peel off, cause of the constant gripping with sweaty hands :P In addition to the soreness. And its like "........YES"

Re: Martial Arts

Korean style Hapkido. Its lots of counter attacks. Its fun if you don't mind falling all the time.

I want to learn the Brazilian ninjutsu. It looks really cool.

Re: Martial Arts

Found it. The first known martial arts is the Kalari from India. The first book of this martial arts is dated 5BC.

Brazil have ninjutsu....

Ronaldinho: Ninpou Brazilian slant freekick.

Ronaldo: Ninpou Shuriken Ball....

Dida: Ninpou Goalkeeper bushin no jutsu.

Nowonder they won 5 World Cup.....

Re: Martial Arts

Heh, not bad Kluang. He probably meant Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu though, not ninjutsu. ; )

Edit: After a quick search I found ancient forms of wrestling to be just as old or older than 5 BC. Also, Pankration is around 500 years older than Kalari if your dates are right. Then there's forms of wrestling that predate that by a good 2000 years. >.>

Re: Martial Arts

Yep, the first recorded Olympic wrestling match occured in 708ish BC. That's all I could find about the oldest documented greek wrestling event. Then again, I only searched for about 8 minutes total. >.>

Re: Martial Arts

Like I said, Miburo. One piece of information'll state that one martial art is the oldest, then another will completely contradict it. So it's impossible to tell what's truly the oldest martial art. My conclusion at this point is just mere wrestling.

Homophobic much? ; )

Aruko, I know. I agree, some form of wrestling probably is the oldest. Just thought I'd throw some info out there to counter Kluang's claim.
