That's cool... but did anyone wonder about the need to have the pictures change by sweeping right to left over the land... like a wave...

I'll admit what I know you're thinking. I had to suppress the small part of me that wanted to make wave noises as I scrolled.

Anyway, on the nuclear front - here comes the radiation. People within a 30km radius are ordered to stay indoors and small levels have been recorded in Tokyo.

That picture site is neat. Everything went from green and lush to poop brown.

Hi, there is a message i want to send to the world.
It would be great if you post the web site version
on your facebook or twitter. Thank you.
http://dayof0311.web.fc2.com/index.html

**************************************
To the people around the world.

Hi, my name is Mami and I live in Tokyo.
On March 11th, Japan faced a disaster.
An earthquake with a seismic intensity of 9 hit Japan.
According to the March 14th newspaper,
about 2,000 people died and more than 12,000 people are still missing.
Most of the people who survived lost everything. Their jobs, homes and families.
Now they spend times at a shelter but there is not enough food,
water and their physical strength is lost day by day.
It is said that recovery of this tragedy would take years.

When the earthquake happened, I was working at my office
which is at the 35th floor of Ebisu (Tokyo).
I saw shelves falling down, chairs moving back and forth, and people screaming.
My body was trembling and I couldn't think of anything.
I thought I was going to die.
I prayed for hours.

Luckily I had no injuries and was able to come back home,
but when I came back home and saw the news,
and knew what happened to the people of Tohoku-region,
I was ashamed of myself feeling relief.

4 days has passed since March 11th.

The Japanese government is still continuing the rescue,
and now a lot of countries have expressed support.
I don't know how to thank the support.
Thank you so much.

Also I thank the people for their attention to the news.
I fear that when days pass, people would start forgetting about it.
Indifference leads to death.
I believe that the world attention leads to faster recovery and rescue.
So please, pay attention to us.

Thank you so much for what you have done to us.
I cannot appreciate you enough.
Thank you.

Good way to explain to the little kids what's going on, although now I have a strange urge to install a Geiger counter in my bathroom...

I'm no bot if you mean me.
I still can't believe whats happening to Japan.
It's really strange...not much food in the supermarkets
and everyone is wearing a mask.
There is blackouts everyday.
My friends can't contact her family since that day. no reply.
Everything changed.
But with the negative situation, I have to try to be positive.
I really thank foreign people for showing attention to the news.

Look dude its really nice of you and all but there are other countries that are fucked worse than Japan. Like Haiti, everyone's forgotten about Haiti (except 1 article every few months) and what does Haiti have? NOTHING. That said I wish the best to the people of Japan and I hope the whole nuclear situation would be fixed(just throw the saltwater and stop them goddammit).

Someone's a little pissy. Japan's issues are a little bigger than Haiti's issues now, with the impending possibility of a NUCLEAR MELTDOWN. That has a global impact that far surpasses the tourism of Haiti. Haiti, so far that I know, doesn't have a nuclear plant that is leaking radiation.

There's a little more to it than just flooding the cores with seawater to cool them. There's also the radiation that will still leak from the core until they can get someone in to reseal it, more potential explosions from pressure build-up,etc. While Chernobyl has helped with preventing another explosion, there's really no telling what will happen. Even with the best prepared team being sent in to repair the damaged core, a Chernobyl like explosion can still happen. The fuel is still highly radioactive, and will be for some time.
