Some of you might know, or not, that a rapid sweep of amature radio is now vastly avalible to the public. The term for this is podcasting. I have been listening to several shows for a time now using Ipodder

In a sense all this is a recording (.mp3) that is made into a RSS feed that is linked to a site that is then put into a directory. I have found a toutorial on the howto for it at macworld

What my idea is that we, as NarutoLounge, possibly make a podcast on:
- Certain Naruto issues/Bleach
- Weekly forum accomplishments
- New sites advertising
- Advertiseing contest winners: "best graphic", "best fanfic", "most mature", etc.
- Provide insight into what we might think is to come in the anim/manga
- Etc

I don't know if yall might be interested. I am only making a thread for us to read and decide on. I know some other sites have made a type of thing before (before podcasting that is). It could be a great rep for us.

Another issue in this might be: who is speaking/recording? That will be answered in time. This is only a proposed idea. I know on mac that Ichat is the the way some have been doing a conference type thing. I hope that if this idea follows through we could have many mature members talk and record.

This file will also have to be hosted. My ability to host will be going down in a month or two. The files that I have seen are less than 20MB (15mb maybe). They are around 50 minutes long, though, and they also have pretty good quality.

Last notes: The Ipodder software is rivals with Itunes. They are the two major players. What I have been suggesting is Ipodder because it has the features and popularity (free and spyware-free) that we whould need. The macworld page I linked has a way for macs to do the recording on top. Just ignore that. What I am referring to is on the bottom.

I hav eno clue what this is so I cannot say. I do know that Hokage was thinking of going on the radio and talking about L9I Anime one time. Hehe I am not knowledgeable about this enough to figure out the costs and etc.

The cost whould be the cost the server space, the mics for each person (I have my own pro vocal mic setup). Maybe more. The thing is with this the cost is only what it costs to serve the file. If we were to get an admin of L9i or NL to agree to host it the cost whould only be the space they already have.

If someone knew of a free interent conference software I could record it via Sony Acid Pro 4. I legally own it.

Yeah i was thinking of doing something alot similar to your idea awhile back. I was looking into having a internet radio station via Win amp. Anime-Keep has one and Naruto cafe use to have one.It works well from what I have seen and heard, the only problem will be maintaining it and i was unable to find out the actuall cost(not estimates). i wouldnt mind helping adding one for l9i or NL but it has to be monitored 24hrs a day.

Why does it have to be monitored 24/7? It only has to be avalible on the server since it is a pre-recorded show. In essence it is just an mp3 that is linked to an RSS feed that then is made accesible through Ipodder. It whould be no different than hosting a episode of Naruto.

Yes you are right, if its done the way you just explained. But if its done Via winamp it would be a LIve show. So in essence there would have to be a Dj all the time just like a regular Radion station. Thats why it has to be monitored 24/7.

The Idea of having a pre-recorded show will be kind of boring BC it takes the live interaction away. The point of having Internet radio was for interaction, not just news Updates, that people can read on the site anyway. Plus making it pre-recorded news and using the server for it will Put a huge Bandwith strain on the server, Thats really not needed. Thus the Idea is a good one but not cost effective at all.

Let me clarify what hes saying. Hes talking about making a recording of everything thats been going on, radio style, once a week, or whenever something happens. Then any and everyone can download and listen to it. Hokage, theres no way we could keep a station up 24/7, if we did, there would be LOTS of dead-air.

We could do a live show, but instead of it being 24/7, we could advertise when it will happen, and that way if the members can/want to they can "call-in" and ask questions or whatever.

I understood what he was saying, But its a bandwith stain to upload a 10-30mb "radio chat" . Its hard to keep up with bandwith as it is now. Let alone 60,000 plus members downloading a weekly wav file to hear us give news updates. Dont get me wrong I am all for it, And it would be something different and original, But cost is rather difficult.
But hey We can try it and see how it works out.

Is there a voice conference software yall know of that is free? We could do what you were saying SHino and have an advertised show time and everyone "call in" BUT have one of us (I whould love to) record the entire session and then make an Mp3. Those who missed the show (because they were not in the same timezonw, etc) could download the show.

Your idea sounds good Shino and H_I. I'd love to have live callers call in and stuff. That's why I was asking before if anyone knew of a decent voice conference software that was free and we have the ability to allow them to join the dicussion (a makeshift phonecall) and then boot them from the voice chat (seperate from the radio show) and allow another user to "call in"/join, etc.

Yeah the Winamp Radio Station is a tad different than the Podcast (being the podcast was just a pre-recorded show/audio blog). We could do both so that everyone can atleast listen (and call in if they can).

EDIT: I think Ipodder is a qued type system so that maybe management of bandwidth be easier.

Aight. I'll see about geting more information of everything and maybe in about a week we can have everything planned and then announce a public announcement about our idea.

So bassically it is going to be like this (correct me if I am wrong:

Our first thing will be a voice chat program that will allow everyone to talk. This also should manage the users comming in. So we should be able to lock it down to us hosts and then select a user question from this software that we lack.

This entire thing has to be sent to Winamp radio LIVE. I have no clue how to do that. We will have to figure that out. It also needs to be recorded into a file at the same time. That way we can provide a lag-free version of it and it can be sent to me or someone to edit/add stuff to it (like a theme music or opening, etc.)

(For Podcast)
After being edited it needs to Mp3 encoded (I'd be happy to) an then uploaded to the server. Then I will need to make the Rss feed via the thing from the macworld link above (I have that setup and ready to go). Then I will submit it to out podcast directory on the Ipodder site.

Then it will be avalible to all. What is coll about this is the person can input the url of the podcast (if need be) and then it will subscribe them. Everytime they hit the update button their subscriptions will download the new updated to thieir podcasts. Very easy for the consumer-end.

Edit: I just got the RSS feed for narutolounge. The rss url is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/narutolounge

This will be the announce URL that will be used with the directory o Podcasts.

EDIT: THe only thing wrong I see with Skype is the limit of four people on at a time. Maybe that can be changed.

EDIT^2: Ok, I got Skype working and it seems to allow > 4 people. I suggest some of yall download it and setup an account. Tis' free.

The only thing I see an issue here whould be how we get other users on (non NL or L9i staff). Whould we use im to somebody and then they allow them in the chat?
