<![CDATA[Sket Dance Episode 62 Review]]>
What They Say:
The students of Kaimei High are going on a class trip, but first, they have to participate in a rope skipping competition to see which class gets the best rooms. Saaya doesn't have an athletic bone in her body, so is worried she's going to doom her class to the worst rooms of all, until the Sket-dan tries teaching her how to skip! Then, the students are on their way, but in the back of one bus, Chuu-sensei is playing mad scientist again, and this time his victims are Bossun, Himeko, and Tsubaki.

The Review:
With the potential to wrap a couple of different predictble story elements together, Sket Dance is setting up to do a class trip and combine it with a ski trip. Ski trips go back to my early anime days with Kimagure Orange Road, so there's always something fun and nostalgic about them for me. But with Sket Dance, things are never going to be easy with just going to the trip and running with it. No, Chuu-san has come up with a challenge for them to deal with in order to get going. And that's beyond having J-son be the one to help them figure out how to do room choices and the like, which factors into things. What they end up coming up with is comical in the end as there are only so many good rooms and some class has to get the good room while someone else has to get the "super pathetic" one.

So the big competition comes down to rope skipping between the classes to see who will get the good rooms on the ski trip. With a lot of non-athletic people in various classes, that makes things a real challenge since it's a group event. A very big group event. The focus on Saaya and her class works well since she's pretty bad at this kind of thing, so she ends up going to the Sket club in order to get the help she needs. There's a lot of cuteness to how Bossun helps her train and it brings Saaya a bit more to the forefront in a fun way since she's so intent on learning, but has to do it in secret. It's also a bonus that the whole thing pretty much seems like a chance for Bossun to be legitimately perverted too.

Thankfully, they do get the whole ski trip aspect going as well, which has the fun of the trip up and all the quirks of the characters with how they act, such as Tsubaki with his less than normal bus snack that makes Bossun cringe. A class trip like this also has a bit of potential for romance which is nicely touched upon as well when it comes to Saaya, who really has some good moments in this episode. The real danger here though is when Himeko gets carsick along the way and Chuu is the one with some homemade solutions to help her along. Their panic is once again priceless, especially when they start to understand what each of the pills does. Chuu's always amused me on some level with the way he comes up with his inventions and the one he has here for Bossun and Tsubaki is definitely amusing, especially with Himeko's issues at the same time. It's the kind of thing that does fit on this kind of trip and as goofy as it is, it does make you laugh and grin.

In Summary:
Sket Dance plays with some standard story concepts here as it often does but it does have fun with it overall. The planning for the skip trip as a class trip is definitely amusing with the way it uses Saaya as a focal point. The whole rope sipping thing is fun and I definitely approved of how Bossun was attempting to train her. The second half is where I had the most fun though since the Sket Club ended up sitting with Chuu for the ride and he's the kind of guy that's just going to cause problems no matter what. What we get with him are stories that go beyond the normal, something the show does every now and then to take itself out of the comfort zone a bit and just be wacky. While I do like that the series is relatively real world, these sidesteps are definitely amusing.

<![CDATA[Rock Lee & His Ninja Pals Episode #11 Review]]>
What They Say:
Lee and Naruto are both vying to be on Sakura's team for a research trip to the old capitol city. But when they're stuck with Neji instead, they settle for tailing her. Evening falls and Lee wants to slip away from the senseis to go hang out with the girls. He sends Konohamaru in to do some recon, While the young ninja is caught, he manages to leave behind a single scrap of paper..

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
With so much of the show focusing on training and bettering themselves, it's a lot of fun to watch the varied match-ups that happen in order to help Lee becoming better at being a ninja. We've had a range of characters arrive in the series that have done this kind of training but we've also had some good villains show up to offer some fun as well, which really surprised me with how enjoyable it turned out to be. With this episode, things shift around a little bit as it plays up the whole class trip angle and puts Naruto back in the show for awhile in a bit more of an active way. I've been glad to see Naruto used sparingly, but it also makes sense to give him a story here and there to work with.

