Destiny 2: Forsaken is the biggest content update yet to Destiny 2 and kicks off Year 2 of developer Bungie's content roadmap. It's filled with new gear, new enemies, new game modes, and new destinations. 

It also comes paired with a bevy of quality-of-life updates for all Destiny 2 owners, highly anticipated by fans, like weapon randomization and weapon slot changes. These improvements combine to make the launch of Destiny 2: Forsaken on September 4 an opportune time to jump back into the game or pick it up for the very first time.

Let's take a closer look at some of these new additions to Destiny with Destiny 2: Forsaken.


Revenge – Hunt down the Barons

Destiny 2: Forsaken's new campaign introduces the Barons, a group of eight brutally bad Fallen who have been broken out of the Prison of Elders by Uldren Sov, whom players met in the first Destiny. In the reveal trailer, they're shown seemingly killing fan-favorite character Cayde-6, and Forsaken's campaign will be one of revenge as players hunt down those eight Barons in whatever order they wish. Each Baron has unique characteristics, which means fighting each one will be a completely different experience. The Trickster uses traps, stealth, and long-range weapons, for example, while players will have to battle the Rider while flying across the map in a Pike. Players will then ultimately have to face Uldren.

The Dreaming City

After tackling Uldren a whole new mystery unveils in the The Dreaming City, a new location for Destiny 2: Forsaken, entirely devoted to End Game activities. Bungie describes it as their largest endgame experience yet. What makes the Dreaming City unique is that not only does it contain the first new raid since Destiny 2 came out last year, but it also houses high-level patrols, public events, and other mysterious puzzles to solve. That means that solo players and smaller fireteams will be able to experience some of the wonder and mystery of the Dreaming City without having to schedule a six-person raid run. 

Gambit Mode

Destiny players have never been lacking for game modes, with campaign missions, patrols, strikes, raids, the competitive Crucible, and more all available to dip into. But the game has always separated the PVP activities in the Crucible from the cooperative gameplay featured everywhere else. That changes with Gambit, a brand-new mode for the series that mashes together PVE and PVP mechanics. In Gambit, two teams of four will fight off waves of enemies in separate locations but will have the opportunity to send enemies and even players over to the other side. The first team to take down the final boss wins the match and the best loot. We can easily see this unique blend of cooperative and competitive gameplay dominating players' time at launch.


New Exotics and Supers

Bungie's weapon design team is seeking to raise the bar on the Destiny series' coveted exotic weapons and gear by significantly altering a Guardian's playstyle while equipped. Take the Antaeus Wards, a pair of Titan boots that deflect projectiles when the player is sliding. Then there's the Wish-Ender, an exotic bow -- a new weapon type in Forsaken -- that allows its wielder to see through walls and over-penetrate targets.

Each Guardian will also be getting new supers within the individual subclasses. That means that Hunters can now be able to do things like deflect rockets with their Arc Staff, Warlocks can teleport around the map and erupt in Void energy, and Titans can create Banner shields in front of them that allies can shoot though.

These are just a few of the additions and improvements coming to Destiny 2: Forsaken. Check out all of the new updates for yourself when Destiny 2: Forsaken launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 4.

Once you master the new mechanics, however, Destiny 2 is a sublime experience.So here are five essential tips to get started in Destiny 2.Raise Your Gears Power Level at Every OpportunityThe quest to reach level 20 is important for unlocking your Guardians subclass abilities and equipping better gear, but the true strength of your character is determined by their Power Level. Power is calculated as the average power of all of your weapons and gear. The game will slowly trickle more powerful items your way as you continue to equip gear. Its good advice to not become attached to any weapons prior to hitting the level cap and to change into more powerful gear at every opportunity - even if the gear is a lower rarity than what you currently have equipped.Unlock All Subclasses ASAPIn Destiny 2 the evil Ghaul has stolen the light and with it all your sweet super powers. In order to regain your lost powers, youll need to find unique class items and bring to the shard of the Traveler. Complete the subclass quests as soon as you receive the relics that trigger them, as you can only hold one relic in your inventory at a time. Relics for Subclass quests are commonly found in treasure chests and caches as you raise your level.Jump to New Planets Immediately After Unlocking ThemAfter the fall of the Last City, you must journey across the solar system to reunite with the Vanguard leaders Cayde-6, Ikora Rey, and Commander Zavala. Hit new planets and complete the first story mission on each as soon as you unlock them. The ability to complete Challenges, perform Patrols, and engage in Strike Missions will be unlocked once all of the Vanguard Leaders are brought back to the EDZ. These activities will help you level up faster and gain better gear, so dont get too distracted with Adventures and Lost Sectors too early!Raise Faction Rep for RewardsInstead of the Tower-specific factions from the first game, Destiny 2 has added new factions that are tied to the Vendor/Quest NPCs in each planet area: Devrim Kay on Earth, Sloane on Titan, Failsafe on Nessus, and Asher Mir on Io. There are several quick ways to raise rep, like completing Adventures, Patrols, and Public Events. You can also earn unique tokens for each planet that can be exchanged for rep. Each time you level up their rep, youll be able to claim a Bright Engram. However, you need to be level 20 before you can claim the legendary rewards. You can see the complete list of items that can be obtained through vendors by selecting the option to view rewards after you leveled up your reputation.Take part in Public EventsPublic Events have been overhauled in Destiny 2. Not only do their locations appear on your map in the Directory, but the icons also include countdowns to when the event begins. Public Events are a great way to gain powerful rewards and quickly raise faction rep. Its important to note that each Public Event has its own Heroic Modifier that can be triggered by performing specific actions. Heroic Public Events grant better rewards but are much more challenging than their normal counterparts.
