Go back a year and imagine this happening. An old manga title that had a TV run already that ended rather abruptly is getting remade. And it proves not only popular enough on TV that it's likely to go beyond its initial slate of episodes, but it's now gotten the approval to move ahead with a theatrical film. Unlike most of the Shonen Jump series that have made the transition to anime, Hunter X Hunter
was one of those that never warranted the attention for a movie.
The new feature, which has no concrete details or release date at this stage, will apparently be an original work with the blessing of the manga side so it remains to be seen where in the long running property that the story will take place, especially depending on where the TV series is going as well. An upcoming release of Shonen Jump will include a message from the creator, Yoshihiro Togashi, about the movie.
