There’s no dream-obsessed DiCaprio here—We Need to Go Deeper is a procedurally-generated, Jules Verne-inspired undersea adventure on Steam that sees you and your friends taking a deep dive into the mysteries that lie leagues under the sea. You’ll be working together to pilot a submarine and keep your vessel intact as you explore the endless mysteries of the Living Infinite.

It’s a co-op only game that has 2-4 players—connected via local network or online—working in unison to man the various systems of an undersea vessel. Think of it like FTL, but with players taking on the roles of individual crew members. Your engine guy will have to distribute power to various subsystems, determining how fast the sub can go and how many torpedoes you can fire. Meanwhile, your pilot will have to steer the sub, all while your weapons folks make sure any incoming threats are quickly torpedoed.

You’ll dive into a series of randomly-generated biomes, starting in the shallows of the Atlantic Waters and eventually going deep into the darker, more dangerous depths of the vast undersea trench. You’ll do battle against massive sea creatures, from sharks and swordfish to far more exotic monsters, discovering new tools along the way to help keep your ship shipshape.

The roguelike adventure is in Early Access now, and a bunch of additional features are planned for the future. The list of biomes will be expanded from six to ten, each of which will be punctuated by a climactic boss battle. There’s also the promise of more varied submarines suited for different group sizes, more items for strategic variety, and a series of underwater civilizations that may help or hinder you on your undersea journey.

Along the way, the three-man development team at Deli Interactive promises regular involvement with the community, including a Player of the Month to be highlighted on the title screen, active participation in the Steam forums, and a bi-monthly hang out stream where players can enjoy some social time with the makers of the game.

And to top it all off, the game’s got a great 18th-century look, filled with all sorts of cartoonishly era-appropriate ways to customize your undersea explorers—non-gendered facial hair included.

We Need to Go Deeper is available now on Steam in Early Access, and it’s available at a discounted $7.99 until February 15th. Check out the official website for even more details, and once you dive in, don’t miss the Official Wiki for all the info you need to survive when you’re 20,000 leagues deep.
