5 lessons a week at 4 pounds each, gym sparring at 6 pounds a week, private bjj lessons at 15 quid each. yeah, it certainly adds up!

there's only 4 belts, white, blue, brown, black.

blue usually takes 18 months to a year to get and is reckoned to be similar to black belt level in other traditional martial arts. i'm a white belt and will be for a while yet lol

i gotta head off for a couple of days. if there's any more questions make a thread about bjj or mixed martial arts or whatever and i'll try and answer when i get back

It's ok! Just talk about BJJ here. It sounds interesting and I wanna know more about it too. Maybe you (Kakashi5) could tell us more about it's theories, concepts and maybe describe some of the techniques. Maybe we could compare it with other martial arts and talk about the advantages and disadvantages.

I also wanna see how effective this martial art truly is!

My impression of a Kata is using Martial arts in real combat.... oh well, I guess you can be good at martial arts without being a great innovator.

Oh well, this just gives me more reason to practice my own style.

I don't really think those kind of techniques are cowardly, but maybe a little cheap. Those techniques are in fact consided as real deadly techniques though. There are techniques in martial arts which teach you to strike the groin (e.g. Jeet Kune Do or Wing Chun that teaches you to attack the centerline). I don't really prefer to use those techniques though, cuz I think it's a bit cheap. I'd rather defeat my opponent fair and square and not hit them in that spot. However, if it is really in a street situation as Kakashi5 mentioned, and I'm in a life and death situation then I would probably use it.
