Fandom Original: Waifus and husbandos, cute or creepy?

Some people have a favorite anime/manga character. Some people claim they love these characters. Hey, that's cool. I've got tons of characters that I love. Certain fans go so far as to claim that a particular character is their waifu or husbando--essentially like their wife/husband or a girlfriend/boyfriend situation. This is still pretty acceptable in my book, so long as as it really just means you're devoted to the character in terms of favoritism and preference.

Then you see those who have a love pillow of a character. Okay... perhaps a touch jarring, but they just like having merchandise of the character, right? They don't sleep with it, do it? Err... okay, they do, but they don't caress it or anything? Oh god, they do. They clutch the pillow at night, eagerly trying to believe with all their might that their imagination might one day bring their 2D fantasy to life. But maybe this fan keeps that to themselves, in the back of his or her head. That's still not too creepy, right?

The next step down the ladder often involves devout players of the Love Plus series, going so far as to carry out as much of a "real" relationship as they can with their DS-bound girlfriends. They bring their DS out to various locations for a "vacation," hoping to hear the preprogrammed praise and affection their "girlfriend" can give them.

But it gets worse, so much worse. From awkwardly erotic fanfiction to outright porn, then there are the type of people who have gotten married to their favorite character. (Yes, it has happened in Japan, look it up.) So while I completely understand having a favorite character and even wistfully wishing you could meet a real life version of them, clearly there are some people who can't understand that fantasy is just... that. A fantasy.

So what is your opinion? Are waifus and husbandos an adorable dream? Or are they an obsession that can go too far? As for myself, I wouldn't say that I have a husbando per se, but I definitely think that if I had any character I could classify in these terms, it might be Light Yagami. Do you have one?

No no no. Marrying an anime character is bizarre and it makes me think that the people who do that only do this for attention.
Having a little crush on an anime character is fine and all, but going as far as marrying one is... BIZARRE.
