If you logged onto Twitch at all last week and wondered why a really obscure, old game had over 100,000 viewers, wonder no more. Awesome Games Done Quick was happening, a week-long, 24-hour live streaming event where the best video game speedrunners demonstrated their skills for charity, with every dollar donated going to the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
With AGDQ, you can expect to see runs where players’ mind-blowing tricks and skills make your struggle with that particular game look like child’s play. But some of the absolute best and most exciting events are the races.
This Shovel Knight race above between Smaugy and Munchakoopas was no exception. With the two runners masterfully executing skips, damage boosts, and quick kills, this race was so tight you don’t even notice the 46 minute run time.
Excellent commentary ensures that you understand exactly what’s going on, but pay close attention anyway; some of what you see on screen defies even expert explanation. We won’t spoil who wins, but with only six seconds separating first and second place, it was a nailbiter to the finish line.
