First a forewarning, there will be discussion on the newest chapter here as it sheds a lot of light into Tobi's plan and nature. It also tells us who he is not, and this is Madara.

While this is a theory, I fairly certain it can be confirmed that Tobi is NOT Uchiha Madara what so ever.


As we know from the latest chapter, Kabuto has gained an upper hand over who has been perceived as the big baddy of Naruto, "Uchiha Madara". It is very clear after reading this chapter, considering what Tobi has done, that he is for sure not Uchiha Madara and I'll explain why.

First, lets look at what was said in this chapter alone. Tobi by all means can not be harmed. We don't know what he is or what his powers are derived from. We've known that an insanely powerful space-time dojutsu didn't even work on Tobi, so what ever he is he is truly an enigma of sorts. I'm refreshing this data to make it known that Tobi certainly isn't weak; he's defeated a tailed beast while masquerading as an idiot and of any ninja in Naruto no one has used deception on the level that Tobi has.

Kabuto summons 5 of the strongest members of Akatsuki back from the grave and in his full control. Tobi doesn't bat an eye lash. It's clear that Tobi has not found a single entity in this manga as a threat thus far and obviously there must be a good reason for this. But the moment that last coffin is revealed, Tobi is clearly on dire straights and complies to an alliance with Kabuto. It's clear that it is a secret from Kabuto saying "I haven't told a soul" and it's clear from the sarcasm and jest used from saying "Madara you're clearly in a league of your own" followed by Tobi saying "Wise guy" that whatever is in the coffin is pertaining to Tobi in some way.

Edo Tensei, as we should all know, DOES NOT USE THE BODY OF THE NINJA BEING BROUGHT BACK. It uses a sacrifice to gain a body, which is then shaped and molded (somehow) with dirt and mud to appear physically like the ninja being brought back, and when the summon is used the ninja's soul is implanted into the newly formed body, with all of its abilities. Edo Tensei only requires that the individual to be physically dead, which is likely why Hidan is not amongst those brought back.

I believe the dead giveaway here is right in front of us and is used for multiple reasons. When the coffin is opened, Tobi is right in front of our view, almost as if he was in that coffin. There is a reason why Tobi is in our way, actually two reasons. The obvious to block the view so the reader can't tell who it is, but at the same time Tobi is placed as he is in this scene because the identity he is masquerading as is in that very coffin to begin with. Tobi is not Uchiha Madara.

So why has Tobi been masquerading as Madara, and what are his plans? Is Tobi someone we DO know or something bizarre considering the nature of his being?

We know for sure that Tobi was in fact telling the truth when he said he was the former mizukage because Kisame recognized him. Even though Kisame responds by calling him Madara-sama, there is no evidence to suggest that Tobi is Madara at all, merely that this is what he is being called now. Remember, until that moment he thought Tobi was a no body and didn't know he was the actual leader of Akatsuki. Only Itachi allegedly was aware of this, and Itachi himself never identified Tobi as Madara, we've only been told by Tobi that he knew.

Tobi allegedly knows quite a lot about the Uchiha and the ninja worlds history. We also know that Sasuke is some how vital to his plan and that he needs him, and thus has been manipulating him all this time.


Why would Tobi, if he was Madara, reveal himself after 80 years to the entire ninja community and declare upon war as Madara? Why would he reveal all of this information when he has been shown to be a deceitful, lying, manipulating individual? It's all part of the plan.

Tobi isn't Uchiha Madara. He might be a Uchiha but frankly I don't even want to suggest that he is quite yet. But it's clear from the events in this chapter that Tobi has been masquerading as Uchiha Madara. We even know someone who can "feel" Madara's presence. The Kyuubi. And while The Kyuubi knows full well what Madara's presence feels like he has never once said that "That is Madara."

I believe what we are dealing with is not Uchiha Madara, but as some have been getting around to thinking, a battle of philosophy from the time of the great sage. Power vs Love, Vengeance vs Forgiveness. Sasuke, like Tobi (who may still be a Uchiha) and like Madara, they are all following the road of Power and Vengeance, in the name of the Uchiha.
