Better Call Saul is one of the best dramas the idiot box has ever produced. It’s as great as – and in some ways, even better than – its predecessor, Breaking Bad. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Jimmy McGill and now we’ve got a trailer to parse through. Check it out!
Gus and Saul Are Back
There is quite a lot going on in this sneak peek, but two things stand out. The obvious one? Gus is back! He was teased at the end of season two thanks to a mysterious note left on Mike‘s windshield. Fans were fairly certain that Gus was the one telling Mike to spare Hector Salamanca for the time being. If this doesn’t prove that, I don’t know what does. And seeing him back at Los Pollos Hermanos? Joy.
The other is a shot of Jimmy in an orange jumpsuit. Looks like he’s either finally crossed paths with the law or we’re getting another flashback to his Slippin’ Jimmy days. My bet is on the former. Chuck is sitting on that confession tape and it’s going to come back to haunt Jimmy in a big way. We do know that we’ll finally start to see Saul Goodman appear in this season, so it’s likely that Jimmy’s criminal nature is going to blossom in season three.
My big question: what about Gene? Jimmy’s post-Breaking Bad persona is a melancholy delight and it’d be a shame not to see him again. Creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould have teased an entire episode focusing on Gene and that would be a real treat. Bob Odenkirk’s multifaceted performance on this show is a landmark, and he should be given every opportunity there is to stretch his acting abilities.
Better Call Saul returns on April 10. So close but it feels so far away.
