'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' Cast and Director Answer Fan Questions

There’s a brand new Hellboy movie heading to theaters April 12. It’s a fresh take on the mythology originally created by Mike Mignola for Dark Horse Comics back in 1993. David Harbour (yes, Chief Hopper from Stranger Things!) is playing Hellboy in the new movie directed by Neill Marshall, best known for the cult horror hit The Descent and the director of some of the best episodes of Game of Thrones and Westworld. The film is poised to carve its own place in the Hellboy canon by adapting some of the fan favorite moments from the comics. But don’t take our word for it; Let’s take a closer look...



THE WILD HUNT

The movie’s adapting elements are drawn from stories in Hellboy’s impressive back catalog: Darkness Calls, The Wild Hunt and The Storm and The Fury. And these are the perfect stories to show audiences a new version of a character they already know and love. Interestingly, it’ll also dive into Hellboy’s origins that first appeared in the Seed of Destruction storyline. In the first issue, Hellboy was brought into our world in a blazing fire by a handful of Nazi cultists and a Russian psychic, Rasputin, as they tried to bring about the apocalypse. That’s one hell of a birthday party…

But the new film follows Hellboy’s adventures in England as he tries to stop Nimue the Blood Queen from raising a demonic army and destroying the world…Just standard superhero duties really. Nimue is played by none other than Milla Jovovich and we can’t wait to see her face off against David Harbour’s Big Red.

In The Wild Hunt comics arc, Hellboy joins a group of modern knights on horseback to hunt a gang of literal giants. It’s during his fight with the giants that Hellboy discovers some startling revelations about his own lineage that could prove to be one of his greatest weapons in beating the Blood Queen…



ONE HELL OF AN ARSENAL

Following his battle with the gang of giants, Hellboy regroups with Alice Monaghan. Played by Sasha Lane, Alice might have her own emerging set of mystical abilities that could be useful in fighting Nimue.

Considering Hellboy is always up against mythical monsters and legendary legions of demons, he needs plenty of weapons to give him the upper hand. He does have the Right Hand of Doom after all! But he may need the extra firepower, and we don’t just mean his insanely huge pistol. Luckily for Hellboy, The Wild Hunt introduces some of the Excalibur mythology - and if he can wield the legendary sword against the Blood Queen, he could have a chance at saving the world.



WHAT OTHER COMIC MOMENTS CAN WE EXPECT FROM THE MOVIE?

By cleverly weaving in elements from The Wild Hunt as well as The Storm and The Fury, fans new and old are treated to a fresh story with a lot of exciting new moments that haven't been seen before. Expect to see more of the Excalibur mythology as Hellboy and Alice travel through England to raise some hell.

The film is also picking up some characters that aren’t as prevalent in The Wild Hunt though, like Ben Daimio, played by Daniel Dae-Kim. There’s even a Nazi-hunting pulp-comic book hero in Hellboy’s life called Lobster Johnson, and he’ll be played by Thomas Haden Church. This movie really does have everything. So get ready to see one hell of a superhero!

Hellboy is in theaters everywhere and in IMAX, April 12th.

As The Walking Dead ramps up the tension in the final episodes of Season 7, were bracing ourselves for major deaths. We hate to see our favourite characters leave the show  especially if they meet a grisly end. But with anyone liable to cark it at any time, its good to be prepared. And that includes the cast, who seem more embracing of their character dying than the rest of us. We asked the cast of The Walking Dead how theyd like to see their character die in the show. Norman Reedus, Josh McDermitt, Tom Payne, Austin Amelio, Seth Gilliam, Alanna Masterson and Ross Marquand  who play Daryl, Eugene, Jesus, Dwight, Father Gabriel, Tara and Aaron respectively  shared their thoughts on how theyd like to see their character bow out. I would like to just walk away and go up a mountain, and then a little dog jumps out of the woods and follows me up and over the mountain. And theres a sunset, and people just go: Whatever happened to that guy? Like Outlaw Josey Wales, like a Clint Eastwood movie, says Norman Reedus. As for Josh McDermitt, he wants Eugene to go out a hero. Weve certainly seen some moments that Eugene has had in the past where hes stepped up to help others, says McDermitt. I think Rosita having the bullets and trying to shoot Negan, that certainly was a situation that went haywire. But Eugene did a heroic thing, stepping up and saying: Im the one who made the bullet. He could have died right there in that moment and he would have gone out as a hero. He adds, But honestly, with a character like Eugene, we dont know how he would die. He might just go out by choking on a sandwich. Austin Amelio, meanwhile, aspires to the death of one of the shows most popular characters: Michael Cudlitz had a pretty epic death. He had his last piece before he died. I dont know what that would entail but something along the lines of that would be nice. And Ross Marquand? Alien zombies. Venom is coming. And this take on the Marvel antihero isn’t your typical big-screen comic book story. This is a darker character with a less-than-perfect moral compass. How will Venom translate to the big screen, and what’s the movie about exactly? You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers. Here are five big questions about Venom:

What is Venom?
The short answer is that Venom is an alien symbiote with superpowers, and he fuses with Eddie Brock. The longer, weirder answer is that symbiotes (Venom’s species) are fluid, shapeshifting, god-like creatures that seek to bond with other living beings They can ooze through the pores of the host’s skin, or be absorbed by the body. The fun stuff is that they can turn into tendrils, sheets, and force tentacles out of their bodies, and even turn themselves into weapons.

Who is playing Venom?
Tom Hardy is playing both Venom and Eddie Brock, the alien symbiote’s human host. That makes sense, since Venom becomes a part of Brock, and the two merge together into one being. Hardy recorded his Venom lines each morning, would go into hair and makeup for Brock, and then while filming, the production sound mixer and playback editor would play Hardy’s Venom lines from earlier so he could act against himself. Through the aid of sound design, Venom’s voice will have a more monstrous and otherworldly tone to distinguish it from Brock’s normal, human voice.

Who is Venom’s nemesis?
Dr. Carlton Drake, played by Riz Ahmed, heads the Life Foundation and is Brock/ Venom’s main nemesis. He’s the one searching for symbiotes and deciding to illegally test them on humans. A symbiote he captured ends up fusing with Dr. Drake and together they become Riot.

So is Venom good or bad?
He’s both. By itself, the Venom symbiote would likely run amok, eating heads and devouring people’s organs simply because he’s hungry. But Brock is able to keep the symbiote in check, albeit tenuously. It’s a very push-and-pull relationship between the two. Brock tries to curb his passenger’s murderous impulses, but sometimes even Brock isn’t strong enough to stop Venom from eating a few people. The compromise they reach is that Venom can be as rough on people as it wants, as long as Eddie agrees it’s “bad guys” they’re doing it to. So while the character is acting on the side of good, it’s still a terrifying monster with highly questionable, bloody methods.

Is Venom a standalone movie?
Venom isn’t directly related to any other superhero movie out there. And while Venom is the story of one of Marvel’s most badass characters, it’s not part of any other Marvel movie universe we’ve seen. Down the road, we could see more movies in this same continuity, but for now, Venom stands alone.
