There was only one appropriate way for Team17 to celebrate the 21st birthday of the Worms franchise — create the most expansive entry in the long-running series to date. Worms WMD features all manner of arms and armaments for you to destroy the opposing limbless legion with, as well as some updates to the formula to freshen up the battlefield. Everyone should know the Worms franchise at this point, but here’s a quick primer for any latecomers — two sets of creepy crawlies do battle with an array of unique (and often unbelievable) weapons. It’s an undisputed multiplayer classic, and Worms WMD is perfect for newcomers and veterans alike.
The game’s beautiful hand-drawn visuals call to mind classic instalments like Worms Armageddon, but WMD offers plenty of new features and functionality to expand the experience. Its brand new weapons fit in perfectly with the likes of the Super Sheep and the Holy Hand Grenade, and the addition of vehicles is guaranteed to change the flow of warfare.
For many players, multiplayer will be the biggest selling point, and they’ll be well-served by WMD: six players can duke it out online with eight Worms each. However, there’s also a full campaign mode, as well as some tricky challenges to test expert players.