With the class trip, the gang is off to the old capitol city where one of the focal points becomes Sakura's research team. We get some fun time with everyone enjoying the sights, sounds and food of the city, but that's just the start of it all. Naturally, as much as Rock wants to be on her team, he doesn't get it and instead is paired up with Neji and Naruto. And none of those three are happy about that situation to say the least. What Naruto and Rock decide to do though is to tail Sakura's group, which has them putting their skills to use in a fun way while running into the strange things they can come across in the capitol. Unfortunately, the boys have to keep out of trouble or Kakashi will give them what for, which means they have to hold back a lot, something that's near impossible for them.

The second half deals with the other part of class trips that are so much fun as you have everyone hanging out in their rooms at night. And while the guys are doing alright together, they also want to go hang out with the girls. That'll require some skill in order to pull off, but everyone is in for different reasons. Well, except for Shikimaru. The story works through some awkward moments as they try to find the right rooms in order to hang out with them and enjoy candy and other treats, but mostly it's just a series of comical errors that keeps it from going right. I rather enjoyed the bits that showcased the teachers and how they were unwinding in their room together, especially since they're watching TV shows featuring familiar characters.

In Summary:
While the overall show concept here is one that I like, and it does have its amusing bits, it falls short in actually making me laugh all that much. Especially in comparison to the rest of the series. Keeping the boys and girls apart certainly makes sense but it feels like it would have worked better if it had brought them together a bit more than they did. Kakashi has some good stuff here and watching how the guys interact with each other is reminiscent of things that would happen at that age myself, though not without all the jutsus. There's definitely fun to be had here, but it left me feeling less than enthused compared to the previous run of episodes.

<![CDATA[One Piece Episode #551 Review]]>
What They Say:
With the help of the Energy Steroid, Hordy makes short work of Neptune's army before his eyes and reveals a new powerful attack - all while Jimbei and Shirahoshi finally head for the plaza! And the dejected Vander Decken hatches a deadly plan!

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
One Piece has certainly moved in somewhat traditional routes here to tell its story as it's examined the back story to great detail, allowed the Straw Hats to shine before taking a back seat and to let the villains of the day stand tall and cause a whole lot of trouble. Seeing how Hordy is now all powered up from the Energy Steroid and really making waves on the island with what he can do helps to further cement him as someone to be careful with. So much so that he wipes out a large chunk of Neptune's army with ease since his abilities are so far reaching now. And being the smart guy he is, he does all of this from afar, with Neptune at his side, to show just how outclassed everyone is around him.

Neptune's realization about this does help along the way as he tries to get his soldiers to stop going up against Hordy since he wants to try and save lives, but they're just too loyal to not try, which leads to some pretty disastrous results for them. Hordy and his men are able to run roughshod over everything, between the men he has and the massive creatures he's using to get about the island from above. It's an impressive display of power, one that has Hordy pretty confident. He's not making huge announcements or a lot of bluster, but rather is pretty mellow and calm in a way that makes you wonder what he's thinking - and if the Energy Steroid is changing him in other ways as well.

Of course, even with these overpowering odds, there are those that will continue to fight, such as Neptune's sons who are making another stand in a very public way. Neptune has certainly inspired people over the years, but it also goes back to their Queen as she wanted a very different life for the people of the island and like their hero, Fisher Tiger, she gave her life in pursuit of it. Seeing them all continuing to stand up for what they believed in, and for what their loved ones died for, makes for some compelling moments here as they make a new stand against Hordy, both physically and verbally, to try and stop the madness from spreading further. It's a good setup that goes on here as the forces are now better aligned and everything is coming to a head in a big way.

In Summary:
With the lack of Luffy and his group here, it's actually a plus since it's necessary once again to reinforce that the people of Fish Man Island are more than willing to stand up for themselves. They may be overwhelmed in the end and require help, but what we see here is that they're not going to back down on what defines them and their principles, nor will they let Hordy just run roughshod over them. It's not something that goes smoothly and there are problems along the way, but letting them get a bit more time to shine before the Straw Hats get involved is rather necessary and important to the overall storyline here, and how events could effect other things down the line in future episodes.
