It’s no small feat for an indie game to stand out at an event as enormous as E3 — but at this year’s event, a new trailer for Dual Universe swept many attendees off their feet. Once you’ve seen the footage for yourself, don’t be surprised if this promising MMORPG snatches a spot on your must-play list.

At this point, simply playing alongside scores of real players in an MMORPG isn’t enough to impress most players. Dual Universe goes one step further, offering up a voxel-based cosmos where players can travel from one planet to the next, making permanent modifications to their surroundings that will persist throughout the shared game-world.

This means that if you travel to a distant planet and bulldoze a mountain, your friends will be able to travel to that sector and see your destructive power. Similarly, if you choose to construct a near-orbit space station, that structure will be a permanent landmark in the game world — so long as it doesn’t come under attack from your enemies.

Of course, we’ve all seen creative gameplay like this in titles like Minecraft. However, Dual Universe doesn’t allow its gameplay to restrict its visuals; a sophisticated dual contouring system provides stellar visuals with the practicality of a block-based landscape. Graphics and gameplay work together in perfect synchronization.

There’s no end to the adventures you and your friends can have in Dual Universe — the only limits are your creative ingenuity and your thirst for adventure. Here’s that E3 trailer that’s been making waves over the past couple of weeks:

Dual Universe is currently in the pre-alpha stage of development, with a prototype expected to be complete in early 2017. For more information on the game, head to its official website — or check out the knowledge that’s already been amassed on the Official Dual Universe Wiki.
