A missing partner is the impetus for many classic crime thrillers — but you’ve never seen a mystery quite like Tokyo Dark. Detective Itō will have to endure a nightmare to save her friend as she scours the city streets of Tokyo. Gamepedia and the game’s developer Cherry Mochi are pleased to announce the Official Tokyo Dark Wiki.

Point-and-click games have undergone something of a renaissance in recent years, and now we’re seeing a surge of highly original takes on the genre. Tokyo Dark blends point-and-click mechanics with the trappings of a visual novel, and the result is a gripping mystery with some twisted horror elements.

Detective Itō thinks looking for her partner will be a fairly straightforward case, but she’s soon proven quite wrong — and Tokyo Dark lives up to its name. A Tokyo urban legend states that there’s a red door situated far below the city’s sewer system, and those who step through it are said to never come back. Unfortunately, that could be the place that Detective Itō’s partner has ended up in.

Players are put in full control of the way that the narrative unfolds, with their decisions putting them on a path to one of eleven different endings.

However, this isn’t just a game about choosing one path through the storyline rather than another. As Detective Itō tests her intellect searching for her partner, players have to grapple with fiendish puzzles. To help solve the mystery as effectively and efficiently as possible, there’s a stat management system to customize your character’s strengths and weakness as you journey through the game.

Following its successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, Tokyo Dark scored an impressive 94% rating from members of the Square Enix Collective — and later this year, it’s set to release for Windows PC and Mac. There’s more information about the game on its official website, and plenty more case notes on the Official Tokyo Dark Wiki.
