The August slate of anime DVD and Blu-ray releases from FUNimation has come through and there's a whole heck of a lot to like here in general. Most important for many though? NEW ONE PIECE! Season 4 kicks off, though we don't have a run time yet, but new episodes on DVD, dubbed, are on the way!

The folks at Sentai Filmworks have kicked up things a bit with their August release schedule as the details have come to light today. There are a few DVD only releases here, but a lot of what they have is getting both DVD and Blu-ray, albeit it separate, releases. There's a lot of good stuff in here as well as some titles from Aesir, bringing an old ADV Films title back, as well as a new Switchblade Pictures title, all of which is distributed by Section 23.

One thing we don't see too often is the promotional push that some manga receive in Japan. Graphic novel sales are big business there, especially for top tier titles that sell over a million copies, but even the smaller but key titles get a good push. Case in point is the new three minute promo that has hit for A Bride's Story from Kaoru Mori, best known to North American fans as the creator behind Victorian Romance Emma.

The film Blood-C: The Last Dark is due out on June 2nd and a new teaser trailer has arrived that isn't one of the educational types to help new fans into the mythos. This one clocks in at just under 40 seconds, hits the serious vibe for just about all of it and focuses on showcasing the action and characters in a dark but positive light.

In light of all this, King Neptune decides his children better not attend their mother's funeral, prompting Prince Fukaboshi to address the nation. Meanwhile, in the present, Luffy and the others encounter a Video Transponder Snail which bears shocking news!

One of the things that Japan does so well is make fun of its characters but in a way that has fun with them. Case in point is the release in a couple weeks of the the anime short adaptations of Kajio's "Design Deformed" Fist of the North Star spoof manga. The DVD is due out on May 25th and a new teaser trailer has been released for it.
