Sonequa Martin Green

Star Trek: Discovery – September 24 (8:30/7:30c, CBS)

Sonequa Martin-Green spent five seasons battling zombies on The Walking Dead. As Sasha Williams, she spent years as a firefighter before joining up with Rick’s Dead crew. On this fall TV season, she’ll be exploring the galaxy as Lt. Commander Michael Burnham on Star Trek: Discovery . Now she’ll be commanding a starship, alongside another familiar face: Harry Potter’s Jason Isaacs. Together the pair will command the starship Discovery, with Isaacs as Captain and Martin-Green as First Officer. While there may not be any Walkers in space, Martin-Green is sure to run into a variety of alien life that may or may not be friendly. Star Trek: Discovery premieres first on CBS, then on CBS AllAccess.

Freddie Highmore

The Good Doctor – September 25 (10/9c, ABC) New

Freddie Highmore may have spent the last few years living in the nightmarish world of Bates Motel, but now he is healing people on The Good Doctor. In this new medical series from ABC, Highmore plays young medical student turned surgeon, Dr. Shaun Murphy. He has a genius level intellect but is considered to be high-functioning Austistic. The series also stars Richard Schiff, who previously played White House Communications Director Toby Ziegler on The West WingSchiff’s character Dr. Glassman really champions for Highmore’s Murphy to join the staff of the hospital, despite objections from the medical board. The Good Doctor premieres this month.

Lea Michele

The Mayor – October 3 (9:30/8:30c, ABC) New

Lea Michele is trading in her a cappella vocals for hip hop and politics in ABC’s new series The Mayor. Previously known for her tenure on Glee as Rachel Berry and Scream Queens as Hester Ulrich, Michele will be playing Chief of Staff Valentina Barella. After a losing campaign, Barella joins the cabinet of the newly elected Mayor, local hip hop artist Courtney Rose (Brandon Micheal Hall). She’ll help Rose alongside his mother, familiar face Yvette Nicole Brown. Brown played Shirley Bennett on Community for six seasons. The Mayor premieres on ABC in October.

Tracy Morgan

The Last O.G. – October 24 (10/9c, TBS) New

Welcome back Tracy! Three years after a tragic accident badly injured him and took the life of his friend James McNair, Tracy Morgan is back. Starring as Tray, Morgan plays a man who, after being imprisoned for 15 years, returns to an unrecognizable Brooklyn, New York. The short teaser featured shots of coffee aficionados, hipsters, and gardening white millennials, a snap shot of who has moved into Brooklyn in the last decade. Morgan’s character will provide a running commentary on the borough’s transformation, as well as deal with his nearly grownup children and ex-wife’s new husband. The Last O.G. also stars familiar face Cedric the Entertainer, who plays the manager of Trey’s halfway house. The Last O.G. hits TBS this October.

Shemar Moore

S.W.A.T. – November 2 (10/9c, CBS) New

Shemar Moore played Derek Morgan on Criminal Minds for almost 12 years. Now he’s playing law enforcement officer Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson on CBS’ newest series S.W.A.T. The series is based on the 1975 series of the same name and will showcase the tense relationship between impoverished communities and the police force in Los Angeles. Moore’s character, nicknamed Hondo, is promoted to head of the S.W.A.T. task force, when his commanding officer accidentally shoots an innocent bystander. Hondo grew up in the communities he’s protecting, so his job, and this show, will take a very personal look at police escalation and racial tenion. S.W.A.T. premieres on CBS in November.
