Vidar is a town with a dark secret and a bleak outlook. Every night, one of its citizens dies mysteriously — and with only 24 residents left above ground, time is short before its population dwindles to zero. It’s up to you to save the town, but you’ll need to act fast to have any measure of success.
In Vidar, your greatest challenge is the unpredictability of the world around you. Every night, another resident dies, and that can have a huge impact on your strategy going forward. A character that’s previously been handing out quests might lose their life, and that will have huge repercussions on the way subsequent events play out.
These deaths don’t follow any kind of pattern; they’re completely random. That means that every time you start the game afresh, you’ll to see a different story unfold.
This unpredictability carries over to the puzzle dungeon you’ll need to beat to save the town from its unwelcome fate. The challenges you’ll face in this underground cavern are selected from a bank of hundreds, each more devious than the last, so you’ll have plenty of new problems to solve on every playthrough.
What lurks at the bottom of this puzzle dungeon? Legend states that there’s a beast down there. As you wander the ruins of Old Vidar, remember that danger lurks around every corner. Your mission may be to save the townspeople up on the surface, but it’ll be impossible to do so if you end up dead yourself.

Vidar is currently in development for the PC, but today marks its Early Access release on Steam. New quests, puzzles, events, and more set to be released on a regular basis until the game is ready, but from here on out you can get a head start on solving the town’s mystery and securing its future.
