Edit: And yes, I do believe my life holds as much "value" as that murderer, since we are both humans.
I realized halfway through that you know value is a perception, but I didn't feel like rewording the first half of my post because my response was still accurate to your statement. Specifically, I was responding to "You guys are looking at this from an opinionated and moral/ethic standpoint." To me, that read as though you were saying there was something wrong with that viewpoint.

Please tell me what definition of "value" you are using. Is it the same one you posted, "relative worth, merit, or importance?" Relativity is key here. Relative to the universe, you are correct to say two lives have the same value. However, we don't care about the universe, we care about society, and relative to society your life and the life of a murderer have vastly different value.

Were you reading both sides of the argument?

See, you understand perfectly the actual value of human life (Ash's life holds no more value than any other life) but you don't understand where the opinion comes in. Ash's life has no greater value on its own, but the other members of the group assign a great value to it because he's a zombie slaughtering machine, and the member most capable of achieving the group goal of survival. (See reason two of my response to ACt)

Oh goddamn, I am really lazy to go back and quote you all, and there would be no real point, since I agree with most of the things you guys said. As usual.

But ASH! <333 Man, I love ED. The game was cool too.

Ahh, I see.
And I totally thought you were referring to Ashley Williams in Mass Effect, my mistake!
I also agree that in a society, a life can hold more "value" - but I am using a broader scale. Animefan is talking about in general.

What is the difference between a "broader scale" and "in general?"

There isn't. You are viewing this on a "society" level scale, and I was basically saying me and AF are talking about a "broader scale" or in general.

the universe, but if hes basing it on that then we dont just have equal value to each other, we have no value due to being insignificant and one person would be as valueable as 10. i think us being insignificant to it and having no value shows maybe its not the right scale to be using. its not relevant to us. our scale on earth is relevant to us and gives us value, we dont even know everything baout the universe, we shouldnt be basing it on a scale that we got from something we dont even know everything about.

edit: i posted in the sports center, check it out

Your rambling after that aside, you think?. We were talking about social and individual perceptions for the most part during the discussion, hence my comment. "In general" doesn't really encompass the universe, usually =/

Just finished an 12 hour Axis & Allies session. Sadly the Allies won, and again, like in history, Canada was the defining coefficient...So Vengeance on Silverblade-trip, UT on acid, what else?
