Re: Games and all things related

They say that The Old Republic will probably be released this year but it will be an Origin exclusive, you will not be able to get it on Steam or anywhere else. So it's either retail copy or Origin download, and there's a good chance that even if you get the retail copy you might be forced to install Origin. Kind of like what Valve did with Half-Life 2 and Steam.

I don't mind it because it means more competition and hopefully lower prices for us, but when it gets to exclusive games and content, it just gets annoying. A lot of people already have huge Steam collections and won't be willing to change, EA are just losing potential customers through it. Better to release on Steam too and then try to have a competitive price or some shit on Origin.

Unless you mean Star Wars Galaxies, then I would strongly advise playing it as the game is a giant steaming pile of shit, according to everyone I've talked to about it.

I will have to agree with your opinion of FFXI. The game was fun for about 10 minutes, then it became a giant nightmare. The interface was horrible(lol menu based combat on an MMO), the penalty for dying should've been covered by the Geneva Convention (10% loss of total experience that could result in de-leveling), crafting was luck based and a pile of shit, and you couldn't do anything past level 10 without a group.

I'm pretty new to steam, so I dunno how it works really. Is something happening to it next year or some shit?

And oh, nah, Old Republic is the one I'm talking about.

And holy fuck, yeah. I leveled fucking monk up when I first got it because punching monsters to death is manly. But this was way back in the day where people thought monks sucked and dark knights were the tits because bigger numberz. So pretty much right after goddamn subjob levels I was waiting hours for goddamn invites. Fuck that. So my bro and I leveled fucking beastmasters instead, since they were basically the only dudes who could feasibly do anything in game without sucking nearly have a dozen cocks (Didn't think of bst pet nuking with black mages). Duo'd fucking everything like goddamn heroes. Fucking nation ranks, fucking sky access, fucking despot a a couple of times with a million unmanly normies trying to mpk us and steal it, fucking BCNMs, fucking O-hat eyeball slimy guy, fucking joyous sword octopus thing (was a trio with some other bst that had rdm leveled, but he died fucking instantly without reraise on like a goddamn noob.), and other shit that I don't remember. Doing the impossible was the only enjoyable part of that game. And mpking asshole normies who tried to bully us out of a zone by killing our pets was pretty lol too. Everything else, though? Horrible. 5k/hour max for bst duo leveling/meriting was extra horrible. Making money really sucked for a long while. But bst were at least good mercs, especially for shit like O-hat runs and BCNMs. And we had plenty of seals of our own because everyone hated bsts so we were all usually forever alone and never had to share. Never got to battle any gods except byakko a couple of times with bst ls, because normies were all lolbst. That sucked too. = /

Edit: Oh. That EA origin is just going to be like steam, but for EA games? Ehhh...I guess that wouldn't be too bad. If I'm playing goddamn Old Republic then I'd only want to chat with other dudes I'm playing with. So they'd all have the same EA origin thing too. And if I want to play steam games then I'll just exit that shit and load up the steam. Kinda annoying, I suppose. Since I got to download something else and put info in and shit. But not that big of a deal. Unless I'm missing something. Computer gaming nubcake.

Re: Games and all things related

Nah, nothing's happening to Steam aside from a sexy summer sale in about 3 or 4 weeks. Prepare your wallet.

That's pretty much spot on Mibs, it'll be an EA version of Steam but with only their own games. And you can't blame them for it either, through Steam they only get about 70% of the profit, through Origin they'll be able to take it all... lol at retail shops though. So while it will be annoying having to switch between them to play games you like and having exclusives such as TOR only on Origins, it's really not too bad. It just means that due to EA wanting more money, we get more choice and better competitive pricing.

It may turn out to be absolute shit, if it's anything like the current EA Downloader then most likely. But if they've improved it and actually made something good, won't be a problem to give it a chance. I mean even when Steam was initially released it was a steaming pile of shit.

The main problem with Origin will be the exclusive content and games which gamers will not be happy about at all. Though be prepared to most likely have to install Origin even if you purchase the retail copy of TOR.

To Steam? Dunno. But Steam doesn't usually show something until a couple months before launch to get pre-orders in. Also I stand corrected on where the game is in development after looking at the website. It looks like it's in Closed Beta where people can play for free to test different things for bugs but players are told to not post anything from the beta servers. Now I'm really wishing I had my computer hooked up to the internet so I can sign up for the Beta >_>

Re: Games and all things related

EA? Meh. Nothing they'll offer that I can think of is overly necessary to have in an online form except maybe the sports game, which are generally well done. Even though I'd never pay $60+ for the latest version when the perfectly good last years or years before will end up under $20 very soon.

That said, is anyone anticipating this EA release:

I remember playing a lot of Alice in my first year dorm room with my roommate, often drunk or high... it was pretty freakin' awesome in a twisted childhood story kind of way. Wonder if I can find a copy lying around somewhere...

Re: Games and all things related

Never seen this Alice game before. What's it like?

Also never played any FF game. These asian style games were never quite what I liked.

I really hope TOR won't be another WoW clone...at least we get the awesome story from KoTOR.

Re: Games and all things related

Well, the original is around 11 years old and was a pretty standard hack and slash game, except you were Alice running around with a butcher's knife and Wonderland had gone all twisted, evil and violent. So, uh, awesome. Nothing overtly special over any other game in terms of play just the story material and visuals were pretty damn cool at the time. Plus, my roommate and I were pretty big nerds... the other roommate just being a rich kid drug dealer who was rarely around.

But that's another story.

World of Goo is on sale on Steam for today, I strongly suggest you buy it and love it. I think it's $5 for US and £3.49 for UK, the rest don't matter.

The € is stronger than the Pound. And in some time, you will have to adapt. Just like your GMT-1...It is proven that it would give the british people more daylight, but you refuse to adapt anything coming from the continent. Stubborn islanders. But it is just a matter of time.

The Euro was significantly weaker than the US Dollar not even 10 years ago. It sure hasn't overtaken the Pound, and it probably never will given that the EU is barely held together.
