4 Big Ways Morrowind Changes ‘The Elder Scrolls Online’

The latest expansion to The Elder Scrolls Online, Morrowind, is now available. It’s the game’s biggest update yet, encompassing a massive new zone, a brand-new character class, a new PVP mode, and many other additions.

Let’s take a closer look at how these additional features will change the existing TESO universe.

New Zone: Vvardenfell

Journey into Vvardenfell, the home of the Dark Elves known as the Dunmer. This massive island has more per-pixel PVE content than any other open zone in The Elder Scrolls Online — 30 playable hours of content, in fact. Fans of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, which also took place in Vvardenfell, may be surprised to explore a lush, beautiful land seeded with colorful mushroom forests, interesting swamps, and magnificent architecture — a far cry from the arid wasteland in the older game.

Ruling over Morrowind is a Tribunal made up from three living gods. Vivec, the warrior-poet god, has a mysterious illness that is slowly draining his power. Without it, he will no longer be able to protect his people from the perils of the volcano Red Mountain, among other potential threats. The player’s goal is to help Vivec solve the mystery of the illness before it’s too late.

While adventuring in Vvardenfell, players will encounter the Morag Tong, a secret society of assassins for hire who primarily exist in Morrowind. Naryu, an agent of the guild, will guide the player, who has been tasked by the ruler of House Redoran to find his missing daughter.

New Warden Class

The Morrowind expansion also introduces a new class, the first since the initial launch of the game. Like the Templar, the Warden can fill any role while still providing support to allies. What is completely unique to the Warden, however, is the source of the class’ power. Drawing from nature itself, the Warden becomes a chaotic force in battle.

The class can summon animals capable of healing or use them to destroy enemies. The class can also sprout healing plants from the ground to provide support to allies or cloak them in a sheet of protective ice.

New PvP Battlegrounds

For people who enjoy player versus player combat, Morrowind has a new fast-paced PvP game mode called Battlegrounds. It includes three new game types: Deathmatch, Domination, and Capture the Relic. Deathmatch is a full-out, no-objective brawl. Domination is a “zone-capture-hold” experience, while Capture the Relic is Morrowind’s take on the PvP staple Capture the Flag.

The three teams of four players (4v4v4) are not bound to their Alliances as teams were in Cyrodiil, but instead fight for the Pit Daemons, Fire Drakes, or the Storm Lords. This mode should be great for quick game sessions, as matches are designed to be completed in 15 minutes or less.

New 12-Player Trial

The Halls of Fabrication is a Trial unlike any fans have seen before. This new 12-player dungeon dives deep into Clockwork City. One of the Tribunal gods, Sotha Sil, has been conducting secret experiments, and it’s up to the players to discover what he’s been up to. Aiding them is a familiar character from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind: the Telvanni sorcerer Divayth Fyr. Watch him closely for clues on how to combat the unique and highly challenging environmental mechanics this Trial has to offer.

In addition to furnishings and other loot in the dungeon, there are four new armor sets to collect. Challenging achievements grant unique dyes as well as unique titles, including a new one for a successful zero-death run.

Other Additions

Beyond these more prominent changes, The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind expansion also brings in a brand-new tutorial story available to every player, updates to the Champion System, a new Inverse Kinematic System, more Cyrodiil rewards, and much more.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind is now available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
