RIP Nate Dogg

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/35/20110316...s-716af92.html

Nate Dogg has died aged 41.

The singer - real name Nathaniel D. Hale - passed away unexpectedly last night (15.03.11) in Long Beach, California. While the cause of his death is not presently known, he had previously suffered two strokes in 2007 and 2008.

Snoop Dogg, who had known Nate since school, tweeted: "We lost a true legend [of] hip hop n rnb. One of my best friends n a brother to me since 1986 when I was a sophomore at poly high where we met (sic).

"I love u buddy luv. U will always b wit me 4ever n a day (sic)."

Nate got his break appearing on Dr. Dre's classic debut solo album 'The Chronic' in 1992, but his breakthrough came with 1994 single, 'Regulate', alongside Warren G, widely acknowledged as one of the most successful ever tracks in the G-Funk genre.

Nate also worked extensively with rappers including Snoop, Ludacris, Eminem and Tupac Shakur. He appeared on more than 40 singles which made it into the US Billboard top 40 during his career and also released three albums of his own.

Ludacris - who worked with Nate on his 'Area Codes' single - tweeted: "There is a certain void in hip hop's heart that can never be filled. Glad we got to make history together."

Nate's producer and friend, Fred Wreck, also tweeted, saying: "What I wouldn't give to hear him say "Roll One" just one more time. To the world you were a legend but to me you were my friend. iLuvUNate (sic)."

Re: RIP Nate Dogg

Ooooooooohhhh... R.I.P. Shit, I was all ready to come and start insulting Nate Dogg, whoever he is.

EDIT: Did some research to try and find something about this that affects me... only thing I find interesting is that he had 3 strokes and is dead by 41. That tells me genetic defect or massive drug use (which I base on the fact that he apparently "joined the drug trade"). School drop out, dishonourably discharged by the Marines, accused of gun possession, armed robbery, kidnapping(!) and stalking. Associated with several names in the rap industry, but nothing is telling me he had his own career of note.

Soooo... I got nothing.

Re: RIP Nate Dogg

He had his own career. Youtube the guy. He was a R&B singer who rolled with rappers like Snoop Dogg and 2Pac. He sang hooks for them as well as other rappers. He also came with his own solo album and was nominated for several Grammys.Given that most of the poeple in this forum know little to nothing about Rap/R&B, I'm not suprised that he is not well known here.

Having a career and having a successful career are two different things. The fact that anyone would have to Youtube the guy is proof of this.

You see, this is the thing. If this guy were any good, you post would have been worded "rappers like Snoop Dogg and 2Pac rolled with him". Instead you make it seem (and rightfully so) like he was 2nd rate compared to these legends of rap.

So he was a backup singer, and was featured on other people tracks. Not that impressive.

Solo=1

So he had one album that was it? Sound more like a one hit wonder. Being nominated for a Grammy is kinda cool, I guess. Not as cool as winning one. Just sayin'

Thing is, if he were successful, we wouldn't have to like rap to know who he is. He'd break out into the mainstream like other rappers you just mentioned. I personally don't like most rappers, but I still know who a bunch of them are by virtue of them getting media coverage and playtime on the radio.

Re: RIP Nate Dogg

shit, people are so fucking stupid.
"his own career of note" means "not always being the side kick" or the feature on a song, and more than just one album.
oh shit, a album, like there isn't tons of people everywhere that have their own singles album

on a different note, i liked Nate Dogg, for the most part. i do listen to a lot of rap (while driving, on the radio), but really, the music community wont be missing much.
I liked his stuff, but i didn't not respect him.

EDIT: WHOA! AMA swooped in and said what i was thinking but took the time to type it out better/in more words.

How was his career not successful? He might not have had "Jay-Z money", but he had success to some degree. Besides, I mentioned Youtube so you could get a quick view of the man since you had never heard of him.

I worded it like that so you would know some of the people he was associated with.
Quote:

I wasn't trying to make him sound like the "King of R&B". But yeah, he was featured on other people's songs. Became famous and made money doing so.

I know what solo means.
Quote:

If he was nominated for several Grammys, wouldn't it be safe to assume that he was known for more than one song?
Quote:

Hold on, let me get this right...
A person who isn't into rap knowing who Nate Dogg is = Sucessful?! No. That would be like me trying to gauge the degree of success of some rock band based on whether or not I have heard of them. That would make no sense when I know very little about Rock music in general.
If being on songs with rappers such as Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Fabulous, Eminem, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, etc. does not constitute being a mainstream singer what does? All of those guys I mentioned are mainstream, world famous rappers. I would assume that you know who they are. The songs that he was on got much airplay on the radio when they came out. You probably haven't heard of him because A) You may possibly be to young, B)You don't listen to much Rap, C) He had a stroke a few years back which cut his career short. Chances are you have probably heard him sing before without even knowing it was him.
