Wouldn't this be best placed under the gaming section? I mean, the actual topic of this thread is video gaming.

As for the relevancy to this thread that this post has: DDR does have its advantages, but you could also pick up an old Nintendo and pad, and play some old school Track and Field games.

I don't think they can really be classed as a sport. the majority of console games, or video games are not exercise, there is a few like ddr, well, just the ddr clones and such, that involve lots of physical movement, and even then, it's more like dancing then a sport. So no, i don't think so.

Rhythmic gymnastics is dancing, but is a sport...

Figure skating is, in a sense, dancing, and it is a sport...

Being a ballerina is being incorporated in a sport, and it is dancing...

You can't deny that DDR is not a sport, or whether it is simply because there is no fine line. Either way, it would be hard to argue, but I believe that DDR would quite possibly be more favored as a sport than not. Its popularity is extraordinary, the physical workout that one gets whether they know the steps or not is amazing, and not only are they having fun, but they are learning, as well. Learning in the sense that they are listening to music, and memorizing steps.

Ok >.> DDR Is NOT, I repeat NOT a sport -_-; It will make u lose weight or calories, or w/e but nobody in their right mind is going to come up to and say. "DID U PLAY DDR LAST NIGHT, THAT SPORT IS AWWESOME!!!" or "DID U WATCH THE DDR CHAMPIONSHIP?! THAT SPORT IS DA BOMB!"

it could very well be classified as a physical activity...>.> but...not a sport. DDR is more like a game that consists of listening to the music, and having quick reflexes. Nobody goes and tries to memorize the actual moves, so they can go and show off their "Dance moves". I mean, ddr is moving ur feet quickly to match the beat, ur hands do nothing. And if you went out and started dancing like this, stepping on 4 continuous spots in your imaginary square, without the actual mat or game, you would....look like a fool <.<

Do not take this the wrong way, I LOVE DDR!!! It's a blast! I absolutely adore it...but I myself don't consider it a sport -.-; (I mean think about it, if you watch someone play ddr, imagine the mat and the screen were gone, just the person and the music...do they look like they're dancing? Does it look like they're playing an intense sport?)

I really hope nobody takes this personally -.-;

Keitaro, what's this about losing braincells? I highly doubt if you played a game you would lose any more than you would if you watched a film, took your dog for a walk, went fiure skating... the only things that really accoutn for major braincell loss are a knock ot the head or radiation. but playing a video game causing you to lose 1,000,000,000,000 braincells is ludicrous.

Re: video games = sport?

Professional gaming is a sport and is a natural culture in Asia, since asians are the most hardcore gamers in the world.

Professional gaming isn't really accepted by many people, but it is expanding quickly.
