A new trailer for 'War of the Planet of the Apes' lets us get a better understanding of the character of Nova. Nova is an important character to the Planet of the Apes mythology. Her inclusion could mean that this new series is starting to get very close to resembling the original films.War of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on July 14.

New 'War for the Planet of the Apes' Trailer Lets Us Meet Nova

The Disaster Artist is a complicated film to describe. A movie about the making of the movie, it's a behind-the-scenes look at "so-bad-it's-good" cult classic The Room.Written, produced and directed by the enigmatic Tommy Wiseau -- who also stars -- The Room is a drama about the tragic love triangle that develops between a banker (played by Wiseau), his fianc, and his best friend. The film is not good, with the acting, script and direction laughably bad.In spite of those shortcomings, The Room's popularity has grown exponentially since first hitting screens in 2005, with packed cinemas across the globe now celebrating its awfulness, often with Tommy in attendance.James Franco became a fan, and The Disaster Artist is his love letter to the making of the movie. Greg Sestero played the aforementioned best friend in The Room, and Fanco's film is based on his account of the making of the movie, entitled The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, The Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made.Franco himself plays Tommy, while his brother Dave Franco plays Greg. And the rest of the cast is seriously impressive, featuring Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Josh Hutcherson, Sharon Stone, Bryan Cranston, Kristen Bell, Adam Scott, Alison Brie, Zach Braff, J.J. Abrams, Judd Apatow and Melanie Griffith.The film received rave reviews at SXSW and the Toronto Film Festival, while it has also inexplicably becoming part of the Oscar conversation.The Disaster Artist hits U.S. screens on December 1.

Planet of the Apes is a franchise that has always had a surprising level of maturity and complexity to it, and that has been exceptionally displayed with the recent reboot films. Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a great introduction to Caesar, the first ape to gain intelligence and rebel against humanity. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes opened the world up and showed us the beginnings of ape civilization and the downfall of humanity. Now, War for the Planet of the Apes concludes one part of the saga as Caesar must battle against a zealous Colonel and find a new home for his family. War for the Planet of the Apes is jaw-dropping. Its the first in the new series to be completely from the apes perspective and its about time. The only human characters - minus the mute child Nova who is basically one of the apes - are villains that offer the biggest and most personal threat to Caesar and his friends weve seen yet. It should be noted that War for the Planet of the Apes is dark. Not in a take me seriously way like other genre blockbusters, but in an emotional and textual way. This is a movie that gets to a core belief that stems all the way back to the original film: mankind is doomed and its their own damn fault. Its shocking to see a tentpole film deal with such a nihilistic concept, but its explored in such a fascinating way that it never feels maudlin or manipulative. So much of that is due to how compelling Caesar and the apes are. Their story is the one of hope and triumph. Director Matt Reeves and co-writer Mark Bomback blatantly draw from the biblical story of Moses and apply this classic character arc to Caesar in extraordinarily moving sequences. Andy Serkis has never been better in these films, and his performance (along with the other motion capture actors) nevers gets lost in the unbelievably real effects that bring the apes to life. And you will fall in love with Steve Zahns Bad Ape, the funniest and most touching character the series has ever produced. This is also a phenomenal blockbuster. The action is tense and exhilarating, but never showy or shallow. Every big moment is weighted by character motivations and personal conflict. Nothing feels beholden to some unseen plot thats moving things along simply to move things along. Its a true testament to the value of characters over story. War for the Planet of the Apes gets a 5 out of 5. Forget Star Wars and superheroes, this is the platinum standard for blockbuster filmmaking. Its the best entry in the rebooted series and might be the best film in the entire saga. Its a genuinely risky and powerfully adult tale told with the biggest canvas possible. If this is where this new series ends, its an incredible sendoff as well as the best summer tentpole film of 2017.

Global meltdown movie Geostorm has a new trailer  and it gives us a great idea of what we can expect. A disaster movie throwback from the 1990s, the footage shows the world under threat from a spectacular series of natural disasters.In this story, theyve learned how to control the worlds weather using a system of satellites, which ensures no more catastrophic climate-related events. Or so they think. When the system goes wrong, all of the bad weather is seemingly unleashed at once  across the globe.Inconceivably low temperatures in Afghanistan leave people instantly frozen, tsunamis batter cities and coastlines, molten magma forces its way through roads, huge hailstones attack traffic-lined streets, plus fork lightning and twisters hit. Its pandemonium.But its not a malfunction  this is by design. Some unnamed, presumably unhinged culprit has designs on destroying the planet, and its up to Gerard Butler in typically heroic form as Jake Lawson, Climate Expert for the International Space Station, to save the day. And to save face  he's insulted for looking old. Even in the event of the apocalypse, there's still space for ageism. We're not doubting his capacity for proving to everyone he's still got it, though.Andy Garcia also stars as the US President. The rest of the cast is rounded out by Abbie Cornish, Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess, Robert Sheehan, Amr Waked, Zazie Beetz and Mare Winningham.Geostorm marks actor-producer Dean Devlins feature directorial debut alongside seasoned helmer Danny Cannon.Geostorm is released October 20, 2017.
