Three films in and you’d expect the cast of the Maze Runner films to be pretty hot at navigating their way through mazes. Even if the actual maze only appeared in the first film, in the succeeding entries they’ve found themselves in situations where they’ve had to fight their way out of maze-like scenarios.
In The Scorch Trials, they had to tackle an obstacle-dotted landscape. The labyrinthine corridors of the WCKD building in The Death Cure, meanwhile, provide the most recent example. If you’ve seen the previously released clip featuring said scene, you’ll know that the moment when Thomas and Newt, along with Minho, leap out of the window is pretty hairy. But it definitely underlines their characters’ initiative and problem-solving skills.
The question is, though, can they transfer those skills to a game of Screwball Scramble? If you don’t know what Screwball Scramble is, it’s a maze game in which players have to navigate a ball bearing through and across various obstacles to the end of the course. All within a time limit. We challenged stars Dylan O’Brien, who plays Thomas in the film, and Newt actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster to a game — with hilarious results. See how they got on in the video above.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure hits screens in both the UK and US on January 26, 2018. And in case you need it, here’s the official synopsis:
Thomas leads some escaped Gladers on their final and most dangerous mission yet. To save their friends, they must break into the legendary Last City, a WCKD-controlled labyrinth that may turn out to be the deadliest maze of all. Anyone who makes it out alive will get answers to the questions that the Gladers have been asking since they arrived in the maze.
